  • According to advanced nanotechnology in the field of biomedical engineering, many studies of the interaction between topography of surfaces and cellular responses have been focused on nanostructure. In order to investigate this interaction, it is essential to make well-controlled nanostructures. Electron beam lithography (EBL) have been considered the most typical processes to fabricate and control nano-scale patterns. In this work, $TiO_2$ nanowire array was fabricated with hybrid process (top-down and bottom-up processes). Nanodot arrays were patterned on the substrate by EBL process (top-down). In order to control the spacing between nanodots, we optimized the EBL process using Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) as an electron beam resist. Metal lift-off was used to transfer the spacing-controlled nanodots as a seed pattern of $TiO_2$ nanowire array. Au or Sn nanodots which play an important role for catalyst using Vapor-Liquid-Solid (VLS) method were patterned on the substrate through the lift-off process. Then, the sample was placed in the tube furnace and heated at the synthesis temperature. After heat treatment, $TiO_2$ nanowire array was fabricated from the nanodots through VLS method (bottom-up). These results of spacing-controlled nanowire arrays will be used to study the interaction between nanostructures and cellular responses in our next steps.

  • We report a one-step fabrication method of Poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene) (PFO) nanowire array with pronounced ${\beta}$-Phase. We use liquid-bridge-mediated nanotransfer molding (LB-nTM) which is a new direct nano-patterning method based on the direct transfer of various materials from a mold to a substrate via liquid layer. The formation of the ${\beta}$-phase morphology in the resulting PFO nanowire array was evidenced by the presence of an absorption peak at 435nm. With the collection polarizer oriented parallel to the wire long axis, the PL emission was most intense and an emission dichroic ratio, DRE, of 3.7 was determined. The nanowire array have been investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Also, we simply fabricated structure of device of ITO/PFO nanowire arrays/Al and the electroluminescence spectra were recorded at various applied voltage.

  • Pt-Co alloy nanowire array was directly synthesized by electrochemical deposition with polycarbonate template at -1.0V and subsequent chemical etching of the template. The use of Pt-Co alloy nanowire array-modified electrode (Pt-Co NAE) for the determination of morphine (MO) is described. The morphology of the Pt-Co alloy nanowire array has been investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy disperse X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) analysis), respectively. The resulting Pt-Co NAE offered a linear amperometric response for morphine ranging from $2.35\times10^{-5}$ to $2.39\times10^{-3}$ M with a detection limit of $7.83\times10^{-6}$ M at optimum conditions. This sensor displayed high sensitivity and long-term stability.

  • Novel fabrication method of nanobridge array of various materials was proposed using suspended silicon nanowire array as a sacrificial template structure. Nanobridges of various materials can be simply fabricated by direct deposition with thermal evaporation on the top of prefabricated suspended silicon nanobridge arrays, which are used as a sacrificial structure. Since silicon nanowire can be easily removed by selective dry etching, nanobridge arrays of an intended material are finally obtained. In this paper, metal nanobridges of Ti/Au, around 50-200 nm in thickness and width, 5-20 ${\mu}m$ in length were fabricated to prove the advantages of the proposed nanowire or nanobridge fabrication method. The nanobridges of Ti/Au after complete removal of sacrificial silicon nanowire template were well-established and bending of nanobridge caused by the tensile stress was observed after silicon removing. Up to 50 nm and 10 ${\mu}m$ of silicon nanowire in diameter and length respectively was also very useful for nanowire templates.

  • Si nanowires have exhibited unique optical characteristics, including nano-antenna effects due to the guided mode resonance, significant optical absorption enhancement in wide wavelength and incident angle range due to resonant optical modes, graded refractive index, and scattering. Since Si poor optical absorption coefficient due to indirect bandgap, all such properties have stimulated proposal of new optoelectronic devices whose performance can surpass that of conventional planar devices. We have carried out finite-difference time-domain simulation studies to design optimal Si nanowire array for solar cell applications. Optical reflectance, transmission, and absorption can be calculated for nanowire arrays with various diameter, length, and period. From the absorption, maximum achievable photocurrent can be estimated. In real devices, serious recombination loss occurring at the surface states is known to limit the photovoltaic performance of the nanowire-based solar cells. In order to address such issue, we will discuss how the geometric parameters of the array can influence the spatial distribution of the optical field (resulting optical generation rate) in the nanowires.

  • Nano-scale p-n junction can generate various nano-scale functional devices such as nanowire light emitting diode, nanowire solar cell, and nanowire sensor. The core shell type nanowire p-n junction has been considered for the high efficient devices in many previous reports. On the other hand, although device efficiency is relatively lower, the cross bar type p-n junction has simple topological structure, suggested by C.M. Lieber group, to integrate easily many p-n junction devices in one board. In this study, for the integration of the cross bar nanowire p-n junction device, a simple fabrication route, employed dielectrophoretic array and direct printing techniques, was demonstrated by the successful fabrication and programmable integration of the nanowire cross bar p-n junction solar cell. This direct printing process will give the single nanowire solar cell the opportunity of the integration on the circuit board with other nanowire functional devices.

  • A micro thermoelectric device was processed by electroplating the n-type Bi-Te nanowires and ptype Sb-Te nanowires into an alumina template with 200 nm pores. Power generation characteristics of the micro devices composed of the Bi-Te nanowires, the Sb-Te nanowires, and both the Bi-Te and the Sb-Te nanowires were analyzed with applying a temperature difference of $40^{\circ}C$ across the devices along the thickness direction. The n-type Bi-Te and the p-type Sb-Te nanowire devices exhibited thermoelectric power outputs of $3.8{\times}10^{-10}W$ and $4.8{\times}10^{-10}W$, respectively. The output power of the device composed of both the Bi-Te and the Sb-Te nanowires decreased to $1.4{\times}10^{-10}W$ due to a large electrical resistance of the Cu electrode connecting the Bi-Te nanowire array with the Sb-Te nanowire array.

  • Silicon nanowires were detached and obtained from silicon nanowire arrays on silicon substrate using a ultrasono-method. Silicon nanowire arrays on silicon substrate were prepared with an electroless metal assisted etching of p-type silicon. The etching solution was an aqueous HF solution containing silver nitrate. SEM observation shows that well-aligned nanowire arrays perpendicular to the surface of the silicon substrate were produced. After sonication of silicon nanowire array, an individual silicon nanowire was confirmed by FESEM. Optical characteristics of SiNWs were measured by FT-IR spectroscopy. The surface of SiNWs are terminated with hydrogen.

  • The miniband structure of a quantum dot lattice based on GaN/AlN nanowire arrays has been investigated using the finite element method and Floquet theorem. The quantum dot modes and the quantum wire modes in the nanowire arrays were graphically verified. The optimum geometries of GaN/AlN quantum wire arrays were investigated by using a correlation between the width of nanowires and the separation of the minibandgap which is to be larger than the thermal energy at room temperature.
