The amorphous $Fe_{73}Si_{16}B_7Nb_3Cu_1$(at%) alloy strip was pulverized using a jet mill and an attrition mill to get flake-shaped powder. The flake powder was mixed with dielectric $BaTiO_3$ powder and its dispersant to increase the permittivity. The powders covered with dielectric powders and its dispersant were mixed with a binder and a solvent and then tape-cast to form sheets. The absorbing properties of the sheets were measured to investigate the roles of the dielectric powder and its dispersant. The results showed that the addition of $BaTiO_3$ powders and its dispersant improved the absorbing properties of the sheets noticeably. The powder sheet mixed with 5 wt% of $BaTiO_3$ powder and 1 wt% of dispersant showed the best electromagnetic wave absorption rate because of the increase of the permittivity and the electrical resistance.
The oxidation of $Fe_{73}Si_{16}B_7Nb_3Cu_1$ nanocrystalline powder has been conducted to investigate its influence on the electromagnetic wave absorption characteristics of the soft magnetic material. Oxidation occurred primarily on the surface of nanocrystals. Oxidation reduced the real part of complex permeability due to the reduction of the relative volume of the powder, which otherwise contributes to the permeability. Oxidation reduced the absorption efficiency of the sheet at frequencies over 1GHz, indicating that the relative contribution of skin depth increments to the absorption was not significant. The pulverization and milling process lowered the optimum crystallization temperature of the material by $40{\sim}50^{\circ}C$ because of the internal energy accumulated during the fragmentation and powder thinning processes.

The nanocrystalline Fe$_{84}$Zr$_{7}$B$_{6}$Cu$_{1}$$Al_{2}$ alloy was annealed at 450 $^{\circ}C$ and 550 $^{\circ}C$ for l hour to achieve the ultra-soft magnetic properties such as large magnetoimpedence ratio(MIR), the incremental permeability ratio(PR), nearly zero coercivity, zero magnetostriction, etc. The PR and MIR of the sample were measured from 100 kHz to 10 MHz at a cryogenic chamber where the temperature can be varie from 10 K to 300 K. The increment of MIR value is proportional to increasing temperature. The maximum PR values measured at high frequency above 1 MHz remain almost same despite of the temperature variation from 10 K to 300 K except the sharpness in PR curves. However, the maximum PR values measured below 1 MHz show drastic increment at above 150K due to thermal activation of magnetic domains.s.s.
Magnetic properties of FeTaN and FeTaC films deposited by DC magnetron reactive sputter were investigated, and correlated with their microstructures. The optimum magnetic properties of Hc : 0.25 Oe, Bs : 14.5 kG, and ${\mu}'$ : 4000 (5MHz) are observed in the $Fe_{78.8}Ta_{8.5}N_{12.7}$ film, and Hc : 0.25 Oe, Bs : 14.5 kG, and ${\mu}'$ : 2700 (5MHz) in the $Fe_{75.6}Ta_{8.1}C_{16.3}$ film. In both FeTaN and FeTaC films with minimum grain size show the best soft magnetic properties. Thermal stability of the soft magnetic properties of FeTaN is found to be higher than FeTaC for similar compositons. TaN and TaC particles form to retard the growth of $\alpha$-Fe grains. TaN particles in FeTaN show higher efficiency in retarding the grain growth during heat treatments resulting the higher thermal stability, compared to TaC particles in FeTaC films.

In this paper, the influences of microstructural and surface morphological developments on the soft magnetic properties and giant magneto-impedance (GMI) effect of the $Fe_{73.5-x}Cr_{x}Si_{13.5}B_{9}Nb_{3}Au_1$ (x = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) alloys have been presented. It was found that the Cr addition slightly decreased the mean grain size of $\alpha-Fe(Si)$ grains. AFM results indicate a large variation of surface morphology of density and size of protrusions along the ribbon plane due to microstructural changes caused by thermal annealing with increasing Cr content. Ultrasoft magnetic properties of the nanocrystallized samples were noticeably enhanced by properly heat treatments at $T_a=540^{\circ}C$ such as an increase of the magnetic permeability and the decrease of coercivity, which is likely due to the formation of nanoscale $\alpha-Fe(Si)$ phase which reduced the magnetoelastic anisotropy of samples. Accordingly, the GMI effect was observed in the annealed samples. The correlation between the microstructure, surface morphology, and soft magnetic properties were explained by nucleation and growth model.
The electromagnetic wave absorption sheets were fabricated by mixing of $Fe_{73}Si_{16}B_7Nb_3Cu_1$ nanocrystalline soft magnetic powder, charcoal powder and polymer based binder. The complex permittivity, complex permeability, and scattering parameter have been measured using a network analyzer in the frequency range of 10 MHz$\sim$10 GHz. The results showed that complex permittivity of sheets was largely dependent on the frequency and the amount of charcoal powder : The permittivity was improved up to 100 MHz, however the value was decreased above 1 GHz. The power loss of electromagnetic wave absorption data showed almost the same tendency as the results of complex permittivity. However, the complex permeability was not largely affected by the frequency, and the values were decreased with the addition of charcoal powder. Based on the results, it can be summarized that the addition of charcoal powder was very effective to improve the EM wave absorption in the frequency range of 10 MHz$\sim$1 GHz.
In this study, the effects of heat treatment on the nano-scale creep behavior of CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloy (HEA) processed by high-pressure torsion (HPT) was investigated through nanoindentation technique. Nanoindentation experiments with a Berkovich indenter were performed on HPT-processed alloy subjected to heat treatment at 450℃, revealing that the hardness of the HPT-processed alloy (HPT sample) significantly increased with the heat treatment time. The heat treatment-induced microstructural change in HPT-processed alloy was analyzed using transmission electron microscopy, which showed the nano-sized Cr-, NiMn-, and FeCo-rich phases were formed in the HPT-processed alloy subjected to 10 hours of heat treatment (HPT+10A sample). To compare the creep behavior of HPT and HPT+10A samples, constant load nanoindentation creep experiments were performed using spherical indentation indenters with two different radii. It was revealed that the predominant mechanism for creep highly depended on the applied stress level. At low stress level, both HPT and HPT+10A samples were dominated by Coble creep. At high stress level, however, the mechanism transformed to dislocation creep for HPT sample, but continued to be Coble creep for HPT+10A sample, leading to higher creep resistance in the HPT+10A sample.
Nanocrystalline TiAlN coatings were prepared by reactively sputtering TiAl metal target with $N_2$ gas. This was done using a magnetron sputtering system operated in DC and ICP (inductively coupled plasma) conditions at various power levels. The effect of ICP power (from 0 to 300 W) on the coating microstructure, corrosion and mechanical properties were systematically investigated using FE-SEM, AFM and nanoindentation. The results show that ICP power has a significant influence on coating microstructure and mechanical properties of TiAlN coatings. With increasing ICP power, the coating microstructure evolved from the columnar structure typical of DC sputtering processes to a highly dense one. Average grain size of TiAlN coatings decreased from 15.6 to 5.9 nm with increasing ICP power. The maximum nano-hardness (67.9 GPa) was obtained for the coatings deposited at 300 W of ICP power. The smoothest surface morphology (Ra roughness 5.1 nm) was obtained for the TiAlN coating sputtered at 300 W ICP power.
By using electrodeposition, we developed a new method to produce Ni/Invar bimetal sheets, which have been used for the present study to investigate the texture evolution during annealing. The grains of electrodeposited Ni were columnar, while those of electrodeposited Fe-Ni alloy were nanocrystalline. These different parts of the bimetal underwent different evolution of textures and microstructures during annealing. In the nanocrystalline Invar, the as-deposited textures were of fiber-type characterized by strong <100>//ND and weak <111>//ND components, and the occurrence of grain growth resulted in the strong development of the <111>//ND fiber texture with the minor <100> // ND components. On the other hand, in the columnar-structured Ni part, the as-deposited <110>//ND fiber texture transformed to the <112>//ND fiber texture due to recrystallization occurring above $550^{\circ}C$. The development of microtextures which took place during annealing in the Ni/Invar interfacial regions was investigated by using the OIM analysis, and discussed in terms of the effect of atomic diffusion across the interfaces.
Soft magnetic properties and microstructural evolution of FeTaNC films were investigated, and compared with FeTaN and FeTaC films. Effects of substrate species (glass vs. $CaTiO_3$) on the magnetic properties were also investigated. Co-addition of N and C significantly enhance the grain refinments and magnetism, compared with N or C addition only. Good soft magnetic characteristics of coercivity of 0.17 Oe, permeability of 4000 (5MHz), and saturation flux density of 17 kG can be obtained in the FeTaNC in the relatively wide process windows. While these values appears to be similar to those of FeTaN on glass substrate, most distinctive difference between FeTaNC and FeTaN(or C) is in the effects of substrate. Whereas FeTaNC films show good magnetic characteristics for both glass and $CaTiO_3$ substrates, FeTaN(or C) films show significant degradation on the $CaTiO_3$ substrate.
