Since two-photon polymerization (TPP) emerged as a new technology over a decade ago, a large variety of micro-objects including 3-D micro-optical components, micromechanical devices, and 3-D photonic crystals have been fabricated using TPP with a high spatial resolution of approximately submicron scale to 100 nm. Recent efforts have been made to improve the fabrication efficiency and precision of micro-objects obtained with TPP; in particular, many studies have been carried out with the aim of developing efficient two-photon absorbing chromophores. In this presentation, we will discuss our efforts to develop highly efficient two-photon absorbing materials and also describe recent attempts to enhance the resolution and to improve the fabrication efficiency of nanofabrications based on TPP.
Recently, graphene has attracted considerable attention owing to its unique electrical, optical, thermal, and mechanical properties. The broad spectrum of applications from optics, sensors, and electronics to biodevice have been proposed based on these properties. In particular, graphene has been proposed as a protective coating layer and solid lubricant for microdevices and nanodevices because of its high mechanical strength, chemical inertness, and low friction characteristics. During the past decade, extensive efforts have been made to explore the tribological characteristics of graphene under various conditions and to expand its applicability. In addition to the experimental approaches, the molecular simulations performed provide fundamental insights into the friction and wear characteristics of graphene resulting from molecular interactions. This work is a review of the studies conducted over the past decade on the tribological characteristics of graphene using molecular simulation. These studies demonstrate the principal mechanisms of the superlubricity of graphene and help clarify the influences of surface conditions on tribological behavior. In particular, the investigation of the effects of the number of layers, strength of adhesion to the substrate, surface roughness, and commensurability provides deeper insights into the tribological characteristics of graphene. These fundamental understandings can help elucidate the feasibility of graphene as a protective coating layer and solid lubricant for microdevices and nanodevices.

A two-photon induced photoreduction process suggests a possibility for fabricating complicated metallic microstructures which can be applied to 3-D micro-circuits and optical devices, etc. The process employs the photoreduction of silver ions in a metallic solution which is composed of metallic salt ($AgNO_3$) and watersoluble polymer ((poly(4-styrenesulfonique acid) 18wt. % in $H_2O$, $(C_8H_8O_3S)_n$)). In this process, the improvement of the resolution and the uniformity of fabricated metallic structures are important issues. To address these problems, continuous forming window (CFW) is obtained from a parametric study on the conditions of laser power and scanning velocity and the direct seed generation (DSG) method is proposed. Silver nano particles are uniformly generated in a metallic solution through the DSG method, which enables the decrease of a laser power to trigger the photoreduction of silver ions as well as the increase of metal contents in a metallic solution. So the two-photon induced photoreduction property of a metallic solution is improved. Through this work, precise silver patterns are fabricated with a minimum line width of 400 nm.
As various manufacturing technology of optical glass is developed, the aspheric lenses are supplied to many fields. Electronic or measuring instruments equipped with aspheric lens have recently been used since aspheric lens is more effective than spheric one. However, it is still difficult manufacture glass lens because of high cost and the short life of core. The demands of the aspheric glass lenses increase since it is difficult to obtain the desirable performance in the plastic lens. For the mass production of aspheric lens, specific molds with precisely machined cores should be prepared. In order to obtain competitiveness in the field of industrial manufacturing, a reduction in the development period for the batch machining of products is required. It is essential to analyze the stress distribution and deformations of machining system which is used for manufacturing the aspheric lens using FEM software ANSYS. Finite element simulations have been performed in order to study the influence of machining system which is developed in this study on structures. It is very important to understand the structural behavior of machining system. This paper investigated the static analysis and dynamic analysis of machining system for aspheric lens to predict the damage due to loading.

An accurate mathematical model for complex stiffness of the pneumatic spring would be necessary for an efficient design of a pneumatic spring used in vibration isolation tables for precision instruments such as optical devices or nano-scale equipments. A diaphragm, often employed for prevention of air leakage, plays a significant role of complex stiffness element as well as the pressurized air itself Therefore, effects of the diaphragm need to be included in the dynamic model for a more faithful description of dynamic behavior of pneumatic spring. But the complex stiffness of diaphragm is difficult to predict In an analytical way, since it is a rubber membrane of complicated shape in itself. Moreover, the diaphragm should be expandable in response to pressurization inside a chamber, which makes direct measurement of complex stiffness of diaphragm extremely difficult. In our earlier research, the complex stiffness of diaphragm was indirectly measured, which was just to eliminate the theoretical stiffness of pressurized air from the measured complex stiffness of the pneumatic spring. In order to reflect complex stiffness of inflated diaphragm on the total stiffness at the initial design or design improvement stage, however. it is required to be able to predict beforehand. In this paper, how to predict the complex stiffness of inflated rubber diaphragm by commercial FE codes (e.g. ABAQUS) will be discussed and the results will be compared with the indirectly measured values.

Recently, the magnetorheological (MR) polishing process has been examined as a new ultra-precision polishing technology for mirror surface generation in many applications, such as aspheric lenses, biochips, micro parts, etc. This method uses MR fluids which contains micro abrasives as a polishing media, and can. It is possible to obtain nano level surface roughness under suitable process conditions, however, required polishing time is highly dependent on the applied pre-polishing methods due to its very small material removal rate. Thus, in this study, a combined polishing method is presented to reduce total polishing time for SUS304. First, the electropolishing (EP) method was applied to obtain fine surface roughness, and the MR polishing was followed. Surface roughness variations were investigated according to the process conditions. As the results of this study, it was possible to reduce total polishing time for SUS304 using the proposed combined polishing method.

Accurate modeling of complex dynamic stiffness of the pneumatic springs is crucial for an efficient design of vibration isolation tables for precision instruments such as optical devices or nano-technology equipments. Besides pressurized air itself, diaphragm made of rubber materials, essentially employed for prevention of air leakage, plays a significant contribution to the total complex stiffness. Therefore, effects of the diaphragm should be taken care of precisely. The complex stiffness of an inflated diaphragm is difficult to predict or measure, since it is always working together with the pressurized air. In our earlier research, the complex stiffness of a diaphragm was indirectly estimated simply by subtracting stiffness of the pressurized air from measurement of the total complex stiffness for a single chamber pneumatic spring. In order to reflect dynamic stiffness of inflated diaphragm on the total stiffness at the initial design or design improvement stage, however, it is required to be able to predict beforehand. In this presentation, how to predict the complex stiffness of inflated rubber diaphragm by commercial FE codes(e.g. ABAQUS) will be discussed and the results will be compared with the indirectly measured values.

In general, Light-hardening polymer was used UV nanoimprint technology. A light-hardening polymer was had the problem of poor hardness, durability. In order to overcome the problem of polymer, inter change optical glass. However glass is very manufacture and a lowering of standars transmittance. In order to glass recover was necessary polishing process. The process is magnetorheological fluids polishing. MR polishing has been developed as a new precision finishing technique to obtain a fine surface. Hence, Magnetorheological fluids has been used for micro polishing to get micro parts. This polishing process guarantees high polishing quality by controlling the fluid density electrically. The applied material in experiments is fused silica glass. Fused silica glass is widely used in the optical field because of high degree of purity. For MR polishing experiments, MR fluid was composed with DI-water, carbonyl iron and nano slurry ceria. The wheel speed and electric current were chosen as the variables for analyzing the characteristics of MR polishing process. Outstanding surface roughness of Ra=1.58nm was obtained on the fused silica glass specimen. And originally glass transmittance was recover on the fused silica glass.

The use of the scroll compressor in the air conditioning of medium-sized vehicles has increased because of its low torque fluctuation, high energy efficiency and low noise. In addition, the main components of the compressor have been changed from steel to aluminum to reduce its weight, following studies on the constituent materials. The processing precision of the fixed scroll and orbiting involute scroll wrap of the scroll compressor must be below $10{\mu}m$. To ensure this, the surface roughness and contour tolerance are measured. To improve the hardness of the orbiting scrolls using aluminum subjected to anodizing treatment and as the base material, we used a sealing treatment and measured the resulting characteristics. The aluminum materials were made of an Al-Mg-Cu based alloy including small amounts of Ni, Fe, and Zn. The surface roughness was less than $3{\mu}m$ and the processing accuracy was within $10{\mu}m$. Also, the hardness of the nanodiamonds with CNTs used in the sealing treatment was more than 450. This was found to improve the hardness of the material by 50% or more compared to the water sealing treatment and there was little difference between the use of carbon nanotubes and nanodiamonds as sealing materials.
