  • For the fabrication of nano patterned products manufacturing a nano patterned mold is needed in advance. The nano patterned stamper was fabricated by electroforming the AAO master with nickel. The surface of nickel-plated stamper had nano-patterned holes with the diameter of 73 nm and the depth of 83 nm. Hot embossing was used for forming P3HT sheet and the process factors of hot embossing were closer as pressure, temperature and time. In the present paper hot embossing experiments were performed to find the main process conditions to affect the replication ratio of nano patterns on surface of P3HT sheet. As a result, main contributing factors for the replication ratio of hot embossed pattern could be sequentially enumerated as pressure, temperature and time.

  • Nano-imprint technology has been vigorously studied by many researchers for it is one of the most promising technologies for manufacturing the pattern with its critical dimension below 100nm. In the nano-imprint technology, nano patterns are transferred on a polymer film and the transferred patterns are used as an etch mask to define the designed patterns on a substrate or a metal layer. To this end, it is important to keep the residual thickness of the imprinted polymer film uniform. In this study, a novel measurement technique to measure the residual thickness of films is proposed based on nanoindentation theory. This technique has advantages of saving time and measuring the residual thickness of highly-localized portions in comparison with other techniques, but has limitation of requiring calibration process.

  • Ion beam sputtering (IBS) by collision of energetic ions at surfaces is one of the representative methods for physical self-assembly. It is in spotlight as an easy tool to make nano structures in various sizes and shapes by controlling physical variablesWe investigate nano patterning on graphite. We found well-ordered nano ripple patterns after sputtering under the oblique angle and mean wavelengths of these ripples could be controlled as ion fluence increases from sub-10 nm to 80 nm. Each nano ripple is terminated by nano buds, which look like a cotton bud. We also examined the formation of various patterns on graphite by sputtering during swinging the sample at a constant angular velocity that have been never reported.

  • The main objective of this study is to prepare the bionanocomposite films using mungbean starch (MBS), PVA, ZnS, and plasticizers, and to evaluate the physical properties, thermal stability, and photocatalytic activity. The bionanocomposite films were cross-linked by heat-curing process. The ZnS and bionanocomposite films were characterized by FT-IR, XRD, and SEM. The results indicated that the mechanical properties and water resistance enhanced up to 1.2-1.5 times by the addition of nano-ZnS particles, and the thermal stability was improved by the addition of nano-ZnS particles. The photocatalytic activity of the bionanocomposite films added nano-ZnS particles was examined using bisphenol A (BPA) and methyl orange (MO). In addition, the photodegradation efficiency of BPA and MO was evaluated using the pseudo-first order kinetic model (PFOK).

  • There are many applications of nanostructures, have been suggested by lots of researchers. It is highly required to measure the properties of nano-sized materials for design and fabrication of the nanostructures. In this paper, several techniques for measuring the mechanical properties of nano-structures are presented laying emphasis on the activity of Nano Property Measurement Team in KIMM. Some advanced applications of nano-indenter are described for measuring elastic, visco-elastic, frictional and adhesive properties as well as the standard methods of it. Micro-tensile test technique with accurate in-plane strain measurement method is also presented and its role in the property measurement of nanostructures is discussed.

  • In this paper, we propose the method to measure the Young's modulus of carbon nano tube which was manufactured by chemical vapor deposition. We also made the tungsten tip by electrochemical etching process and the carbon nano tube which was detangled through ultra-sonication with isopropyl alcohol was attached to the tungsten tip. This tip which was composed of tungsten tip and carbon nano tube can be used in Young's modulus measurement by applying DC voltage with counter electrode. The attachment process and measurement of the deflection of carbon nano tube was done under optical microscope.

  • A LCoS micro-display using polymer dispersed liquid crystals (PDLCs) for light switching layer was fabricated. The Si backplane of SVGA ($800{\times}600$) with a pixel size of $14{\times}14mm^2$ was prepared by a $0.35{\mu}m$ 18V CMOS process. PDLCs were filled in the gap between backplane and ITO glass by conventional vacuum filling method. The prepared panels were driven by a field sequential color (FSC) scheme at the frequency of 180Hz and were successful in modulating LED lights to show projection images. The preparation and performance of PDLC-LCoS are presented.

  • A new system using $TiO_2$ (nano-sized, band-gap 3.14 eV)-impregnated spherical ZnS (micro-sized, band-gap 2.73 eV) nano/micro-composites (Ti 0.001, 0.005, 0.01, and 0.05 mol %/ZnS) was developed to enhance the production of hydrogen from methanol/water splitting. The ZnS particles in a spherical morphology with a diameter of about 2-4 mm which can absorb around 455 nm were prepared by hydrothermal method. This material was used as a photocatalyst with loading by nano-sized $TiO_2$ (20-30 nm) for hydrogen production. The evolution of $H_2$ from methanol/water (1:1) photo splitting over the $TiO_2$/ZnS composite in the liquid system was enhanced, compared with that over pure $TiO_2$ and ZnS. In particular, 1.2 mmol of $H_2$ gas was produced after 12 h when 0.005 mol % $TiO_2$/ZnS nano/micro-composite was used. On the basis of cyclic voltammeter (CV) and UV-visible spectrums results, the high photoactivity was attributed to the larger band gap and the lower LUMO in the $TiO_2$/ZnS composite, due to the decreased recombination between the excited electrons and holes.
