Many of today's environmental problems are regional in scope and their effects overlap and interact. The purpose of this paper is to developed a simple method for an integrated assessment of environmental conditions across the Mid-Nakdong River Region, by combining data on land use, impervious cover, roads, streams, riparian areas, forest patches, population, pollutant loadings, soil erosion and topography. A cluster analysis was used to identify groups of sub-watersheds with similar environmental characteristics. The mean value for each group was used to find watershed that may be more vulnerable to future environmental degradation. Watersheds in cluster I and II had high amount of forest, but the amount of riparian vegetation was low. Watersheds in cluster III, which located in the middle Geumho River and the main course of Nakdong River, had a greater proportion of their agriculture, a greater proportion of agriculture on steep slopes, and less forest adjacent to streams. Watersheds in cluster IV and V were in the most urbanized areas of the region. The principal adverse impacts for watersheds in this group were high scores for urban area, impervious cover, pollutant loadings, population density, forest fragmentation, and low amounts of forest and riparian forest cover. Notwithstanding the exploratory nature of cluster analysis, it appears to be a useful tool for grouping watersheds with similar environmental characteristics.
The horizontal distributions of $^{224}Ra$ (half life=3.4 days) and $^{223}Ra$ (half life=11.3 days) were measured in surface seawaters of the Nakdong River estuary and the South Sea of Korea in April and October 2002. In order to determine these short-lived Ra isotopes, we used a delayed coincidence counter which is much more rapid and accurate than traditional methods. In an estuarine mixing zone (salinity, ~l6 ppt), the activities of $^{224}Ra\;and\;^{223}Ra$ were much greater than what would be expected from a mixture of freshwater and seawater in the Nakdong River estuary. This excess Ra may be a result of Ra desorption from fresh sediments originating from the river upstream. However, in the more open areas of the Nakdong River estuary (salinity>30 ppt) and the South Sea of Korea, $^{224}Ra\;and\;^{^{223}Ra$ activities decreased exponentially as a function of distance offshore. Using the decrease of $^{223}Ra$ with distance offshore in the South Sea of Korea, we estimated the apparent horizontal eddy diffusivities. The apparent eddy diffusion coefficients in South Sea of Korea are calculated to be approximately $3500-8000\;\textrm{m}^2/sec$.
As a result of analysis based on the observed data for BOD, COD and TOC in order to manage non-biodegradable organics in the Geumho River, COD/BOD ratio was analyzed as the occupying predominance proportion. In this study, the classification(changes in water quality measurement : increase, equal, decrease) and measurement of BOD and COD were analyzed for trends over the past 10 years from 2005 to 2014 in the Geumho River. The Geumho River is expected to need non-biodegradable organics management because BOD was found to be reduced 61.1% and COD was found to be increased 50%. As a result of the analysis of land use, the Geumho-A is a unit watershed area of $921.13km^2$, which is the most common area that is occupied by forests. The Geumho-B is a unit watershed area of $436.8km^2$, which is the area that is highest occupied by agriculture and grass of 24.84%. The Geumho-C is a unit watershed area of $704.56km^2$ accounted for 40.29% of the entire watershed, which is the area that is occupied by urban of 15.12%. Load of non-biodegradable organics, which is not easy biodegradable according to the discharge, appeared to be increased because flow coefficient of COD and TOC at the Geumho-B were estimated larger than 1 value. The management of non-point sources of agricultural land is required because the Geumho-B watershed area occupied by the high proportion of agriculture and field. In this segment it showed to increase the organics that biodegradation is difficult because the ratio of BOD and TOC was decreased rapidly from GR7 to GR8. Thus, countermeasures will be required for this.
The estuary of Nakdong river is very influenced by the freshwater contained nutrients and organic materials. The response results of these influences are eutrophication and red tide outbreak in this region. Concentration of chlorophyll a was 0.78~62.55$\mu\textrm{g}$/L in February 1.20~21.29$\mu\textrm{g}$/L in April 1.88~188.35$\mu\textrm{g}$/L in June and 0.78~11.21$\mu\textrm{g}$/L in August respectively. The decrease of chlorophyll a is considered that residence time is shorten by increase of freshwater discharge and unfavorable growth condition of phytoplankton is created by diffusion of low salinity and increase of turbidity. The phytoplankton maximum region located inner side of this estuary during winter season whereas it was moved to outer side when mean discharge of the Nakdong risver was increased, Therefore the variation of phytoplankton maximum region was affected by input discharge from the Nakdong river basin.

Research for deposits in Nakdong eatuary that research about Nakdong eatuary's sediment flows out in Nakdong-kang so far had been progressed but research about deposits that is flowed in open sea is insufficient. Observed Nakdong eatuary's characteristic of sediment transfer through observation during the second during Buteo 20 days on February 6, 2004 in this research Resuspension bed load Flux appeared high the first result St.4 point and St.5 point. St.4 branch had much bed load amount that is flowed in the east, and bed load that St.5 branch is flowed in the south appeared much Tendency such as the first showed in the second result, but compare with the first result and St.5 branch had much bed load that is transfer in end. Bed load that is transfer in observation result Nakdong river was less. As this, can know that amount of sediment that is transfer in open sea more than deposits that is transfer in Nakdong river is much Is expected to exert effect that deposits that is transfer in open sea is high in Nakdong estuary's topography change. Specially, observation result is expected that Nakdong estuary's deposition tendency becomes Jinwoodo southern and Shinho southern.
The Nakdong river is both a natural resource crucial to underwater ecosystems and a water source for its basin's residents. Industrial wastewater and domestic sewage must meet the relevant standards for discharged water before they can flow into the river. The correlation between old and new measures of organic matter was examined using water quality data from 50 monitoring locations in the main stream of the Nakdong river. The coefficient of determination (R2) for total organic carbon (TOC), the new measure of organic matter, and chemical oxygen demand (COD), the old measure of organic matter, in the main stream of the Nakdong river was 0.6134, indicating high correlation. Water quality at each location assessed using TOC and COD showed disparities that cannot be ignored: quality appeared higher when evaluating the main stream of the Nakdong river using TOC instead of COD. Therefore, there remains a need to review water quality ratings based on TOC; continuous monitoring of COD is also required. In addition, the cause of the difference should be clearly identified to help assess artificial sources of pollution and natural factors affecting organic matter. Water management of the Nakdong river will then be possible using the water quality rating.

The aim of this study is to find out major accumulation zones through field survey and moving route tracking trials on floating debris of Nakdong River. It also identified composition and accumulated amount of the floating debris by sample survey for accumulation zones. As a result, total 5 accumulation zones were selected from the midstream and downstream of the Nakdong River. There was a large amount of floating debris, including vegetation debris, in the accumulation zones. And two accumulation zones located in the downstream region, it is much more likely to flow into the ocean along river. From the sample survey on the major accumulation zones, more than $40{\ell}$ of floating debris were collected including vegetation and artificial debris. As a result of composition analysis for artificial debris, plastic(49%) and styrofoam(36%) were the majority in number. The present study is expected to help to plan an efficient pre-collecting activity and to reduce floating debris flowing into the ocean from the Nakdong River.

After building the dyke in Nakdong River Estuary, mixing of freshwater inflow to ocean and seawater to upstream is controlled by operating the sluice gates. Mixing and convergence of seawater and freshwater by opening the sluice gates, have a major impact on the circulation of seawater in the Nakdong River Estuary. Field measurement was carried out to study the characteristics of the estuary flow and environment of each channel of the Nakdong River Estuary. Vertical salinity distribution and residual current is different from each channel by the river discharge and topographic changes.

This study reviewed the behavior(movement) characteristics of floating marine debris flowing in the Nakdong River Estuary using a simple numerical particle-tracking model on the conditions of the maximum water discharge outflow from the Nakdong River barrage during the passage of typhoon Maemi in 2003. The simulation showed that the particle distribution and movement of floating marine debris in the Nakdong River Estuary reached a stable state at 72 hours after the typhoon had passed, during the flood period of river discharge. The quantity of floating particles distributed on the east coast of Gadeok and Jinu Islands increased by 40% at 33 hours after starting the model, while the change in other sea areas was 20-40%.

To understand the effects of marine environmental and meteorological parameters on laver Porphyra yezoensis production at Nakdong River Estuary, we analyzed marine environmental (water temperature, salinity, nutrients, etc.) and meteorological properties (air temperature, wind speed, precipitation, sunshine hours) with yearly and monthly variations in laver production over 10 years (2003-2013). Air and water temperature, wind speed, sunshine hours and precipitation were major factors affecting yearly variability in laver production at the Nakdong River Estuary. Lower air and water temperatures together with higher levels of nutrients and sunshine and stronger wind speeds resulted in higher laver harvests. Salinity and nitrogen did not show clear correlations with laver production, mainly due to the plentiful supply of nitrogen from river discharge and the low frequency of environmental measurements, which resulted in low statistical confidence. However, environmental factors affecting monthly laver production were related to the life cycle (culturing stage) of Porphyra yezoensis and were somewhat different from factors affecting annual laver production. In November, a young laver needs lower water temperatures for rapid growth, while a mature laver needs much stronger winds and more sunshine, as well as lower temperatures for massive production and effective photosynthesis, mostly in December and January. However, in spring (March), more stable environments with fewer fluctuations in air temperature are needed to sustain the production of newly deployed culture-nets ($2^{nd}$ time culture). These results indicate that rapid changes in weather and marine environments caused by global climate change will negatively affect laver production and, thus, to sustain the yield of and predict future variability in laver production at the Nakdong River estuary, environmental variation around laver culturing farms needs to be monitored with high resolution in space and time.
