Changes of physicochemical properties during the preparation of persimmon pickles were investigated. The salinity in persimmon pickles increased during storage time $(0{\sim}50\;days)$ with soy sauce and soy paste. When the fermented soy sauce and soy paste was added to the soaking solution with $80{\sim}100%$, the salinity increased more rapidly. The hardness of persimmon pickles with soy sauce and soy paste was slightly increased up to the 20 or 30th day of storage and then decreased. L value of persimmon pickles was gradually decreased, but a and b value were slightly increased. The concentration of soluble tannin in persimmon pickles was slightly decreased down to the 20th day of storage and then decreased rapidly. The activities of polygalacturonase and pectinesterase as softening enzyme in persimmon pickles with soy sauce and soy paste increased during storage time $(0{\sim}50\;days)$ and enzyme activity was inhibited by high concentration of soaking solution.
To obtain the basic data for preparing edible or biodegradable film, fish meal protein isolates (FMPI) were prepared through alkaline extraction. And FMPI's properties and the ester compounds permeability of FMPI film were measured. FMPI were extracted under various extracting time with 0.2 N NaOH solution at $60^{\circ}C$, Recovery ratios of FMPI extracted from fish meal were increased with extracting time increasing. Surface hydrophobicity of FMPI extracted for 1 hr showed highest value. Emulsifying activity index (EAI) was increased with the increasement of extracting time but its emulsifying stability index (ESI) showed an inverse results. Viscosity of FMPI solution showed the highest value at pH 2 but showed the lowest value at pH 4, The higher concentration of sorbitol as plasticizer showed the higher ethyl acetate permeability of FMPI film, Ethyl acetate permeability of FMPI films according to kind of plasticizers showed different degree and increased in order as follow: polyethylene glycol, glycerol and sorbitol. Ester compounds having the lower molecular weight showed the higher permeability. Increment of temperature increased the ethyl acetate permeability of FMPI film. FMPI haying higher surface hydrophobicity made FMPI film be higher tensile strength. On elongation of FMPI films, kinds of plasticizer were more effective than surface hydrophobicity of FMPI.
$\beta$-cyclodextrin ($\beta$-CD) polymers were prepared in a strong alkali condition solution (NaOH solution 30% (w/v)) using epichlorohydrin (EPI) as a cross-linker, and the molar ratio of EPI to $\beta$-CD was 10 : 1. The $\beta$-CD content in $\beta$-CD polymers is about 52%. In order to get the photo-responsible and pH-responsible, cinnamic acid was added to be inserted into the cavities of $\beta$-CD due to the hydrophobic interaction. The complex formation was confirmed using transmission electron microscope. The dimerization degree of complexes increased under UV irradiation at $\lambda$ = 365 nm but decreased under the UV irradiation at $\lambda$ = 254 nm. Dynamic light scattering analysis of particle sizes showed that the sizes of complexes did not change with different UV wavelength. Moreover, the complexes were pH-responsible because of the carboxyl group of cinnamic acid, but the size and zeta potential of the complex did not change in strong acid and alkali conditions.

It determined by the usual symptoms and the symptoms now, vital qi and pathogenic factors, symptom and the root cause, acute stage and chronic stage, and the state of pathogenesis. Conclusion : A new perfect complementary medicine can be created which is based on the setting that Sasang constitutional medicine primarily treat the usual symptoms, vital qi, the root cause, chronic stage and basic pathogenesis when Syndrome identification and treatment medicine primarily treat the symptoms now, pathogenic factors, symptom, acute stage and stage pathogenesis.
The recycling of titanium turning scraps requires the removal of cutting oil and other contaminants remaining on the surface. In this study, an experiment was conducted in which titanium scraps were cleaned by a combination of ultrasonic immersion-steam cleaning and subsequent drying at high temperature. To determine the removal mechanism of cutting oil, the contact angle between titanium surface and cutting oil was measured. The result confirmed the optimum condition of the immersion solution of the titanium turning scraps. In the case of immersion cleaning of Na4P2O7 aqueous solution, the degree of carbon removed in the cutting oil was the highest at 50℃, and it was confirmed that the carbon content obtained from the combination of steam cleaning and ultrasonic immersion-steam cleaning was lower than that from steam cleaning after ultrasonic immersion. The oxidation and decomposition behaviors of cutting oil were investigated using Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and the result was applied in the high temperature drying process. From the results of the high temperature drying tests, it was concluded that 200℃ is the optimal drying temperature.
This study was carried out to investigate the structural characteristics of kraft lignin and the wood degrading characteristics, the productivity of ligninolytic enzymes and the enzymatic degradation of kraft lignin by white-rot fungi. To purify kraft lignin, precipitation of kraft pulping black liquors of pitch pine meal was done by titration with lN $H_{2}SO_{4}$ reaching to pH 2, and isolation of the precipitates done by centrifugation. The isolated precipitates from pitch pine were redissloved in lN NaOH, reprecipitated by titration with lN $H_{2}SO_{4}$, washed with deionized water, and kept ofr analysis after freeze drying. Fractionation of the precipitates in solution by successive extraction with $CH_{2}Cl_{2}$ and MeOH, and the fractionates were named SwKL, SwKL I, SwKL II, and SwKL III for pitch pine kraft lignin. The more molecular weights of kraft lignin increased, the less phenolic hydroxyl groups and the more aliphatic hydroxyl groups. Because as the molecular weights increased, the ratio of etherified guaiayl/syringyl(G/S ratio) and the percentage were increased. The spectra obtained by 13C NMR and FTIR assigned by comparing the chemical shifts of various signals with shifts of signals from autherized ones reported. The optimal growth temperature and pH of white-rot fungi in medium were $28^{\circ}C$ and 4.5-5.0, respectively. Especially, in temperature and pH range, and mycelial growth, the best white-rot fungus selected was Phanerochaete chrysosporium for biodegradation. For the degradation pathways, the ligninolytic fungus jcultivated with stationary culture using medium of 1% kraft lignin as a substrate for 3 weeks at $28^{\circ}C$. The weight loss of pitch pine kraft lignin was 15.8%. The degraded products extracted successively methoanol, 90% dioxane and diethyl ether. The ether solubles were analyzed by HPLC. Kraft lignin degradation was initiated in $\beta$-O-4 bonds of lignin by the laccase from Phanerochaete chrysosporium and the degraded compounds were produced from the cleavage of $C\alpha$-$C\beta$ linkages at the side chains by oxidation process. After $C\alpha$-$C\beta$ cleavage, $C\alpha$-Carbon was oxidized and changed into aldehyde and acidic compounds such as syringic acid, syringic aldehyde and vanilline. And the other compound as quinonemethide, coumarin, was analyzed. The structural characteristics of kraft lignin were composed of guaiacyl group substituted functional OHs, methoxyl, and carbonyl at C-3, -4, and -5 and these groups were combinated with $\alpha$ aryl ether, $\beta$ aryl ether and biphenyl. Kraft lignin degradation pathways by Phanerochaete chrysosporium were initially accomplished cleavage of $C\alpha$-$C\beta$ linkages and $C\alpha$ oxidation at the propyl side chains and finally cleavage of aromatic ring and oxidation of OHs.
Adsorption behavior of Cu onto Hwangto, from Pankok-ri, Kosung-gun, suspension was studied using Cu batch adsorftion experiment and computer program MINTEQA2 and FITEQL 3.2. The sorption of copper was investigated as a function of pH, copper concentration and $NaNO_3$ background concentration (0.01 and 0.1 M). The concentration of copper was analyzed using ICP-AES. The sorption of copper onto Hwangto suspension increased with increasing pH and copper concentration. The adsorption percentage of copper drastically increased from pH 5.5 to 6.5, and reached nearly 100% at pH 7.5. Because the amount of copper solution and the ionic strength of background electrolyte may not affect the sorption of copper onto Hwangto, the copper ion may be combined at the surface of Hwangto as an inner-sphere complex. Using the MINTEQA2 program, the speciation of copper was calculated as a function of pH and copper concentration. The concentration of $Cu^{2+}$ decreased and that of $Cu(OH)_2$ increased with increasing pH. The uptake of copper in the Hwangto suspension was simulated by FITEQL3.2 program using two sites-three pKas model, which is composed of silicate reaction site and Fe oxide reaction site. The copper absorption reaction constants were calculated in the case of 2~6 mL of copper solution. The Fe oxide reaction site rapidly adsorbs copper ion between pH 4.5~6.5. Silicate reaction site adsorbs little copper ion at low copper concentration but much at high copper concentration. The removal amount of copper by precipitation was negligible in comparison with that of adsorption. The Fe oxide reaction site may has higher adsorption affinity of copper ion than silicate reaction site.
A series of laboratory experiment was conducted to find out the chemical composition, characterization of humic substances by physical and chemical methods and reaction of Na-pyrophosphate, $Ca(OH)_2$ and rice straw with albumin on the degradation of soil organic matter in the volcanic ask soils of the Jeju Island. Results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. The contents of organic matter, available silicon, active iron and aluminum concentration in volcanic ash the soils were remarkably higher but available phosphorous was comparatively lower than the mineral soils. In volcanic ash soil, the contents of potassium, calcium and magnessium were higher in upland soil than that of forest soil. The ratios of active $Al^{{+}{+}{+}}/Fe^{{+}{+}}$, C/P and $K/Ca^+$ Mg were apparently high in volcanic ash soils while that of $SiO_2$/O.M. was high in mineral soil. 2. The carbon/nitrogen ratio in humin, humic acid content in organic matter, and carbon contents of humin in total carbon of soil organic matter were apparently higher in the volcanic ash soils than in the mineral soils, The total nitrogen and fractions of acid or alkali soluble nitrogen were remarkably high in volcanic ash soils while mineralizable nitrogen ($NH_4$-N and $NO_3$) contents were high in mineral soils. 3. The values of K600, RF and log K were also higher in volcanic ash soils than those in mineral soils, and the absorbance in the visible range were high and color was dark in the soil of which humification was progressed Extracted humic acid from volcanic ash soil was less reactive to the oxidizing chemical reagent and was persistance to the acid or alkali hydrolysises. 4. The major oxygen-containing functional groups in humic substances of volcanic ash soils were phenolic-OH alcoholic-OH and carboxyl groups while those in mineral soil were methoxyl and carbonyl groups. 5. Absorption spectra of alkaline solution of humic acid ranged from 200 nm to maxima 500 nm. Visible spectra peaks of from humic substances in the visible region were recognized at 350, 420, 450 and 480 nm. Only one single absorbance peak was observed in the visible region at 362 nm for Heugag series and two absorbance Peak were also at 360 nm and 390 nm for Yeungrag series. 6. Evolution of carbon as $Co_2$ was increased with addition of Na-pyrophosphate in Namweon and Heugag series, and "priming effects" took place on the soil organic matter decomposition by addition of rice straw with albumin in Ido series.

To investigate the acid tolerance characteristics of the acid-resistant mutant, Leuconostoc paramesenteroides P-200, as a kimchi starter, this study examine proton permeability, ATPase activity, glycolysis activity, $Mg^{2+}$ release, and membrane fatty acid composition, and compared the data to that of its wild-type, L. paramesenteroides LP-W. In the proton permeability experiment, the LP-W and P-200 strains' average maximum half-time $(t_{1/2})$ values for pH equilibration through the cell membrane were approximately 5.7 and 9.3 min in 150mM KCl solution, and 4.2 and 8.3 min in 3% NaCl solution, respectively. Their values and pH levels for maximal specific ATPase activity showed that P-200 had greater activity than LPW. And the results of pH-dependent glycolysis activity showed that P-200 had greater activity than LP-W. Furthermore, after 2 hr at pH 4.0, LP-W and P-200 had percent magnesium release values of approximately 12% and 34%, respectively. A comparison of their membrane fatty acid compositions indicated that C18 and cyclo-C19 were the major different fatty acids between the two strains, and their contents of C18 and cyclo-C19 were 2.5% and not detected, respectively, in LP-W, and 6.4% and 11.4%, respectively, in P-200. These results indicate that the P-200 strain has significantly improved acid tolerance as compared to its wild type, LP-W.
Pot and laboratory tests were undertaken to investigate the influence of silicate fertilization on butachlor phytotoxicity to rice. Growth of rice seedlings at 150 ppm of $SiO_2$ was stimulated, while adverse effect was observed over 300 ppm of $SiO_2$ and growth reduction was enhanced with combination of butachlor and $SiO_2$ Rice growth in pot trial at 150kg/10a of silicate fertilization was not influenced by recommended amounts of butachlor and nitrofen, however, the growth of Seokwang byeo at 300kg/10a of silicate was markedly retarded by butachlor in the initial stage of growth. Growth reduction of Seokwang byeo caused by combined application of silicate and butachlor was recovered 50 days after herbicide application. Growth reduction from butachlor was not influenced by pH level and also degradation behaviors of butachlor in submerged soil was not altered by silicate fertilization. Adsorbed amount of butachlor on rice root was increased with addition of $SiO_2$ and its amount in Seokwang byeo was higher than that of Jinju byeo. Butachlor absorption by Seokwang byeo was accelerated by 150 ppm of $SiO_2$ applied simultaneously, but those effect was not encountered in Jinju byeo. Butachlor absorption of rice seedlings was also increased by 150 ppm of $K_2O$, while CaO hindered the absorption and $Na_2O$ had no effect on the absorption. Residual level of butachlor in Seokwang byeo treated with combined solution of butachlor and $SiO_2$ was continued higher than that with butachlor alone during 10 days after transplantation to culture solution.
