The aquation and base hydrolysis of [Co(en)$_2$NH$_3$Cl]$^{2+}$ were studied by UV spectroscopic method in various SDS aqueous solution. The base hydrolysis of [Co(en)$_2$NH$_3$Cl]$^{2+}$ with the addition of 0, 0.05, 0.1 mol dm$^{-3}$ sodium chloride was studied. For the aquation of the complex, the rate constant in the micellar phase(kH$^M$) was a little larger than that in the aqueous phase(kH$^W$). With the increase of SDS concentration, the second order rate constant(kOH) for the base hydrolysis unchanged below the CMC and sharply decreased down to a limiting value after the CMC was reached. The effect of added NaCl on the rate behavior of the complexes in the micellar solution were investigated by using an ion-exchanged model.
To study the effect of incorporation of a surface crosslinking layer on a crosslinked poly (sodium acrylate) (cPSA) absorbent with ethylene glycol dimethacrylate CEGDMA), we synthesized several surface crosslinked cPSAs with EGDMA by an inverse emulsion polymerization method to delay the absorption of excess water in concrete, Liquid paraffin was used as a continuous phase. cPSA was synthesized with acrylic acid (AA) neutralized with aqueous 8 M sodium hydroxide solution as a monomer, N,N-methylene bisacrylamide (MBA) as crosslinking agent and ammonium persulfate (APS) and sodium metabisulfite (SMBS) as a redox initiator system by inverse emulsion polymerization. FTIR spectroscopy was used to characterize $Ca^{2+}$ ion interaction with cPSA and cPSA-EGDMAs. The swelling ratios of synthesized absorbents were evaluated from the absorption in deionized water, cement saturated aqueous solution and aqueous solution of calcium hydroxide (pH 12). Equilibrium swelling times for cPSA and surface crosslinked cPSA with EGDMA were 2 and 3 hrs, respectively. We also observed an increase in setting time of the cement and an increase in the compressive strength of mortar by addition of the synthesized cPSA-EGDMA.
The present paper describes the solvent extraction behaviors and the mutual separation of Am and Eu by sulphur bearing Cyanex 301 acidic extractant in sodium nitrate solutions. Original Cyanex 301 was not able to separate the Am and Eu because of their similar extraction behaviors. The saponification of commercial Cyanex 301 was performed by small amounts of 8 M NaOH solutions and saponified Cyanex 301 was able to separate of Am from Eu with high selectivity in sodium nitrate aqueous solution. The separation factors ($SF_{Am/Eu}$) were increased with saponified ratio of commercial Cyanex 301, pH of sodium nitrate solution and initial concentration of Eu. To obtain the homogeneous saponified Cyanex 301, heterogeneous saponified Cyanex 301 was treated with addition of octyl alcohol or filtration. The observed $SF_{Am/Eu}$ was 32.3 for the former and 930 for the latter. Finally, the stripping behaviors of Am and Eu were similar and stripping yields showed 96.1% for the 1 M $NaNO_3$(pH=1.3) and 99% for the mixture solution of 0.05 M DTPA and 1.5 M lactic acid.
Sulfonated poly(phenylene sulfide) (SPPS) polymers were prepared by sulfonation of poly[methyl[4-(phenylthio) phenyl]sulfonium trifluoromethanesulfonate] (PPST) with fumic sulfonic acid (10% $SO_3-H_2SO_4$) and demethylation with aqueous NaOH solution. The equilibrium constants of ion exchange reactions between alkali metal cations ($Li^+,\;Na^+,\;and\;K^+$) and SPPS ion exchanger in organic solvents such as tetrahydrofuran (THF) and dioxane were measured. The equilibrium constants of ion exchange reactions increased as the polarity of the solvent increased, and the reaction temperature decreased. The equilibrium constants of the ion exchange reaction ($K_{eq}$) also increased in the order of $Li^+,\;Na^+,\;and\;K^+$. To elucidate the spontaneity of the exchange reaction in organic solvents, the enthalpy, entropy, and Gibbs free energy were calculated. The enthalpy of reaction ranged from -0.88 to -1.33 kcal/mol, entropy ranged from 1.42 to 4.41 cal/Kmol, and Gibbs free energy ranged from -1.03 to -2.55 kcal/mol. Therefore, the exchange reactions were spontaneous because the Gibbs free energies were negative. The SPPS ion exchanger and alkali metal ion bounding each other produced good ion exchange capability in organic solvents.

The gelation characteristics of chitosan of different molecular weight were investigated in terms of concentration and temperature of alkari aqueous solution. The average molecular weights and the degrees of deacetylation of the chitosan used were $2.0{\times}10^5$, $5.2{\times}10^5$, $8.2{\times}10^5$ and 85%, respectively. Sodium hydroxide solution was used as a gelation agent. A simple diffusion model was applied to study the gelation rate. The diffusion coefficients of the gelation agent in the chitosan gel increased with increasing its concentration, temperature of the casting solution, and molecular weight of the chitosan.

Osteoblast is one of cells related with osseointegration and many research have conducted the adhesion of osteoblast onto the surface of implant. In the osseointegration, biocompatibility of the implant and cell adhesion to the surface are important factors. The researches related to cell adhesion have a direction from micro-scaled surface roughness to nano-scaled surface roughness with advancing nanotechnology. A cell reacts and sense to stimuli from extracellular matrix (ECM) and topography of the ECM [1]. Thus, for better osseointegration, we should provide an environment similar to ECM. In this study, we synthesize TiO2 nanowires using hydrothermal reaction because TiO2 provides inertness to titanium on its surface and enables it used as an implant material for the orthopedic treatment such as fixation of the bone fracture [2]. Ti substrate is immersed into NaOH aqueous solution. The solution are heated at $140{\sim}200^{\circ}C$ for various time (10~720 minutes). After heat treatment, we take out the sample and immerse it into HCl aqueous solution for 1 hour. The acid treated sample is heated again at $500^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours [3]. Then, we culture osteoblast on the TiO2 nanowires. For investigating cell adhesion onto nanostructured surface, we conduct several tests such as MTT assay, ALP (Alkaline phosphatase) activity assay, measuring calcium expression, and so on. These preliminary results of the cell culture on the nanowires are foundation for investigating cell-material interaction especially with nanostructure interaction.

This study was conducted to improve the recycling process of waste fluorescent lamp, and investigate the possibility of using the waste fluorescent lamp glass as a raw material for glass beads, the leaching method of rare earth from the waste phosphor powder, and the possibility of solvent extraction of rare earth from the rare earth leaching solution. The waste phosphor contained 28.9% yttrium oxide, 3.46% cerium oxide, 1.95% europium oxide, 1.76% terbium oxide, and 1.43% lanthanum oxide. As a result of the trial production of glass beads using waste fluorescent lamp glass, it was judged that the production yield and quality were excellent, so that waste fluorescent lamp glass could be used as a raw material for glass beads. The soda roasted waste phosphor was leached in water and thereby the aqueous solution was blown with CO2 to drop the pH to about 7, Then, Al, Si and residual N2CO3 were dissolved, and NaAlCO3(OH)2 and SiO2 were precipitated in the aqueous solution. In the solvent extraction of cyanex272-hydrochloric acid, cyanex272-sulfuric acid, D2EHPA-hydrochloric acid, D2EHPA-sulfuric acid, Ionquest290-hydrochloric acid, Ionquest290-sulfuric acid, p507-hydrochloric acid using xylene as a diluent, the extraction yield of Y, Eu, Ce, La, and Tb are close to 100%. However, in this conditions, the difference in extraction yield for each element, that is, selectivity is 16% or less.
The exo-polysaccharide producing microorganism, Aureobasidium pullulans IMS-822, was isolated and identified from soil. The viscosity-average molecular weight of exo-polysaccharide was calculated as $8.9{\times}10^5$ by Mark-Houwink equation. The sugar component of exo-polysaccharide was determined as glucose by HPLC analysis. The IR spectra indicated that the exo-polysaccharide has an absorption peak at 890 $cm^{-1}$ for the ${\beta}-configuration$ of D-glucan. The $^{13}C$ NMR signal at ${\delta}$ 86.62 ppm arose from the substituted C-3 of glucose. The signal at ${\delta}$ 72.11 ppm was assigned to C-6 of branched ${\beta}-(1{\to}3)-D-glucosyl$ residues. Viscosity and Congo red reaction indicated that {\beta}-(1{\to}3)(1{\to}6)-glucan$ produced by A. pullulans IMS-822 has a highly ordered hydrogen-bond dependent conformation in aqueous solution, which collapses in strong alkaline solution.
The crystal structure of dehydrated $Rb^+$-exchanged zeolite X, stoichiometry $Rb_{71}Na_{21}-X\; (Rb_{71}Na_{21}Si_{100}Al_{92}O_{384})$ per unit cell, has been determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction date gathered by counter methods. The structure was solved and refined in the cubic space group Fd3, a=25.007(3) Å at 21(1) ℃. The crystal was prepared by ion exchange in a flowing stream using a 0.05 M aqueous RbOH solution (pH=12.7). The crystal was then dehydrated at 360 ℃ and $2{\times}10^{-6}$ torr for two days. The structure was refined to the final error indices, $R_1=0.047$ and $R_2=0.040$ with 239 reflections for which I> 3σ(I). In this structure, 71 $Rb^+$ ions per unit cell are found at six different crystallographic sites and 21 $Na^+$ ions per unit cell are found at two different crystallographic sites. Four and a half $Rb^+$ ions are located at site Ⅰ, the center of the hexagonal prism. Nine $Rb^+$ ions are found at site Ⅰ' in the sodalite cavity (Rb-O=2.910(15) Å and O-Rb-O=78.1(4)°). Eighteen $Rb^+$ ions are found at site Ⅱ in the supercage (Rb-O=2.789(9) Å and O-Rb-O=92.1(4)°). Two and a half $Rb^+$ ions, which lie at site Ⅱ', are recessed ca. 2.07 Å into the sodalite cavity from their three O(2) oxygen planes (Rb-O=3.105(37) Å and O-Rb-O=80.6(5)°). Thirty-two $Rb^+$ ions are found at site Ⅲ deep in the supercage (Rb-O=2.918(12) Å and O-Rb-O=71.9(4)°), and five $Rb^+$ ions are found at site Ⅲ'. Seven $Na^+$ ions also lie at site Ⅰ. Fourteen $Na^+$ ions are found at site Ⅱ in the supercage (Na-O=2.350(19) Å and O-Na-O=117.5(6)°).

Mg and its alloys have been of great interest because of their low density of 1.7, 30% lighter than Al, but their wide applications have been limited because of their poor resistances against corrosion and/or abrasion. Corrosion resistance of Mg alloys can be improved by formation of anodic films using anodic oxidation method in aqueous electrolytes. Plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) is one of anodic oxidation methods by which hard anodic films can be formed as a result of micro-arc generation under high electric field. PEO method utilize not only substrate elements but also chemical components in electrolytes to form anodic films on Mg alloys. PEO films formed on AM50 magnesium alloy in an acidic fluozirconate electrolyte were observed to consist of mainly $ZrO_2$ and $MgF_2$. Liu et al reported that PEO coating on AM30 Mg alloy consists of $MgF_2$-rich outer porous layer and an MgO-rich dense inner layer. PEO films prepared on ACM522 Mg die-casting alloy in an aqueous phosphate solution were also reported to be composed of monoclinic $Mg_3(PO_4)_2$. $CeO_2$-incorporated PEO coatings were also reported to be formed on AZ31 Mg alloys in $CeO_2$ particle-containing $Na_2SiO_3$-based electrolytes. Magnesium tin hydroxide ($MgSn(OH)_6$) was also produced on AZ91D alloy by PEO process in stannate-containing electrolyte. Effects of $OH^-$, $F^-$, $PO{_4}^{3-}$ and $SiO{_3}^{2-}$ ions and alloying elements of Al and Sn on the formation of PEO films on pure Mg and Mg alloys and their protective properties against corrosion have been investigated in this work. $PO{_4}^{3-}$, $F^-$ and $SiO{_3}^{2-}$ ions were observed to contribute to the formation of PEO films but $OH^-$ ions were found to break down the surface films under high electric field. The effect of pulse current on the formation of PEO films will be also reported.
