The present paper deals with the results of the experiments, in which the resistibility to NaCl in whole develomental stages is examined by the emergence rate and the effects of NaCl on the SD action in Drosophila melanogaster. The four SD strains and one mutant strain(cn bw)are used and NaCl media are prepared y adding NaCl at a concentration of 1.0M, 0.7M, 0.5M, 0.3M, 0.1M, and 0.0M to the standard media for the present investigations. The results are given below. 1. The emergence rate (resistibility to NaCl) is not significantly different among strains but strikingly different among concentrations of NaCl. 2. The emergence rate decreases as the concentration of NaCl increases; the four SD strains are considerably resistible to the NaCl from a concentration of 0.0M to 0.3M but are susceptible from 0.5M or higher concentrations of NaCl. 3. No eggs are hatched from the culture media containing a concentration of 1.0M NaCl. This suggests that the SD strains are not resistible to NaCl at a concentrations of 1.0M or higher. 4. The difference in k values is not signficant among strains and also among concentrations of NaCl. Thus the SD action is not affected as far as once emerged from the culture media whether containing NaCl or not.

This paper was studied on the crevice corrosion behavior of SS 400 in marine environment. In 0%, 2%, 3.5%, 5% NaCl solution, the aspect of the crevice corrosion and polarization behavior under the crevice corrosion was investigated. And Weight loss rate of SS 400 with crevice and non-crevice was measured according to the NaCl concentration. The main results obtained are as follows : 1) Under crevice corrosion, the corrosion potential become less noble as the concentration of NaCl solution increased. 2) The current density under open circuit potential was high drained as concentration of NaCl solution increased by 3.5% but the concentration increased over 3.5%, the current density was low drained. 3) The weight loss rate of SS400 was increased as concentration of NaCl solution increased by 3.5% but the concentration increased over 3.5%, that of SS400 was decreased.
This experiment was conducted to elucidate the salt tolerance mechanism of crop plants. Plants used in this experiment were rye, barley, Italian ryegrass. Seeds were treated at saline condition and the saline conditions were controlled by NaCl. The results were summerized as follows. In rye, germination ratio and speed were above 90% and 80% at NaCl concentrations below 0.5% but germination ratio was seriously decreased at NaCl concentration above 0.6%. In barley germination ratio was not less than 80% at NaCl concentration below 0.8%. In italian rye grass germination ratio was decreased gradually by increasing NaCl concentration but germination speed was seriously decreased at NaCl concentration above 0.6% as not more than 7.5%. Water absorption rate was low in barley than rye and it was decreased by increasing NaCl concentration and duration of absorption. In barley, carbohydrate content was decreased slightly in response to increased NaCl concentration and content of reducing sugar was independent of NaCl concentration. In rye, reducing sugar content was increased until 0.3% of NaCl and increased seriously after 20 hours. $\beta-Amylase activity was high at control and 0.6% lot of NaCl, but it was not general tendency.
The analysis of biochemical changes in tobacco plant as increase of NaCl concentraion was conducted. Total protein content and soluble protein content were decreased as NaCl concentration was increased, in that steady decreased until 120mM NaCl and largely decreased at 150mM NaCl. The expression of 74Kd subunit was increased until 60mM NaCl. However, the amount of 74Kd protein was decreased from 90mM NaCl. There was no difference for expression of other protein subunits. Chlorophyll a content was significantly decrease as NaCl concentration was increased, but chlorophyll b content was not much decreased. The slow increase up to 120mM NaCl and large increase at 150mM NaCl for ATPase and peroxidase activities indicated that 120mM NaCl could be a limiting concentration for salt injury.
The physiological and photochemical responses of rice seedling to NaCl stress were investigated through measuring leaf relative water content (RWC), root water uptake and chlorophyll fluorescence. When plants were exposed to increased salinity stress, the visual symptoms of injury were significant at ${\geq}$500 mM NaCl concentration for 4 and 5 day stress periods. The differences in Fv/Fm between control treatment and plants treated with 500 mM and 1,000 mM NaCl were evident after 5 day and 4 day, respectively, whereas in root water uptake its effect was observed at 500 mM and 1,000 mM NaCl at 2 day of salt-stressed periods. Leaf RWC in salt-stressed plants decreased gradually with increasing salinity in exogenous solution and duration of salt stress, and these decrease showed leaf RWC of 58-68% atduration over 2 day stress of 1,000 mM NaCl treatment and 88% at 1 day stress. NaCl stress led to a significant inhibition of the light-induced greening in etiolated rice plants, especially in 4 and 5 day salt-stressed plants, which linearly decreased with NaCl concentration ($R^2$=0.812 and 0.918, respectively). The effects of NaCl stress in rice seedlings indicate that water uptake in root is more sensitive to increasing NaCl concentration and stress duration than Fv /Fm in leaves compared with the same NaCl concentration.

The purpose of this study is to investigate influence of NaCl precisely in recycling process of food waste and in places where food waste compost is used, because NaCl with food waste has caused concerns of adverse effects in the process of food waste recycling and in plates where final products is used. The influence of NaCl in composting was measured through temperature, concentration of carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) and pH. NaCl didn't cause bad effects until 1%(wet base) of NaCl concentration for composting, showed adverse effects gradually at 2% and 3% and affected composting deeply at 6%. The influence of NaCl in composting was insignificant until 3% of NaCl concentration but decomposing efficiency of organic compounds was interfered with more than 3%. NaCl concentration has to be maintained less than 1%(wet base) to minimize adverse effects of NaCl in composting however NaCl concentration with food waste used in real composting facilities is so lower than 1 %(wet base) that the bad influence in food waste composting is slight. Compost(final product) was collected from real food waste recycling facilities in A city, S city, K-Gu and S-Gu and controlled NaCl concentration artificially such as 0.5%, 0.8%, 1.2%, 1.6%, 2.0%, 2.5% and 3.0% to investigate influence of NaCl on growth of plants. In results of plant test and pot experiment, according to quality of compost sampled, the influence of NaCl is insufficient until 3% and bad effects appeared clearly more than 3%. The bad effects showed less than 3% because compost sampled was not stabilized fully.

This study was conducted to investigate the negative physiological impact of saline to roadside trees and to assess the physio-biochemical tolerant characters of woody plants against salinity. Two-year-old Zelkova serrata seedlings treated with 0, 3, 14, 56, and 112 mM NaCl were measured for root collar diameter and cambial electric resistance (as an indication of vitality) and analyzed for carbohydrate and mineral content in the leaves. Z. serrata was affected by NaCl treatments. The vitality of Z. serrata decreased with an increase in NaCl concentration, and the NaCl treatment resulted in nutrient imbalance shown by changes of ion concentration in the tissues. However, relative growth rate for diameter and carbohydrate metabolism in the leaves were not greatly influenced by NaCl treatment. Short-term treatment or low NaCl concentration may not have an observed impact on growth. Nevertheless, roadside trees exposed to saline during the long term would likely show negative effects for growth performance from altered ion concentrations.

An experimental study has been carried out in order to investigate on a particle deposition on a circular cylinder surface. The present study is focused on the particulate fouling occurring in a heat exchanger for a seawater desalinization, in a laminar flow over circular cylindrical tubes. The objective is to investigate how NaCl concentration influences the $SiO2$ particle deposition on the surface of a glass circular cylinder. The NaCl concentration was changed from 0 g/L to 40 g/L. As the experimental results of $SiO2$ particle which is deposited on the glass circular cylinder surface showed, particle deposition rate per unit time increases rapidly with the increase of NaCl concentration between 0 g/L and 15 g/L. After the maximum of particle deposition rate was found at the NaCl concentration of 15 g/L, particle deposition rate remains unchanged or decreases gradually with the NaCl concentration from 15 g/L to 40 g/L. Also the $SiO2$ deposition rate of particles does not have serious variations with the position at present glass surface.
The purpose of this study was to measure concentrations of $K^+$, $Na^+$, $Cl^-$ by ionometer with check salt strip, simple salimeter and Ion-selective electrode (ISE) and compare the results of each mensuration; furthermore, the possibility of inferring the $Na^+$ concentration from $Cl^-$ concentration of urine and the impact of $K^+$ on the concentration of each ion was examined. The results showed that ISE determined $Na^+$ and $Cl^-$ concentrations in the urine are highly interrelated (R=0.9039); in addition, concentrations of $Cl^-$, measured with strip and ISE from urine are highly interrelated (R=0.9338). The concentration of $Na^+$ in urine, inferred by measuring $Cl^-$ concentration with strip, has a high relationship (R=0.8580) with the concentration of $Na^+$ in urine, measured by ISE. The results of our study will increase awareness of $Na^+$ intake and the utility of check salt strip, as well as the possibility of inferred $Na^+$ concentration from measures of $Cl^-$ concentration as a screening test for reducing sodium intake.
The salt stress at seedling stage of barley was examined in different concentrations of NaCl containing 1/2 Hoagland solution. Among the physiological factors electric conductivity and sodium content of cell sap outflow solution were increased according to the in-crease of NaCl concentration in 1/2 Hoagland solution but the total protein content of root cell sap outflow solution was decreased. Changing pattern of amino acids content in plant was divided into 3 groups which were increased, decreased or unchanged by NaCl concentration in solution. In normal condition, sugar content in plant was higher than potassium or sodium but if NaCl was added more than 25mM in 1/2 Hoagland solution, sodium was the highest. Potassium content in shoot was decreased as 67% of control at 100mM of NaCl containing solution and in root it was decreased as 8%. Sum of the potassium and sodium content in shoot was seriously increased in accordant with NaCl concentration in culture solution, but in root it was gradually decreased. Chlorophyll content per g fresh weight and photosynthetic ability per $\textrm{cm}^2$ in first leaf were not affected by NaCl concentration of 1/2 Hoagland solution but root activity was slightly decreased compared to control.
