  • this paper deals with the initial magnetic field decay for a large scale superconducting magnet e.g. NMR/MRI magnet. The high resolution image can not be obained during the periods of the initial field decay. It is known that all superconducting materials have the property of diamagnetism. This diamagnetism is usually explained with the concept of screening current. We assumed that the existence of the screening currebt. we assumed that the existence of the screening current makes the current distribution in the superconducting wire non-uniform. And the initial magnetic field decay is caused steady current state in the view of its pattern. The initial magnetic field decay is caused by the change of the current distribution between the energizing state and persistent current mode. in this paper the theoretical analysis for the current distributions has been introduced for each state. The experiments have been carried out to verify transport currents in order to veperiments, it small at the higher transport current.

  • Persistent Current Switch (PCS) is used in many superconducting magnet system. To apply the high-Tc superconductor in superconducting machine such as motor, generator, MAGLEV, MRI and NMR, the study on the persistent current mode should be performed. Because persistent current mode provide best stability and homogeneous characteristics to the superconducting machine. To stabilize the superconductor system, it is important to estimate the length of PCS. If the proper length of PCS is too short, it cause serious injury to system in fault state. So we calculated the optimal length of PCS in this paper.

  • Purpose: We achieved high resolution MR imaging and spectra of human skin in vitro with using a 14.1 T MRI/MRS system, and evaluated the hydration effect of various cosmetic products by measuring the skin's. moisture concentration. Materials and Methods: We used the Bruker 14.1 T MRI/MRS system with a vertical standard bore that was equipped with a DMX spectrometer gradient system (200 G/cm at a maximum 40 A), RF resonators (2, 5 and 10 mm) and Para Vision software. Spin echo and fast spin echo pulse sequences were employed for obtaining the high resolution MR images. The 3D-localized point resolved spectroscopy (PRESS) method was used to acquire the MR spectra. Results: The high resolution MR images and spectra of human skin in vitro were successfully obtained on a 14.1 T system. The water concentration of human skin after applying a moisturizer was higher than that before applying a moisturizer. Conclusions: The present study demonstrated that the high-resolution MR images and spectra of human skin from a high field NMR instrument could be applicable to evaluating the hydration state of the stratum corneum.

  • Purpose : By using the micro-imaging unit modified from NMR spectrometer, the high resolution MRI protocols of finer than 100 micron in 5 minutes, is sought for mouse, which plays a central role in animal studies Materials and Methods : C57BL/6 mouse, lighter than 50 gram, is used for the experiments. The superconducting magnet is vertical type with 89 mm inner diameter at 4.9 Tesla. The diameter of rf-coil is 30 mm. Mostly used techniques are the fast spin echo and the gradient echo pulse sequence. Results : For 2D images, proton density and T2 weighted images are obtained and their optimum experimental variables were sought. Minute structure of mouse brain can be recognized and 3D brain image is also obtained additionally. 3D image will be useful particularly for the dynamic contrast study using various contrast agents. Conclusion : Like the case of human and other small animals, the high resolution of mouse brain is enough to recognize the minute structure of it. Recently, similar studies are reported domestically, but it seems only a beginning stage. Due to easiness of breeding/control, mouse MRI study will soon play a vital part in brain study.

  • After proving home-made imaging pulse sequences including tailored RF pulse by phantom, susceptibility-contrast-enhanced MR venograms of cat brain were obtained using tailored RF gradient-echo(TRGE) method. Sagittal MR imaging of the cat brain obtained by TRGE technique shows several veins, for example, dorsal sagittal sinus, straight sinus, vein of corpus callosum and internal cerebral vein, etc., compared with cats anatomical figure. Tailored RF waveform was generated by PASCAL language in ASPECT 3000 computer(Switzland, Bruker). Rectangular-shaped slice profile with bi-linear ramp function as phase distribution in the slice, at which maximum value was 2$\pi$, was fourier transformed to make tailored RF pulse. Experimental MR imaging parameters were TR/TE=205/10 msec, slice thickness TH=7mm, maxtrix size=256$\times$256, in-plane resolution=0.62$\times$0.31mm$^2$, and field of view(FOV)=8cm for both conventional gradient-echo(GE) imaging and TRGE imaging techniques.

  • Persistent current switch (PCS) system in NMR, MRI, MAGLEV and SMES has many advantages, such as uniformity and durability of magnetic field and reducing a thermal loss, which enable many superconducting application to operate effectively. This paper deals with fabrication and test of heater trigger persistent current switch using coated conductor (CC) which has high n-index, critical current independency from external magnetic field and adaptable selectivity of stabilizer. PCS system consists of magnet power supply for energizing current to a magnet, heater, switch and magnet using coated conductor tape. Finite element method (FEM) is used to simulate thermal quench (switching) characteristic and design heater trigger. With FEM simulation, optimal length of heater is calculated by temperature and time analysis. Fabrication of PCS system and test of heater trigger characteristic were performed and compared with simulation result. This paper would be the foundation of researches of superconducting switching application.

  • The high temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet has been developed for the high magnetic field applications such as NMR, MRI and other industrial machinery. In designing process of these HTS magnets, the accurate estimation on the critical current (Ic) is essential to predict and secure the electromagnetic performance. The critical current of 2G HTS tape has anisotropic Ic degradation characteristics with the application of magnetic field - angular dependency of critical current. It is known that the perpendicular magnetic field to the face of HTS tape makes dominant degradation on the critical current for conventional 2G HTS tape. However, recently developed 2G HTS tape has more complex characteristics due to the artificial pinning center. Therefore, the method for Ic estimation reflecting such characteristics of 2G HTS tape needs to be devised. The method considering the angular dependency is introduced in this paper. And the result of newly devised method is compared with that of previous method.

  • In this paper, the design, fabrication and test of inside notched superconducting coil are described. The inside notched coil is one of the basic configurations, producing homogeneous magnetic field. This magnet is a primitive version of MRI or NMR magnet in Korea Electromagnetic Research Institute. To test the magnetic field distribution inside the magnet, a X-Z scanner was made and the homogeneity was about $1.8{\times}10^{-3}$in 5 cm dsv (Diameter of Spherical Volume).
