The NAUT(Non contact Air coupled Ultrasonic Testing) is one of the ultrasonic wave inspection methods. It compensates High power ultrasound Pulser Receiver, pre-amp, air probe of high sensitivity in air to generate loss energy by NAUT methods. Generally, in case of ultrasound inspection, it applies contact methods by using couplant. However it can inspect of UT without couplant by this NAUT. The ultrasound transmission reception is composed in stable condition in NAUT. It can inspect high low material or the specimen of rough part, the narrow spot, too. The spot welding is applying the inosculation of automobile component, car body, all boards. The CFRP is necessity of NDE because of the solidity changes material according to lamella tearing. Therefore it checked on realization whether and commercialization in the spot welding and CFRP inspection that the NAUT would be applied them.
Terahertz waves (T-ray) was extensively studied for the NDE (nondestructive evaluation) of characterization of trailing edges for a use of turbines composed with composite materials. The used NDE system were consisted of both CW(Continuous wave) and TDS (Time domain spectroscopy). The FRP composites were utilized for two kinds of both trailing edges of wind energy (non-conducting polymeric composites) and carbon fiber composites with conducting properties. The signals of T-ray in the TDS (Time domain spectroscopy) mode resembles almost that of ultrasound waves; however, a terahertz pulse could not penetrate a material with conductivity unlike ultrasound. Also, a method was suggested to obtain the "n" in the materials, which is called the refractive index (n). The data of refractive index (n) could be solved for the trailing edges. The trailing edges were scanned for characterization and inspection. C-scan and B-scan images were obtained and best optimal NDE techniques were suggested for complicated geometry samples by terahertz radiation. Especially, it is found that the defect image of T-ray corresponded with defect locations for the trailing edges of wind mill.

One of the main causes of a limited use of nondestructive evaluation (NDE) technologies in bridge deck assessment is the speed of data collection and analysis. The paper describes development and implementation of the RABIT (Robotics Assisted Bridge Inspection Tool) for data collection using multiple NDE technologies. The system is designed to characterize three most common deterioration types in concrete bridge decks: rebar corrosion, delamination, and concrete degradation. It implements four NDE technologies: electrical resistivity (ER), impact echo (IE), ground-penetrating radar (GPR), and ultrasonic surface waves (USW) method. The technologies are used in a complementary way to enhance the interpretation. In addition, the system utilizes advanced vision to complement traditional visual inspection. Finally, the RABIT collects data at a significantly higher speed than it is done using traditional NDE equipment. The robotic system is complemented by an advanced data interpretation. The associated platform for the enhanced interpretation of condition assessment in concrete bridge decks utilizes data integration, fusion, and deterioration and defect visualization. This paper concentrates on the validation and field implementation of two NDE technologies. The first one is IE used in the delamination detection and characterization, while the second one is the USW method used in the assessment of concrete quality. The validation of performance of the two methods was conducted on a 9 m long and 3.6 m wide fabricated bridge structure with numerous artificial defects embedded in the deck.
Rail inspection is very important as damages in rail can bring about a serious railway accident. In this paper, several real-time non-destructive technologies applied or considered to be applied to damage detection of rails are described. Some limits of existing ultrasonic testing method which has been widely used for rail inspection are discussed. Non-contact type NDE methods for rail inspection and their technical problems are also described.
Image processing has provided powerful techniques to extract from the acoustic signals the desired information on evaluation for leakage existence, leakage rate, and searching for leakage location, etc. The imagery NDE data available can add additional and significant dimension in nondestructive evaluation(NDE) information and thus for exploiting in applications. To extract such information the use of advanced image processing techniques is much needed. In recent years, there has been much increased use of acoustic signal image processing techniques in acoustic NDE. This approach will increase the efficiency of inspection procedures and reduce inspection time. In this paper we are concerned only with This paper is concerned mainly with the use of advanced image processing techniques in valve leakage detection and advanced image restoration and enhancement methods, which attempt to evaluate promptly by a visualization method the acoustic sources while detecting the valve leakage.
The safety-evaluation of ancient wood structures has been executed with only visual inspection. The application of NDE(nondestructive evaluation) is required because the visual inspection has many restrictions. Among many NDE techniques, the stress wave technique was used in this research. This study focused on evaluating the extent of decay in members of ancient structures, using stress wave nondestructive technique. For application of stress wave technique to ancient structures, the threshold time which divides members into categories according to degree of decay should be determined in advance. Stress wave timer (Metriguard Model 239A) was used in this study, specimens used in this research were the members obtained from six ancient structures. All specimens were identified as Hard Pine(Pinus densiflora S. et Z. or Pinus thunbergii P.) by microscope. Each member was tested with stress wave passing radially through the pith. In this study, the stress wave time of $12{\mu}s$/cm could distinguish between sound and decayed specimens with accuracy of 77.5 percent. Also, decayed specimens could be separated into moderate and severe categories by stress wave time of $20{\mu}s$/cm. Among the three decay location groups (exterior, mixed, interior), the exterior group could be classified into sound, moderate and severe decay with the greatest accuracy. Stress wave transit time was not sensitive to small decay pockets located in interior of the member.

NDE(Nondestructive examination) detects a flaw or discontinuity in materials. Flaws detected by the pre-service or in-service examinations shall be sized for the purpose of analysis and repair. A flaw that is initiated from the surface is difficult to determine its depth by NDE. The depth of the surface flaw can be measured using an ultrasonic diffracted wave. To find the optimum standard for ultrasonic parameter(For example, frequency & size of transducer), a mock-up test and simulation were established and studied. This inspection technology may show the depth sizing possibility of the flaw down to nearly two(2) mm.

The 3-dimensional measuring machine by using an ultrasonic sensor is used one of the NDE(Nondestructive Examination). It is applied to the inspection of pipelines, boreholes, pressure vessel and tank, and so on. In particular when a harsh environment prohibits the use of moving mechanical parts. The 3-dimensional measuring machine by using an ultrasonic sensor, which measure 1-dimensional information and 2-dimensional information simultaneously from a target of inspection, and then reembody 3-dimensional information. So we can find the situation in progress and predict remaining life and corrosion without destructive examination. It's a point of excellence that the 3-dimensional measuring machine is portable.

Ultrasonic inspection methods are widely used for detecting flaws in materials. One of the more popular methods involves the extraction of an appropriate set of features followed by the use of a neural network for the classification of the signals in the feature space. This paper describes an approach which uses LMS method to determine the coordinates of the ultrasonic probe followed by the use of SAFT to estimate the location of the ultrasonic reflector The method is employed for classifying NDE signals from the steam generator tubes in a nuclear power plant. The classification results using this scheme for the ultrasonic signals from cracks and deposits within steam generator tubes are presented.

After several PWSCCs were found in Bugey(France), Ringhals(Sweden), Tihange(Belgium), Oconee, Arkansas, Crystal Fever, Davis-Basse, VC Summer(U.S.A.), Thuruga(Japan), USNRC and PNNL started the research on PWSCC, that is, the PINC project. USNRC required KINS to participate in the PINC project in May 2005. KINS organized the Korean consortium at March 2006 and Pre-RRT for RVHP were performed for the preparation of PINC RRT. Through these preliminary RRT, Korea NDE teams can learn and develop the detection and sizing technique for RVHP dissimilar metal weld. These techniques are now being prepared in Korea and need to be utilized for the In-service inspection of the RVHP and BMI of Korea Nuclear Power Plants. PINC RRT mock-ups will be helpful to training.
