  • The paper discusses new approach for machining operation simulation using enhanced Z map algorithm. To extract the required geometric information from NC code, suggested algorithm uses supersampling method to enhance the efficiency of a simulation process. By executing redundant Boolean operations in a grid cell and averaging down calculated data, presented algorithm can accurately represent material removal volume though tool swept volume is negligibly small. Supersampling method is the most common form of antialiasing and usually used with polygon mesh rendering in computer graphics. The key advantage of enhanced Z map model is that the data structure is same with conventional Z map model, though it can acquire higher accuracy and reliability with same or lower computation time. By simulating machining operation efficiently, this system can be used to improve the reliability and efficiency of NC machining process as well as the quality of the final product.

  • Traditionally, programs for NC machine tools have been created using either a maunual method or a computer-assisted method. However, both methods are known to be complex, time-consuming and error-prone. This paper presents an intelligent system, called "INPPC" which is interfaced with a CAD system to generate APT NC part program automatically. The INPPC is developed by using VP-Expert rule-based expert system development tool, and obtains the information about the part shape by searching the CAD database, about the process by asking the related questions to the user, and about the machine tooling by searching the tool database. The INPPC is implemented on an IBM compatible PC/AT under MS-DOS, and its performance is demonstrated by consulting a simple example problem.

  • This paper deliberates for a multimedia transmission scheme combining multiple description coding (MDC) and network coding (NC). Our goal is to take advantage from the property of MDC to provide quantized and compressed independent and identically distributed (iid) descriptions and also from the benefit of network coding, which uses network resources efficiently to recover lost data in the network. Recently, p-cycle NC has been introduced to recover and protect any lost or distorted descriptions at the receiver part exactly without need of retransmission. So far, MDC have not been explored using this type of NC. Compressed and coded descriptions are transmitted through the network where p-cycle NC is applied. P-cycle based algorithm is proposed for single and multiple descriptions lost. Results show that in the fixed bit rate, the PSNR (Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) of our reconstructed image and also subjective evaluation is improved significantly compared to previous work which is averaging method joint with MDC in order to conceal lost descriptions.

  • In this paper, a methodology of geometrical error identification and compensation for NC machine tool position is developed. We propose a reference artifact with measuring the geometry of coordinate system for compensating linear scale error of NC machine. The coordinate system of the NC machine could be compensated successfully with the information obtained by measuring the reference artifact and our compensation algorithm. Monte Carlo simulation is used to evaluate coordinate referencing ability and, the uncertainties of the machine tool position is estimated and observed through the compensation process by simulation.

  • We are living in networks which are regarded as a society. However, it is difficult to designate a specific position or the impact over sociological relationships and virtual links. In this paper, we conceptualize two themes of the network as Physical Network and Virtual Network, and observe their cross-network effects. New concept called Networked Community (NC) is then introduced to walk through both PN and VN by using the element of connections say connectivity feature. Through modeling NC by the theme of network transposition and egocentric network, we try to comprehend all possible networks for detecting the problems and solutions by using both sides' idea. Experimental results show that we can model real-world problems and then analyze them through NC by measurable and structural manner.

  • This study was conducted to obtain the breeding information for the leaf breakdown, and correlation coefficients between leaf breakdown and some agronomic characters in flue-cured tobacco at Taegu Experiment Station, Korea Ginseng & Tobacco Research Institute. NC 95 and NC 2326 were used as parents. The bulk method procedure was used from the F2 to the F4 generations, 54 plants were selected among F4, and 11 lines were selected among 54 F5 which based on high resistance to bacterial wilt compared with NC2326. The entries were composed of parents and 11 F6 advanced lines, and designed in randomized block with 3 replications. Plant seedlings were transplanted in 16 April. The number of breakdown leaf were investigated at flowering stage, 18 June. There were significant difference between NC 95 and NC 2326 for the number of breakdown leaf, number and weight of ground suckers, days to flower, yield and resistance to bacterial wilt, and similar results were appeared among lines. Estimated heritability in the broad-sense ranged from 59.3% to 87.4% for all characters. Most of genetic correlations were higher than phenotypic coefficients between characters. Number of breakdown leaf was positively correlated with days to flower, the number and weight of ground suckers, while it was negative to yield. One line among 11 had few breakdown leaf, low producted ground suckers and high resistance to bacterial wilt. Above results suggest that the number and weight of ground suckers can be use as a selection criterion for leaf breakdown even under the condition without leaf breakdown.

  • This study was conducted to obtain basic information for varietal difference of leaf breakdown in field of flue-cured tobacco at Taegu Experiment Station, Korea Ginseng & Tobacco Research Institute in 1987. The experiment was designed in randomized block with 3 replications, data ware analysed as Split split-plot design. Main plots were varieties, sub-plots were leaf positions, 4, 5 and 6th from bottom, and each sub-plot was divided into 3 parts with distance of midrib, 7 10 and 13em from stalk. Four varieties, NC 95, NC 2326, NC 82 and BY 4 were transplanted in 15 April, and measured the weight of leaf breakdown by artificially weighted in 5 June. The results obtained are as follows : 1. Weights of leaf breakdown according to leaf position, NC 95 were lower as 358-5799 than those of other varieties as 555-597g, were not significantly different regardless of varieties. 2. Weights of leaf breakdown in relation to distance of midrib from stack, NC 95 were lower as 309-419g than those of other varieties as 472-710g. 3. Weights of leaf breakdown were significantly different according to distance of midrib from stalk, and not significantly different according to leaf position under the same distance of midrib from stalk regardless of varieties.
