  • We deal with the Cauchy problem for the space-time fractional diffusion equation, which is obtained from standard diffusion equation by replacing the second-order space derivative with a Caputo (or Riemann-Liouville) derivative of order ${\beta}{\in}$ (0, 2] and the first-order time derivative with Caputo derivative of order ${\beta}{\in}$ (0, 1]. The fundamental solution (Green function) for the Cauchy problem is investigated with respect to its scaling and similarity properties, starting from its Fourier-Laplace representation. We derive explicit expression of the Green function. The Green function also can be interpreted as a spatial probability density function evolving in time. We further explain the similarity property by discussing the scale-invariance of the space-time fractional diffusion equation.

  • The problem of interaction of surface water waves by small undulation at the bottom of a laterally unbounded sea is treated on the basis of linear water wave theory for both normal and oblique incidences. Perturbation analysis is employed to obtain the first order corrections to the reflection and transmission coefficients in terms of integrals involving the shape function c(x) representing the bottom undulation. Fourier transform method and residue theorem are applied to obtain these coefficients. As an example, a patch of sinusoidal ripples is considered in both the cases as the shape function. The principal conclusion is that the reflection coefficient is oscillatory in the ratio of twice the surface wave number to the wave number of the ripples. In particular, there is a Bragg resonance between the surface waves and the ripples, which is associated with high reflection of incident wave energy. The theoretical observations are validated computationally.

  • A space-time fractional advection-dispersion equation (ADE) is a generalization of the classical ADE in which the first-order time derivative is replaced with Caputo derivative of order $\alpha{\in}(0,1]$, and the second-order space derivative is replaced with a Riesz-Feller derivative of order $\beta{\in}0,2]$. We derive the solution of its Cauchy problem in terms of the Green functions and the representations of the Green function by applying its Fourier-Laplace transforms. The Green function also can be interpreted as a spatial probability density function (pdf) evolving in time. We do the same on another kind of space-time fractional advection-dispersion equation whose space and time derivatives both replacing with Caputo derivatives.

  • The paper deals with the solution of some fractional partial differential equations obtained by substituting modified Riemann-Liouville derivatives for the customary derivatives. This derivative is introduced to avoid using the so-called Caputo fractional derivative which, at the extreme, says that, if you want to get the first derivative of a function you must before have at hand its second derivative. Firstly, one gives a brief background on the fractional Taylor series of nondifferentiable functions and its consequence on the derivative chain rule. Then one considers linear fractional partial differential equations with constant coefficients, and one shows how, in some instances, one can obtain their solutions on bypassing the use of Fourier transform and/or Laplace transform. Later one develops a Lagrange method via characteristics for some linear fractional differential equations with nonconstant coefficients, and involving fractional derivatives of only one order. The key is the fractional Taylor series of non differentiable function $f(x+h)=E_{\alpha}(h^{\alpha}{D_x^{\alpha})f(x)$.

  • This paper introduces wavelets and shows that they may be efficient and useful for the detection of general faults in power system. The wavelet transform of a signal consists in measuring the "similarity" between the signal and a set of translated and scaled versions of a "mother wavelet". The "mother wavelet" is a chosen fast decaying oscillation function. A number of mother wavelet for signal analysis have been proposed and some of them are in use in fault detection. However, the performance of fault detection depend on used mother wavelet. In the present paper a comparative evaluation of different mother wavelets for low impedance fault detection is performed. The discussion is focused in well-known mother wavelet based wavelet transform. Several families of wavelets are used to analyse transient earth fault signals in a 345kV model system as generated by EMTP.

  • This paper aims to make an artificial arm control strategy. For this, we propose a new feature extraction method and design artificial neural network for the functional classification of myoelectric signal(MES). We first transform the two channel myoelectric signals (MES) for biceps and triceps into frequency domain using fast Fourier transform (FFT). And features were obtained by comparing the magnitudes of ensemble spectrum data and used as inputs to the three-layer neural network for the learning. By changing the number of units in hidden layer of neural network we observed the improvement of classification performance. To observe the effeciency of the proposed scheme we performed experiments for classification of six arm functions to the three subjects. And we obtained on average 94[%] the ratio of classification.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new coding technique of digital hologram video using 3D scanning method and video compression technique. The proposed coding consists of capturing a digital hologram to separate into RGB color space components, localization by segmenting the fringe pattern, frequency transform using $M{\tiems}N$ (segment size) 2D DCT (2 Dimensional Discrete Cosine Transform) for extracting redundancy, 3D scan of segment to form a video sequence, motion compensated temporal filtering (MCTF) and modified video coding which uses H.264/AVC.

  • This paper presents a fuzzy system that adaptively classifies subimages to four classes according to image activity distribution. In adaptive transform image coding, subimage classification improves the compression performance by assigning different bit maps to different classes. A conventional classification method sorts subimages by their AC energy and divides them to classes with equal number of subimages. The fuzzy system provides more flexible classification to natural images with various distribution of image details than does the conventional method. Clustering of training data in the input-output product space generated the fuzzy rules for subimage classification. The fuzzy system of small number of fuzzy rules successfully classified subimages to improve the compression performance of the transform image coding without sorting of AC energies.

  • The wavelet transform(WT) has been extensively applied in solving many problems in applied science and engineering following its introduction in early 1980's. The WT analyzes a signal in a changeable frequency range by employing a moving window whereby along time window is used to obtain low frequency information and short time window is used to obtain high frequency information. In this paper, after various fault types in 154 KV transmission system was simulated by using EMTP, and the RMS values by changing Mother wavelet was calculated by applying wavelet transform to the simulated voltage and current signal.
