  • In this paper, we develop detailed algorithms for implementing the so-called Limited Column Generation procedure for Local Access Telecommunication Network(LATN) design problem. We formulate the problem into a tree-partitioning problem with an exponential number of variables. Its linear programming relaxation has all integral vertices, and can be solved by the Limited Column Generation procedure in just n pivots, where n is the number of nodes in the network. Prior to each pivot. an entering variable is selected by detecting the Locally Most Violated(LMV) reduced cost, which can be obtained by solving a subproblem in pseudo-polynomial time. A critical step in the Limited Column Generation is to find all the LMV reduced costs. As dual variables are updated at each pivot, the reduced costs have to be computed in an on-line fashion. An efficient implementation is developed to execute such a task so that the LATN design problem can be solved in O(n$^2$H), where H is the maximum concentrator capacity. Our computational experiments indicate that our algorithm delivers an outstanding performance. For instance, the LATN design problem with n=150 and H=1000 can be solved in approximately 67 seconds on a SUN SPARC 1000 workstation.

  • We have studied the temperature dependence of current-voltage and luminance-voltage characteristics of Organic Light Emitting Diodes(OLEDs). The OLEDS are based on the molecular compounds, N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis(3-methylphenyl)-1,1'-biphenyl-4,4'-diamine (TPD) as a hole transport, tris(8-hydroxyquinolinoline) aluminum(III) (Alq$_3$) as an electron transport, and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) as a buffer layer. The current-voltage and luminance-voltage characteristics were measured in the temperature range of 10[K] and 300[K]. A conduction mechanism in OLEDs has been interpreted in terms of space-charge-limited current(SCLC) and tunneling mechanism.

  • Through dark injection space-charge-limited current (DI-SCLC) and trap-free SCLC measurements, it has been demonstrated that an indium tin oxide (ITO)/buckminsterfullerene ($C_{60}$) electrode can form a quasi-Ohmic contact with N, N'-bis (naphthalen-1-yl)-N, N'-bis(phenyl) benzidine (NPB). The DI-SCLC results show a clear peak current along with a shift of the peak position as the field intensity varies, implying an Ohmic (or quasi-Ohmic) contact. A theoretical simulation of the SCLC also shows that ITO/$C_{60}$ forms an Ohmic contact with NPB. The Ohmic contact makes it possible to estimate the NPB hole mobility through the use of both DI-SCLC and trap-free SCLC analysis. This also contributes to a reduction in power consumption.

  • Temperature-dependent current-voltage characteristics of organic light-emitting diodes(OLEDs) were studied in a device structure of ITO/TPD/$Alq_3$/Al. The OLEDs were based on the molecular compounds, N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis(3-methylphenyl)-l,1'-diphenyl-4,4'-diamine(TPD) as a hole transport and tris(8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum($Alq_3$) as an electron transport and emissive material. The current-voltage characteristics were measured in the temperature range of 10K and 300K. We analyzed an electrical conduction mechanism of the OLEDs using space-charge-limited current(SCLC) and Fowler-Nordheim tunneling.

  • In this paper, we derive the CRLB (Cramer-Rao Lower Bound) of effective carrier-to-noise power ratio ($C/N_0$) estimation for a GPS (Global Positioning System) L1 C/A (Coarse/Acquisition) signal under band-limited white noise jamming environments. The quality of a received GPS signal is commonly described in terms of its $C/N_0$, implying that the noise is white and thus can be described by scalar noise density. However, if some intentional interference is received to a victim GPS receiver, then the $C/N_0$ is no longer the efficacious performance indicator. The correct and straightforward measurement to analyze the receiving situation is the effective $C/N_0$. In this paper, we consider a band-limited white noise jamming whose bandwidth is 2MHz and is the same as one of the first null-to-null bandwidth of the GPS L1 C/A signal.

  • The purpose of this study was to assess the changes in balance and proprioception of adults with limited ankle joint dorsiflexion, after the application of talocrural joint mobilization. The subjects of this study included 23 college students in their twenties with limited ankle joint dorsiflexion. The students were randomly assigned to the ankle joint mobilization group (AJMG, n=12) and the control group (CG, n=11). After 2 weeks of intervention using grade III talocrural joint mobilization in the anterior-posterior movement, the balance and proprioception of the subjects were assessed. Static/dynamic balance capabilities and ankle proprioception were analyzed using paired t-test and independent t-test. The dynamic balance and proprioception of AJMG were significantly improved after intervention (p<.05), In the comparison between the groups after the intervention, the dynamic balance and proprioceptive sense of AJMG were significantly improved compared to the control group (p<.05). This study suggests that AJMG can help improve the dynamic balance and proprioception.

  • In this paper, the limited error tracking problem is investigated for distributed leader-following wireless sensor networks (LFWSNs), where all sensors share data by the local communications, follower sensors are influenced by leader sensors directly or indirectly, but not vice versa, all sensor nodes track a reference state that is determined by the states of all leader sensors, and tracking errors are limited. In a LFWSN, the communicating graph is mainly expressed by some complete subgraphs; if we fix subgraphs that are composed of all leaders while all nodes in complete subgraphs of followers run on the sleeping-awaking method, then the fixed leaders and varying followers topology is obtained, and the switching topology is expressed by a Markov chain. It is supposed that the measurements of all sensors are corrupted by additive noises. Accordingly, the limited error tracking protocol is proposed. Based on the theory of asymptotic boundedness in mean square, it is shown that LFWSN keeps the limited error tracking under the designed protocol.

  • Gallium oxyhydroxide (GaOOH) powders were heat-treated in a flowing ammonia gas to form GaN, and the reaction kinetics of the oxide to nitride was quantitatively determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. GaOOH turned into intermediate mixed phases of $\alpha-\;and\;\beta-Ga_2O_3$, and then single phase of GaN. The reaction time for full conversion $(t_c)$ decreased as the temperature increased. There were two-types of rapid reaction processes with the reaction temperature in the initial stage of nitridation at below $t_c$, and a relatively slow processes followed over $t_c$ does not depends on temperatures. The nitridation process was found to be limited by the rate of an interfacial reaction with the reaction order n value of 1 at $800^{\circ}C$ and by the diffusion-limited reaction with the n of 2 at above $1000^{\circ}C$, respectively, at below $t_c$. The activation energy for the reaction was calculated to be 1.84 eV in the temperature of below $830^{\circ}C$, and decreased to 0.38 eV above $830^{\circ}C$. From the comparative analysis of data, it strongly suggest the rate-controlling step changed from chemical reaction to mass transport above $830^{\circ}C$.

  • An experiment was conducted to provide guidelines for the design a menu on a limited screen space. Printers, facsimiles, copiers, etc. usually employ a small LCD, which provides either 8 or 16 characters to present functions and system status. Menu type, menu structure, and experience in menu structure were manipulated by using a within-subjects experimental design. The results imply that design recommendations for a menu on a limited screen space should be different from those for an ordinary CRT screen.
