  • The purpose of our study was investigation for the status of eye health in Taejon area. I chose the age of eight to under eighteen 61 institutional care children, and I examed the first visual acuity examination ophthalmoscopy and non-criterion interview. Among 61 institutional care children (primary school student 40.98%, secondary school student 59.01%), 56.74% children were emmetropia, 44.46% were ametropia. Unaided visual acuity 0.7, 0.8 were 37.03% of these children. As refractive errors, 31.14% were myopia. 26.23% were compound myopic astigmatism and only 1.64% institutional care children wearing the glasses. In children, early eye examination is essential for their eye health. Therefore attention to early eye examination and wearing correct glasses seem to be very important especially for institutional care children. I propose that we have to concerned about eye health and concrete plan for institutional care children.

  • To investigate the ametropia and refractive error of 222 ametropic eyes of the 111 high school students in Gwangju Metropolitan City, the visual acuity test was performed by the object and subject method. 85% of the eye types were positive for myopia, 14% for emmetropia, and 1% for hyperopia, respectively. 38% of the abnormal refraction eyes were positive for simple myopia, 4% for myopia simple astigmatism, 56% for myopia compound astigmatism, and 0% for simple hyperopia, 0% for hyperopia simple astigmatism, 2% for hyperopia compound astigmatism, 0% for mixed astigmatism, respectively. 92% of the axes fo astigmatism were for astigmatism with-the-rule, 6% for astigmatism against-the rule, 2% for astigmatism oblique, respectively. As for the astigmatic power, 0.50 < cylinder < 1.00D was 68%, 1.00 < cylinder < 2.00D was 25%, and anything over the 2.00 cylinder D was 7%. As for the equivalent spheric power of myopic abnormal refraction eyes, -0.50 < spheric equivalent < -2.00D was 26%, -2.00D < spheric equivalent < -6.00D was 55% and anything over the -6.00D was 19%. The rate of wearing glasses was 74%. It increases compared to 20 years ago. 91% of the eye test place was the optical shop, 9% the eye doctor hospital. 80% of the students need to change their optical lenses because spherical equivalent power was over 0.50D.

  • This study was investigated the refractive state and the analysis of ametropic frequency among schoolchildren who were the three grade in W elementary school in Suwon. Total 488eye (244 persons) were examined by the trial-lens set and the questionary. Through Trial-Lens set verification, several factors related to ametropic frequency were obtained as the following. Among the 244 persons, the students who wear spectacles or need to wear spectacles were 27.3%, among the 27.3% students, the students who have low visual acuity below 0.3 were 6.3%. The ametropia eyes among the total eyes were 27.3%. Among ametropic eyes, myopia and hyperopia were 25.4% and 1.9%. Among the total ametropic errors were low refractive error were 71.4%, and middle refractive error were 28.6%. In ratio myopic frequency, it was statistically related to the refractive errors with the environments factors such as reading distance & habits, T.V watching distance. Among the students belonged to below 0.7 visual acuity, the wear spectacles students were 63.3%. The ratio of anisometropia was 3.4%.
