  • This paper shows the watermarking system that inserts copyright holder's logo in music file. In other words, a sound file is able to have an image information like a logo or letters. The watermarking system converts a sound file into an image file using spectrogram. In the spectrogram domain, a logo is inserted using spread spectrum. The proposed technique shows that the verification of copyright is better than the method using PN-Sequence.

  • The content industries environment has been undergoing significant changes due to rapid technological innovation and content market expansion. Interest in the industry is growing fast both in Asia and Europe. However, in Japan content industries are showing almost zero growth with no increase in overseas expansion. Until now, Japanese content industries have been able to grow based on domestic demands. Many different factors contributed to today's zero growth in Japanese content industries. Two main reasons are: 1) Their lack of interest in overseas expansion and 2) Insufficient investment in domestic human resources development. Considerable amounts of Japanese contents including films, music, games, and animations have been distributed in many Asian countries and today piracy problems in the region are at a serious level. According to 2004 records pirated editions accounted for 85%, 16%, 19%, and 36% in China, Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan respectively. Pirated editions bring economic losses to Japanese copyright profits. Making it worse, they weaken the motivation to create content and make it hard to activate cultural exchanges. Losses from copyright violations in Japanese content industries are expected to keep increasing in the future. In order to make Japan competitive and grow it is crucial to take proper measures to protect copyright infringements. This study considers the current situation of the Japanese content market, infringement issues in content which is causing many problems in Asian countries, including China, and facts about losses caused by this problem.

  • With the advances in Information Technology (IT), users can download or stream copyrighted works, such as videos, music, and webtoons, at their convenience. Thus, the frequency of use of copyrighted works has increased. Consequently, the number of unauthorized copies and sharing of copyrighted works has also increased. Monitoring is being conducted on sites suspected of conducting copyright infringement activities to reduce copyright holders' damage due to unauthorized sharing of copyrighted works. However, suspected copyright infringement sites respond by changing their domains or blocking access requests. Although research has been conducted for improving the effectiveness of suspected copyright infringement site detection by defining suspected copyright infringement sites' response techniques as a lifecycle step, there is a paucity of studies on automation techniques for lifecycle detection. This has reduced the accuracy of lifecycle step detection on suspected copyright infringement sites, which change domains and lifecycle steps in a short period of time. Thus, in this paper, an automated detection technique for suspected copyright infringement sites is proposed for efficient detection and response to suspected copyright infringement sites. Using our proposed technique, the response to each lifecycle step can be effectively conducted by automatically detecting the lifecycle step.

  • In this paper, we propose a watermarking technology for a mixed music. The mixed music means recreated music that contained a number of musics in one audio clip. Royalty associated with the audio content is typically imposed by the full audio content. However, the calculation of royalties gives rise to conflict between copyright holders and users in the mixed music because it uses not full audio content but a fraction of that. To solve the conflict related with the mixed music, we propose a audio watermarking technique that inserts different watermarks for each audio in the audio that make up the mixed music. The proposed watermarking scheme might have poor SNR (signal to noise ratio) to embed to each audio clip. To overcome poor SNR problem, we used inaudible pseudo random sequence which modifies typical pseudo random sequence to canonical signed digit (CSD) form. The proposed method verifies the performance by each watermark extraction and the time internal estimation valies from the mixed music.

  • Digital works such as computer programs, music, photographs, movies and dramas are copyrighted. Even if there were more than 1,000 violations per year for digital works, the punishment was very weak. Especially copyright infringement by teenager is increasing. This study aims to present the direction of future development through questionnaires on the perception and direction of college students about copyright. 157 college students were surveyed about copyright awareness, perception of detailed legal provisions, cost of monthly expenses, copyright violation, and direction of copyright protection. As a result of the questionnaire survey, awareness was high at 69%, but in detailed law was low at 17.2% and 22.3%. In the future direction of copyright policy, 72.6% of them answered that they should be "strengthened" and "more and more strengthened". In order to protect copyrights, enforcement of crackdowns, public relations activities, expansion of the legal market, and technical protection should be done. In order to do this, copyright-related education for elementary, middle, high school and college students are needed more and it is necessary to expand the legal market where high quality contents are traded. More research is needed on copyright protection technological methods.

  • Among human intellectual creations, the right granted by law to what is worth protecting is defined as intellectual property rights. Copyright is a legal right to creative finished products made by individuals, and in recent years, this legal right has been recognized as very important. In other words, copyright is a system created to protect the rights of individuals who created creations and to recognize their efforts. Works subject to copyright vary from poetry, thesis, novels to designs, paintings, music, and architecture, and the scope of the subject is gradually expanding. Recently, research has begun on how far the Metaverse design area absorbed into the real world among works. Computer-generated video productions and software program works are also subject to digital copyright protection, but it is also true that the interpretation of the author protection law for works, designs, and trademarks in the virtual world is unclear. This study aims to analyze copyrights based on case studies and theoretical backgrounds on copyright protection and to discuss the protection limitations of Metaverse design in the virtual world. In other words, the direction for the protection of Metaverse design is presented through clear distinction and definition of copyright protection in the tertiary virtual world. This study aims to present methods for design copyright protection in the era of Metaverse, respect copyright holders' creative activities, and develop our culture through protection of creations.

  • This paper investigates the copyright problems faced in the process of collecting Performing Arts Records by the Performing Arts Institutions and the Performing Arts Archives. For this, first, the collected records at the scene of performing arts were classified. Secondly, the copyright problems were judicially analyzed based on the classification drawn. As a result, first, the copyright itself constitutes very complicated copyright systems since performing arts are thought to have characteristics of comprehensive arts, reborn with an artistic work from various fields such as music, stage and costumes. Secondly, the documentaries produced in the theater scene subsequently leads to another copyright problem which are different from one the copyright of the concert itself. Thirdly and lastly, this paper revealed that the copyright issues can be variously constituted according to record type and the substantial production body.

  • In the digital world, the transactions of assets with intrinsic value can be applied to games, literature, art, and music by issuing NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) based on Blockchain; various NFT exchanges are emerging accordingly just like real world asset exchanges. However, there could be an issue of copyright infringement in those NFT transactions. Therefore, this paper has classified the types of copyright infringement that may occur in NFT exchanges and proposes the copyright infringement countermeasures according to them. For this purpose, 10 types of NFT exchange are examined. Eventually, it can be expected that the proposed countermeasures will contribute to the revitalization of the NFT market by providing solutions for those issues.

  • In this study, we investigated the necessity and limitations of music composition required in TV documentary by conducting in-depth interviews with 20 music directors currently working at Korean Broadcasting System (KBS). Our research has shown that composition of music is necessary. However, in reality, it is difficult to use the composed music due to problems such as time and cost of composing and trust in the music composer; so music libraries, film music, or other music are used instead of the composed music in many situations. However, at the time when companies like its rival Netflix are aware of the importance of sound, the impact of Netflix could lead to a decline in the quality of terrestrial TV, which could lead to a weakening of competitiveness. Recently, in the case of sound programs, the sales of secondary works are active due to "internet uploading using YouTube" or "exporting programs", but the sales have been hindered by restrictions on the use of copyrighted works. The music source of library is said to be the one whose copyright problem has been resolved. In this study, we show that the composed music is an ultimate alternative to TV documentaries, since the library music is sometimes suspended due to the situations of management companies.
