Combined Effects of Gastrocnemius Stretch and Tibialis Anterior Resistance Exercise in Subjects with Limited Ankle Dorsiflexion

  • Objective: Limited ankle dorsiflexion is related to ankle injuries. There are various exercises to increase the flexibility of the gastrocnemius for improving the passive range of motion in ankle dorsiflexion. However, to performances in daily activities and athletic sports and higher efficiency of walking and running, both ankle dorsiflexion passive and active range of motion are needed. To investigate the effects of combined gastrocnemius stretching and tibialis anterior resistance exercise on ankle kinematics (passive and active range of motion of ankle dorsiflexion) and tibialis anterior muscle activity in subjects with limited ankle dorsiflexion. Design: Cross-sectional single-group repeated measures design. Methods: Fourteen subjects with limited ankle dorsiflexion were recruited (in the right ankle in 7 and the left ankle in 7). All subjects performed gastrocnemius stretching alone and tibialis anterior resistance exercise after gastrocnemius stretching. The passive and active range of motion of ankle dorsiflexion were measured after interventions immediately. The tibialis anterior activity was measured during active range of motion of ankle dorsiflexion measurement. Results: There was no significant difference of ankle dorsiflexion passive range of motion between gastrocnemius stretching alone and the tibialis anterior resistance exercise after gastrocnemius stretching. The tibialis anterior resistance exercise after gastrocnemius stretching significantly increased active range of motion of ankle dorsiflexion compared to gastrocnemius stretching alone (p<0.05). The tibialis anterior resistance exercise after gastrocnemius stretching significantly increased tibialis anterior activity better than did gastrocnemius stretching alone. Conclusions: Thus, subjects with limited ankle dorsiflexion should be encouraged to perform tibialis anterior resistance exercises.

무침주사기를 이용한 구제역 백신 접종과 이상육 발생 (Frequency of Lesions on Injection Site by Vaccination Using Needle-Free Injection)

  • 일반적으로 구제역 백신 접종은 유침주사기를 사용하고 있다. 유침주사기 사용 시 근육 조직 및 림프구에 병변이 생기는 이상육이 발생하고 이는 소비자의 불만제기와 국내산 돼지고기(한돈)의 이미지 악화와 관련된다. 그 대안으로 무침주사기 개발이 이루어지고 있다. 본 연구는 무침주사기를 이용한 구제역 백신 접종 시 이상육 발생빈도를 조사하여 무침주사기의 활용성을 검증하기 위해 실시했다. 실험결과 무침주사기 사용 시 이상육의 발생이 유침주사기 사용 대비 유의적으로 낮았다(36 vs. 16%, p < 0.05). 따라서 무침주사기를 이용한 구제역 백신 접종 시 이상육 발생을 낮춰 돈육 품질을 높이고 소비자 불만을 감소시킬 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. 추가 연구로 무침주사기의 항체형성률, 작업효율성, 경제적 비용 등을 조사하고 무침주사기의 활용성을 검증할 필요가 있다.

  • Failure Renal is the function of the kidneys to remove waste products and keep them on the periphery. and minerals for the body. Chronic renal failure is a syndrome characterized by a slow, irreversible deterioration of renal function due to the slow destruction of renal parenchyma. Calcium is one of the important minerals that the body contains in the blood and important tissues, and it has an important role in vital processes such as muscle contraction, nerve impulse conduction, the efficiency of heart muscle work, and blood clotting processes. The aim of the study is to study and compare calcium levels in men and women. It includes studying abnormal levels of calcium that cause many diseases, including chronic renal failure, and studying changes associated with renal failure. The method of this study was conducted on patients with chronic renal failure at Murjan Teaching Hospital in Babylon city during the period. The study included a sample of 70 patients (40 males, 30 females) with chronic renal failure, their ages ranged from 30-65, and 60 (30 males, 30 females) healthy without the disease of the same age. The result was a significant decrease in the number of red and white blood cells, hemoglobin concentration, hematocrit and platelets in patients with chronic renal failure, The result has been showed significant level in enzymes activity for transfer of amine group (alanine amino transferase, aspartate amino transferas) and phosphatase alkaline and also concentration of total bilirubin in patient with compare with healthy, Significantly increases, were found in the concentration of urea, uric acid and creatinine, as well as the concentration of calcium and phosphorous ions in the blood serum of patients compared to healthy controls.

The Comparison of Commercial Serum-Free Media for Hanwoo Satellite Cell Proliferation and the Role of Fibroblast Growth Factor 2

  • Fetal bovine serum (FBS), which contains various nutrients, comprises 20% of the growth medium for cell-cultivated meat. However, ethical, cost, and scientific issues, necesitates identification of alternatives. In this study, we investigated commercially manufactured serum-free media capable of culturing Hanwoo satellite cells (HWSCs) to identify constituent proliferation enhancing factors. Six different serum-free media were selected, and the HWSC proliferation rates in these serum-free media were compared with that of control medium supplemented with 20% FBS. Among the six media, cell proliferation rates were higher only in StemFlexTM Medium (SF) and Mesenchymal Stem Cell Growth Medium DXF (MS) than in the control medium. SF and MS contain high fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF2) concentrations, and we found upregulated FGF2 protein expression in cells cultured in SF or MS. Activation of the fibroblast growth factor receptor 1 (FGFR1)-mediated signaling pathway and stimulation of muscle satellite cell proliferation-related factors were confirmed by the presence of related biomarkers (FGFR1, FRS2, Raf1, ERK, p38, Pax7, and MyoD) as indicated by quantitative polymerase chain reaction, western blotting, and immunocytochemistry. Moreover, PD173074, an FGFR1 inhibitor suppressed cell proliferation in SF and MS and downregulated related biomarkers (FGFR1, FRS2, Raf1, and ERK). The promotion of cell proliferation in SF and MS was therefore attributed to FGF2, which indicates that FGFR1 activation in muscle satellite cells may be a target for improving the efficiency of cell-cultivated meat production.

Current Research, Industrialization Status, and Future Perspective of Cultured Meat

  • Expectations for the industrialization of cultured meat are growing due to the increasing support from various sectors, such as the food industry, animal welfare organizations, and consumers, particularly vegetarians, but the progress of industrialization is slower than initially reported. This review analyzes the main issues concerning the industrialization of cultured meat, examines research and media reports on the development of cultured meat to date, and presents the current technology, industrialization level, and prospects for cultured meat. Currently, over 30 countries have companies industrializing cultured meat, and around 200 companies that are developing or industrializing cultured meat have been surveyed globally. By country, the United States has over 50 companies, accounting for more than 20% of the total. Acquiring animal cells, developing cell lines, improving cell proliferation, improving the efficiency of cell differentiation and muscle production, or developing cell culture media, including serum-free media, are the major research themes related to the development of cultured meat. In contrast, the development of devices, such as bioreactors, which are crucial in enabling large-scale production, is relatively understudied, and few of the many companies invested in the development of cultured meat have presented products for sale other than prototypes. In addition, because most information on key technologies is not publicly available, it is not possible to determine the level of technology in the companies, and it is surmised that the technology of cultured meat-related startups is not high. Therefore, further research and development are needed to promote the full-scale industrialization of cultured meat.

마늘 추출물(Garlic Extract)의 첨가가 육계 생산성, 영양소 소화율, 도체 성상 및 계육 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Garlic Extract Supplementation on Growth Performance, Nutrient Digestibility, Carcass Characteristics and Meat Composition in Broilers)

  • 본 연구는 마늘 추출물(GE)의 급여가 육계 생산성, 영양소 소화율, 도체 성상 및 계육 특성에 미치는 영향에 대해 조사하기 위하여 1일령 Hubbard 종 Broiler(체중 $44.72{\pm}1.76\;g$) 1,200수를 공시하여 3처리 4반복, 반복당 100수씩 완전 임의 배치하였다. 3개의 처리구는 각각 대조구, 마늘 추출물 (GE) 100 ppm, 200 ppm 첨가구로 나누어, 육계 전기(0~3주)와 육계 후기(4~5주) 총 5주 동안 사양 시험을 진행하였다. 마늘 추출물(GE) 100 ppm과 200 ppm을 사료에 첨가하여 실험한 결과 증체량과 사료 섭취량에서는 GE 100 ppm 첨가구가 대조구에 비해 높게 나타났지만 통계적 유의성은 인증되지 않았다(p>0.05). 후기의 사료 요구율은 GE 100 ppm 첨가구가 대조구에 비해 개선되었다(p<0.05). 영양소 소화율에서는 GE 100 ppm 첨가구와 GE 200 ppm 첨가구의 건물 소화율이 대조구에 비해 개선되었다(p<0.05). 산패도는 계육의 보존 기간을 늘려주는 주요한 요소인데, 마늘 추출물 급여시 계육의 산패도가 저장 8일과 12일차에 대조구에 비해 유의적으로 낮게 나타났다(p<0.05). 육색 측정에서는 가슴살의 명도, 적색도와 황색도를 조사하였는데, 명도에서 GE 200 ppm 첨가구가 대조구에 비해 높게 나타났다(p<0.05). 본 실험의 결과 육계 사료 내 GE의 첨가는 육계의 생산성에는 영향을 미치지 못한 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 계육의 보존 기간을 늘려주는 주요한 요소인 산패도와 소비자들의 기호성을 높여주는 육색(명도)을 개선시킨 것으로 볼 때 육계 사료 내 GE의 첨가는 계육의 육질 개선에 효과가 있는 것으로 판단된다.

사료 지질원으로 우지, 대두유 및 오징어 간유 첨가에 따른 조피볼락 Sebastes schlegeli의 성장 및 체성분 변화와 절식시 체내 대사 (Effects of Dietary Beef Tallow, Soybean Oil and Squid Liver Oil on Growth and Body Composition of the Korean Rockfish Sebastes schlegeli, and Biochemical Changes with Starvation)

  • 사료의 n-3HUFA 함량이 $1.6\%$ 이상 함유되도록 조절한 3종의 실험 사료로 43g 전후의 조피볼락을 19주간 사육 실험한 후, 136g전후의 어체를 45일간 절식시켜 사료 지질원에 따른 조피볼락의 성장 및 체성분의 변화와 절식시 체내 대사를 조사하였다. 증중율, 사료 효율, 단백질 축적 효율 및 지질 축적 효율 모두 사료 지질원에 따른 유의차가 없었다$(P\geq0.05)$ 간과 등 근육의 총지질 중의 지방산은 사료 지질원의 조성비에 영향을 받아, monoene산은 우지 첨가구에, n-6계 지방산 (18:2n-6, 22:4n-6)들은 대두유 첨가구에, n-3계 지방산 (20 : 5n-3, 22 : 6n-3)들은 오징어 간유 단독 첨가구에 상대적으로 더 높게 조성되어 있었다. 전 어체 및 등 근육의 일반 성분은 실험구별로 차이가 없었으며, 간 중량비 및 내장 중량비도 차이가 없었다. 간과 내장의 수분 함량은 오징어 간유 구가 타 실험구에 비해 높았으며, 간지질 함량은 우지 첨가구가 가장 높았다. 간 중량비 및 내장 중량비는 모두 절식기간 중에 전체적으로 감소하였으며, 오징어 간유 구가 타 실험구에 비해 그 감소폭이 컸다. 절식 15일까지는 근육 단백질과 지질이 감소하였고, 그 후부터는 간의 글리코겐 함량이 감소하였으며, 내장 지질은 절식 기간 중 계속 감소하는 현상을 보여 절식 중에 이용되는 에너지원의 형태와 시기가 다르게 나타났다. 혈청 성분은 지질원에 따라 절식 기간별로 이동되는 형태가 약간 다르게 나타나기는 하였으나, 절식 기간이 길어짐에 따라 점차 그 차이는 없었다.

Effects of Different Dietary Cadmium Levels on Growth and Tissue Cadmium Content in Juvenile Parrotfish, Oplegnathus fasciatus

  • This feeding trial was carried out to evaluate the effects of different dietary cadmium levels on growth and tissue cadmium content in juvenile parrotfish, Oplegnathus fasciatus, using cadmium chloride ($CdCl_2$) as the cadmium source. Fifteen fish averaging $5.5{\pm}0.06$ g (mean${\pm}$SD) were randomly distributed into each of twenty one rectangular fiber tanks of 30 L capacity. Each tank was then randomly assigned to one of three replicates of seven diets containing 0.30 ($C_0$), 21.0 ($C_{21}$), 40.7 ($C_{41}$), 83.5 ($C_{83}$), 162 ($C_{162}$), 1,387 ($C_{1,387}$) and 2,743 ($C_{2,743}$) mg cadmium/kg diet. At the end of sixteen weeks of feeding trial, weight gain (WG), specific growth rate (SGR) and feed efficiency (FE) of fish fed $C_{21}$ were significantly higher than those of fish fed $C_{83}$, $C_{162}$, $C_{1,387}$ and $C_{2,743}$ (p<0.05). Weight gain, SGR and FE of fish fed $C_0$, $C_{21}$ and $C_{41}$ were significantly higher than those of fish fed $C_{162}$, $C_{1,387}$ and $C_{2,743}$. Protein efficiency ratio of fish fed $C_0$, $C_{21}$ and $C_{41}$ were significantly higher than those of fish fed $C_{1,387}$ and $C_{2,743}$. Average survival of fish fed $C_0$, $C_{21}$, $C_{41}$ and $C_{162}$ were significantly higher than that of fish fed $C_{2,743}$. Tissue cadmium concentrations increased with cadmium content of diets. Cadmium accumulated the most in liver, followed by gill and then muscle. Muscle, gill and liver cadmium concentrations of fish fed $C_0$, $C_{21}$, $C_{41}$ and $C_{83}$ were significantly lower than those of fish fed $C_{162}$, $C_{1,387}$ and $C_{2,743}$. Based on the ANOVA results of growth performance and tissue cadmium concentrations the safe dietary cadmium level could be lower than 40.7 mg Cd/kg diet while the toxic level could be higher than 162 mg Cd/kg diet.

Effect of Measured Energy Restriction and Age Intervals on Growth, Nutrient Digestibility, Carcass Parameters, Bone Characteristics and Stress in Broiler Breeders during the Rearing Period

  • This study aimed at targeting fixed increases in body weight (100 g/wk) by quantitatively regulating energy allowances (ME) in broiler breeders from 5 to 20 wks of age. Four energy regimes were tested: 1. The energy required for maintenance, activity and growth was calculated for 100 g increases in body weight/wk and a measured quantity of grower diet (160 g protein and 2,600 kcal ME/kg) was offered to the control group (ME-100) to achieve the anticipated weight gain. The energy allowances increased with age from 132 to 294 kcal/d. 2. Additionally, three energy regimes were considered, quantitatively reducing ME by 10% (ME-90) or 20% (ME-80) and increasing by10% (ME-110) over the control group. Each test group had 23 replicates5 female chicks housed in cages. The influence of energy regimes and age on growth, nutrient digestibility, carcass attributes, bone parameters and stress was evaluated at 4 wk intervals. Quantitative ME restriction by 10% (119-265 kcal/d) produced an average weight gain of 98.1 g/wk, which was closer to the targeted increase of 100 g/wk, whereas the control group attained it nine days earlier. Restriction of energy by 10 or 20% produced better conversion efficiency of feed, energy and protein and apparent digestibility of protein, Ca and P than 10% excess ME. Energy regimes did not influence eviscerated meat yield, but higher energy allowances (ME-110) significantly increased abdominal fat pad and liver weights and decreased giblet weight, percent muscle protein and tibia ash. Relatively higher stress was recorded in ME-restricted groups, as reflected by wider heterophil and lymphocyte ratios and increased bursa weight. Early age (5-12 wk) significantly influenced bone mineralization, conversion efficiency of feed, energy and protein and apparent digestibility of protein, Ca and P, while later ages (13-20 wk) increased eviscerated meat yield, abdominal fat, tibia weight and muscle protein and reduced stress. Energy regime x age interactions were significant and are discussed. In conclusion, the synthetic broiler line used in our study responded positively to controlled energy feeding during the rearing period. Breeders offered 119-265 kcal/d, a reduction of 10% energy over the control group, were more effective in regulating grower performance than the latter. In addition to energy regimes, age intervals also exhibited significant influence on specific parameters during the grower phase.

사료의 P, Ca, Zn, Mg, Fe, K, Mn과 Se이 조피볼락의 성장 및 체성분에 미치는 영향 (Influence of P, Ca, Zn, Mg, Fe, K, Mn, or Se in the Dietary Mineral Premix on Growth and Body Composition of Korean Rockfish (Sebastes schlegeli))

  • 조피볼락 사료의 각종 미네랄 필수성을 조사하기 위해 주요 mineral 함량이 낮은 조피볼락 근육과 casein을 사료 단백질원으로 선정하여 영양연구용으로 자체 설계된 reference premix중에 P, Ca, Zn, Mg, Fe, K, Mn 및 Se을 각각 첨가하지 않은 premix와 mineral 전부를 첨가하지 않은 사료를 설정하여 모두 10종 실험사료를 제조하였다. 평균체중 4.2g의 조피볼락 치어를 각 수조에 25마리씩 실험사료마다 3반복으로 수용하여 10주간 사육실험하였다. 성장, 사료효율, 영양소이용률, 전어체의 지질 함량에서 mineral premix를 첨가하지 않은 사료가 가장 낮은 것 (P<0.01)으로 나타났다. Reference mineral premix에 P, Ca, Zn, Mg, Fe, K, Mn 및 Se을 각각 첨가하지 않은 실험 사료의 증체율은 모두 reference premix를 첨가한 대조구보다 유의하게 낮았다 (P<0.01). 사료효율은 Mg, Fe, K 및 Se을 첨가하지 않은 실험구가 대조구와 통계적으로 차이가 없었으며, 그외 실험구는 대조구보다 낮은 값을 보였다 (P<0.01). 일일 사료섭취율은 실험구간에 유의차가 없었지만 (P>0.01), P, Ca 및 Zn 무첨가구들의 단백질축적률은 대조구보다 저조한 성적을 보였으며, 지질축적률은 Zn 무첨가구만 대조구와 차이를 보였다 (P<0.01). 각 미네랄을 첨가하지 않은 실험구들의 어체성분은 대조구와 통계적인 차이가 없었다.
