The purposes of this study were to evaluate the color characteristics and color sensibility of mulberry/cotton blended fabrics dyed with indigo, the natural dye, and analyze effects of them on color preferences. The values of CIE $L^*$, $a^*$, $b^*$$C^*$, h were calculated for the color characteristics of indigo-dyed fabrics, and their hue, value, and chroma were calculated according to the Munsell color system. Fifty male and female college students evaluated the color sensibility of nine types fabrics dyed with indigo on a seven-point scale. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, factor analysis, Kruscal-Wallis test, correlation analysis, and regression analysis. The mulberry/cotton blended fabrics naturally dyed with indigo showed the characteristics of PB color tones, low value, and low chroma. The color sensibilities of fabrics dyed with indigo were classified into four factors: 'classic', 'sporty', 'elegant' and 'natural'. There were significant differences according to the fibers and the repeating times of dyeing in the color sensibility for the fabrics. Cotton fabrics were evaluated to be more classic, sporty, elegant, and natural than the mulberry/cotton blended fabrics, and the deeper the color, the more classic, sporty, and elegant the fabric was evaluated. The students preferred the indigo dyed fabrics which have more classic, sporty, and natural sensibility. There were significant relationships between the color sensibilities and colorimetric properties of the fabrics dyed with indigo. The color preferences of the dyed fabrics with indigo were found to be influenced by the 'classic', 'sporty', 'natural' of color sensibility.
The tristimulus values of 180 extracted maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth were measured by colorimeter. And it were colnverted to Munsell color order system(Hue, Value, Chroma) and CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ color coordinates. The commonly used Vita, and Bioform shade guides, 2 composite resin shade guides(Prisma APH and Z-100), and a glass-ionomer shade guide(Fuji II) were compared with these teeth. At the middle facial surface, color distributions of teeth were Hue(0.56YR to 9.77Y), Value(2.46 to 7.9), and Chroma(0.14 to 2.02). And the aberaged values and standard deviations for $L^*a^*b^*$ were $63.18{\pm}10.44$, $1.11{\pm}1.66$, and $5.79{\pm}2.36$. The shade guide did not match well with the color space of the human teeth. Especially, the lacks of the Yellow-red Hues and higher values were prominent. Compare with other measurements, the Hues of the teeth measured in this study were broadly distributed(most of ranges in Y and YR were included), while the Value and chroma were shown to the lower.
This study examined the degradation behavior of SB(standard berberine) dye and SB dyed silk using HPLC-MS instrument after degradation in the hydrogen peroxide/ultraviolet ray radiation/oxygen system up to 9 days and 40 hours respectively. In the degraded samples, berberine was detected at 5.2 min in the SB dye and 5.3 min in the SB dyed silk with its molecular ion=336 and the UV spectra of quaternary alkaloid. Degradation product 3(m/z=102) newly appeared after 5 day degradation treatment with continued increase till the end of degradation treatment. The amount of berberine in the degraded dye decreased with degradation progression. In the silk dyeings, berberine was detected only up to 21 hour degradation sample. The amount of berberine decreased dramatically during the first 6 hours of degradation treatment. The CIELAB color measurement of the silk dyeings showed dramatic change in the b* value, near zero in the 40 hour degraded silk. CIELAB and Munsell color measurements were in agreement with the HPLC-MS results of the dyed silk in the change of berberine content that the degraded silk became white and lost yellow color.
The New Silver Generation, which includes retired baby boomers, is eschewing traditional lifestyles, remaining socially and economically active, and striving to enjoy their lives. It is necessary to understand the preferences, sensibilities, and fashion propensities of such individuals. Thus, this study analyzed the New Silver Generation's fashion color preferences and proposed fashion color scheme guidelines that could be used in the fashion industry. First, surveys were conducted in people of the New Silver Generation aged from 55 to 65 years. The survey questions included the following: fashion color preferences, fashion sensibility and taste preferences, fashion interests, lifestyle, and demographic background. Second, the survey was conducted to identify differences in color preferences based on respondents' fashion interests and lifestyles. Next, to compose color palettes for the survey, 45 colors from the Munsell color system were chosen at random. The major research results were as follows: It was shown that socializing- and health-preferring individuals wore achromatic color, leisure-preferring individuals wore P color, and self-preferring individuals wore B color. The commonly worn colors were achromatic colors. After the age of 55 years, health- and leisure-preferring individuals often wore R color and RP color, respectively. Thus, this study proposed a color scheme arrangement that used achromatic colors, such as black and white, as the main colors list for the four lifestyle types.
As information-communication network has been developed rapidly, internet users' circumstances also have been changed for the better, in result, more information can be applied than before. At this moment, there are many differences between real color and reappeared color on the CRT. When we observe a material object, our eyes perceive the multiplied form of light sources and nature spectral reflection. However, when the photographed signal is reappeared, illumination at that time of photographing and spectral reflection of a material object are converted into signal, and this converted RGB signal is observed on the CRT under another illumination. At this time, RGB signal is the reflected result of illumination at that time of photographing Therefore, this signal is influenced by the illumination at present, so it can be perceived another color. To accord the colro reflections of another color source, the study has been reported by S.C.Ahn$^{[1]}$, which study is about the color reapperarance system using neuron network. Furthermore, color reappearing method become independent of its circumstances has been reported by Y.Miyake$^{[2]}$. This method can make the same illuminations even if the observe circumstances are changed. To assume the light sources of observe circumstances, the study about color reappearing system using CCD sensor also have been studied by S.C.Ahn$^{[3]}$. In these studies, a population is fixed, first, on ab coordinates of CIE L${\ast}$a${\ast}$b${\ast}$. Then, color reappearing can be possible using every population and existing digital camera. However, the color is changed curvedly, not straightly, according to value's changes on the ab coordinates of CIE L${\ast}$a${\ast}$b. To solve these problems in this study, first of all, Labeling techniques are introduced. Next, basis color-it is based on Munsell color system-is divided into 10 color fields. And then, 4 special color- skin color, grass color, sky color, and gray-are added to the basis color. Finally, 14 color fields are fixed. After analyzing of the principle elements of new-defined-color fields' population, utility value and propriety value are going to be examined in 3-Band system from now on.
HSV색공간을 이용한 칼라화상의 클러스터링 및 색차평가에 관한 연구(A Study on Clustering and Color Difference Evaluation of Color Image using HSV Color Space) pp.20~27 칼라화상을 화상부호화, 리모트 센싱, 컴퓨터비젼 등의 분야에 이용하기 위해서는 인간이 감각적으로 취급하기 쉬운 색공간으로 화상정보를 변환시켜야 한다.
In the 21st century, university library is changing into a new paradigm. Among others, color image emerges as an important aspect of the library. Up to now, studies on colors of indoor space have been limited on partial and specific spaces. But, this study, using the tool of emotional evaluation, aims to do a comprehensive research on color image of the whole space. This research uses the H University library completed in March 2015. This research is performed in the following procedure. First, previous related researches for the past ten years from 2005 to 2015 is examined, which will help understand the trends in this kind of research, and set up the concrete goal of research. By literature review, color image is established in the environmental psychological aspect. Second, to analyze colors, all the spaces of the library from the entrance lobby are filmed. Filmed images are changed into mosaic, and color palettes are composed, and color values are calculated using the Munsell color system. Third, emotional words are extracted, and emotional evaluation is made. Using the Semantic Differential scale method, emotional differences among subjects are compared, and the validity of the survey data is tested using the statistical program SPSS 18.0. As the outcome of the research shows, the color image and emotion in space are closely related. And, through emotion, it is possible to get color image, and this aspect can be scholastically systemized and developed.
This study was aimed to analyze color characteristics of silk fabrics dyed with a variety of commercial natural dyes focusing on hue/tone system. Using eleven different natural dyes, single and sequential dyeing were performed under a variety of conditions of dye bath concentration, mordanting, and dyeing sequences. Color characteristics of dyed silk fabrics were investigated by Munsell's color notation of H V/C and PCCS (Practical Color Coordination System) tones. As results, most of yellowish natural dyes as principal shades in natural dyeing showed Y or YR for hue families while d, ltg, and g for tone, which agrees with colors frequently used in comtemporary apparel industries. As for single dyeing, some hues like R, RP, G, GY, and BG were found to have their own tones owing to the used natural dyes. For varying hues in natural dyeing, sequential dyeing is useful in that GY, G, and BG rarely appeared in single dyeing were frequently shown in sequential dyeing by combination of some dyes. In the other hands, mordanting may be employed for tone variation in that aluminum seemed to contribute to light and dull tones, copper to dull, and ferrum to garyish and dark ones. These results can be helpful to design colors for fashion fields by natural dyeing.
In this study, the efficacy of water lily(Nymphaea tetragona) leaves as a new natural dye resource was investigated. For this purpose, the colorants from water lily leaves were extracted in methanol, evaporated, and powdered. Dyeing onto cotton fiber was carried out to study the effects of dyeing conditions, mordant type and mordanting method on dye uptake, color change, and colorfastness. FTIR analysis supported that hydrolyzable tannins and chrolophyll were contained in the extracted colorants. The colorants showed good affinity to cotton fiber showing Y Munsell color. Pre-mordanting method gave better results in terms of dye uptake than post-mordanting method. By mordanting, dyed fabrics exhibited various colors such as green, khaki, brownish yellow, dark brown, dark gray and so on. Colorfastness to washing and rubbing was relatively good showing 4-5 rating. The light fastness was improved 1-2 rating by Fe mordanting. The dyed cotton fabric showed antimicrobial activity.
The objective was to investigate the efficacy of Metasequoia(Metasequoia glyptostroboides) cone colorants as a new functional dye for wool fiber. Effects of dyeing conditions and mordanting on dye uptake, color change, and colorfastness were investigated for wool fiber. Compared with cotton and silk fibers, wool fiber showed better affinity for the Metasequoia cone colorants. Fe and Cu mordants improved dye uptake, and mordanting did not change the color of dyed fabric with YR Munsell color. Colorfastness to rubbing and washing was as good as grade 4, whereas lightfastness of the dyed fabrics was above grade 3. Antimicrobial activity of the colorants was very high 99.3% of reduction rate toward S. aureus. It was confirmed that Metasequoia cone colorants can be utilized as a new functional natural dye for wool fiber. In addition, considering its high antimicrobial functionality it could be applied to cosmetics and food.
