  • Process capability indices are widely used in industries and quality assurance system. When designing the parameter on the multiple quality characteristics, there has been a study for optimization of problems, but there has been few former study on the possible conflicting phenomena in considertion of the correlations among the characteristics. To solve the issue on the optimal design for multiple quality characteristics, the study propose the expected loss function with cross-product terms among the characteristics and derived range of the coefficients of terms. Therefore, the analysis have to be required a multivariate statistical technique. This paper introduces to multivariate capability indices and then selects a multivariate process capability index incorporated both the process variation and the process deviation from target among these indices under the multivariate normal distribution. We propose a new multivariate capability index $MC_{pm}^{++}$ using quality loss function instead of the process variation and this index is compared with the proposed indices when quality characteristics are independent and dependent of each other.

Differentiation of Roots of Glycyrrhiza Species by 1H Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy and Multivariate Statistical Analysis

  • To classify Glycyrrhiza species, samples of different species were analyzed by $^1H$ NMR-based metabolomics technique. Partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) was used as the multivariate statistical analysis of the 1H NMR data sets. There was a clear separation between various Glycyrrhiza species in the PLS-DA derived score plots. The PLS-DA model was validated, and the key metabolites contributing to the separation in the score plots of various Glycyrrhiza species were lactic acid, alanine, arginine, proline, malic acid, asparagine, choline, glycine, glucose, sucrose, 4-hydroxy-phenylacetic acid, and formic acid. The compounds present at relatively high levels were glucose, and 4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid in G. glabra; lactic acid, alanine, and proline in G. inflata; and arginine, malic acid, and sucrose in G. uralensis. This is the first study to perform the global metabolomic profiling and differentiation of Glycyrrhiza species using $^1H$ NMR and multivariate statistical analysis.

  • Stratification (among other applications) is a popular technique used in survey practice to improve the accuracy of estimators. Its full potential benefit can be gained by the effective use of auxiliary variables in stratification related to survey variables. This paper focuses on the problem of stratum formation when multiple stratification variables are available. We first review a variance reduction strategy in the case of univariate stratification. We then discuss its use for multivariate situations in convenient and efficient ways using three methods: compromised measures of size, principal components analysis and a K-means clustering algorithm. We also consider three types of compromising factors to data when using these three methods. Finally, we compare their efficiency using data from MU281 Swedish municipality population.

  • Metabolomics is the study which detects the changes of metabolites level. Metabolomics is a terminal view of the biological system. The end products of the metabolism, metabolites, reflect the responses to external environment. Therefore metabolomics gives the additional information about understanding the metabolic pathways. These metabolites can be used as biomarkers that indicate the disease or external stresses such as exposure to toxicant. Many kinds of biological samples are used in metabolomics, for example, cell, tissue, and bio fluids. NMR spectroscopy is one of the tools of metabolomics. NMR data are analyzed by multivariate statistical analysis and target profiling technique. Recently, NMR-based metabolomics is a growing field in various studies such as disease diagnosis, forensic science, and toxicity assessment.

  • There has been substantial research into the bankruptcy prediction. Many researchers used the statistical method in the problem until the early 1980s. Since the late 1980s, Artificial Intelligence(AI) has been employed in bankruptcy prediction. And many studies have shown that artificial neural network(ANN) achieved better performance than traditional statistical methods. However, despite ANN's superior performance, it has some problems such as overfitting and poor explanatory power. To overcome these limitations, this paper suggests a relatively new machine learning technique, support vector machine(SVM), to bankruptcy prediction. SVM is simple enough to be analyzed mathematically, and leads to high performances in practical applications. The objective of this paper is to examine the feasibility of SVM in bankruptcy prediction by comparing it with ANN, logistic regression, and multivariate discriminant analysis. The experimental results show that SVM provides a promising alternative to bankruptcy prediction.

  • Multivariate analysis is a statistical technique that investigates relationship between multiple predictor variables and response variable and it is a very commonly used statistical approach in cement and concrete industry. During model building stage, however, many predictor variables are included in the model and possible collinearity problems between these predictors are generally ignored. In this study, use of partial least squares (PLS) analysis for evaluating the relationships among the cement and concrete properties is investigated. This regression method is known to decrease the model complexity by reducing the number of predictor variables as well as to result in accurate and reliable predictions. The experimental studies showed that the method can be used in the multivariate problems of cement and concrete industry effectively.

  • Employing the covariance adjustment technique, we show that in the system of two seemingly unrelated multivariate regressions the estimator of regression coefficients can be expressed as a matrix power series, and conclude that the matrix series only has a unique simpler form. In the case that the covariance matrix of the system is unknown, we define a two-stage estimator for the regression coefficients which is shown to be unique and unbiased. Numerical simulations are also presented to illustrate its superiority over the ordinary least square estimator. Also, as an example we apply our results to the seemingly unrelated growth curve models.

  • Some multivariate analyses provide configurations for variables or objects in low dimensional space because we can see easily their relation. In particular, in simple correspondence analysis(SCA), we can obtain the various configurations which are called SCA Maps based on the algebraic algorithms. Moreover, it often occur the variability among them. Therefore, in this study, we will give a comparison of variability of SCA maps using the procrustes analysis which is a technique of comparing configurations in multidimensional scaling.

  • Statistical calibration is a useful technique for achieving compatibility between two different measurement methods, and it usually consists of two steps : (1) estimation of the relationship between the standard and nonstandard measurements, and (2) prediction of future standard measurements using the estimated relationship and observed nonstandard measurements. A predictive multivariate errors-in-variables model is presented for the multivariate calibration problem in which the standard as well as the nonstandard measurements are subject to error. For the estimation of the relationship between the two measurements, the maximum likelihood (ML) estimation method is considered. It is shown that the direct and the inverse predictors for the future unknown standard measurement are the same under ML estimation. Based upon large-sample approximations, the mean square error of the predictor is derived.

  • This paper introduces CybeRClass(Cyber Regression Class). CybeRClass uses the technique of animation arid voice to teach regression analysis. The structure of this system make it possible to extend to multivariate analysis methods such as discriminant analysis and cluster analysis. Tools for multimedia is Multimedia ToolBook, and Xlisp-Stat is used for statistical computation and statistical graphics.
