  • In-band full-duplex (IFD) communication has recently attracted a great deal of interest because it potentially provides a two-fold spectral efficiency increase over half-duplex communications. In this paper, we propose a novel digital self-interference cancelation (DSIC) algorithm for an IFD communication system in which two nodes exchange orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols. The proposed DSIC algorithm is based on the least-squares estimation of a self-interference (SI) channel with block processing of multiple OFDM symbols, in order to eliminate the fundamental and harmonic components of SI induced through the practical radio frequency devices of an IFD transceiver. In addition, the proposed DSIC algorithm adopts discrete Fourier transform processing of the estimated SI channel to further enhance its cancelation performance. We provide a minimum number of training symbols to estimate the SI channel effectively. The evaluation results show that our proposed DSIC algorithm outperforms a conventional algorithm.

  • This paper considers the problem of routing connections in a optical multi tree networks using WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing), where each connection between a pair of nodes in the network is assigned a path through the network and a wavelength on that path, so that connections whose paths share a common link in the network are assigned different wavelengths. The problem of optimal coloring of the paths on the optical multi-networks is NP-hard[1], but if that is the coloring of all paths, then there exists efficient polynomial time algorithm. In this paper, using a "divide & conquer" method, we give efficient algorithm to assign wavelengths to all the paths of a tree network based on the theory of [7]. Here, our time complexity is 0(n4log n).

  • Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) is an upcoming standard in Korea used to provide mobile multimedia broadcasting service based on the Eureka-147 Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) system. The current dominant multimedia coding standard, MPEG-4, is foreseen to play an important role in forthcoming DMB services. However, the current approaches for transporting MPEG-4 content over DMB networks are not optimized. To address this issue we propose a novel MPEG-4 stream multiplexer, called M4SMux, which provides better stream multiplexing and delivery over DMB networks. M4SMux features an MPEG-4 elementary-stream interleaving mechanism that reduces the multiplexing overhead and a multiplex configuration mechanism that utilizes M4SLinkTable for easy content access. In addition, we propose an error correction method which enhances transport efficiency.

  • We consider channel-coded multi-input multi-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) transmission and obtain a condition on its signal for it to attain the maximum diversity and coding gain. As this condition may not be realizable, we propose a suboptimal design that employs an orthogonal transform and a space-frequency interleaver between the channel coder and the multi-antenna OFDM transmitter. We propose a corresponding receiving method based on block turbo equalization. Attention is paid to some detailed design of the transmitter and the receiver to curtail the computational complexity and yet deliver good performance. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed transmission technique can outperform the conventional coded MIMO OFDM and the MIMO block single-carrier transmission with cyclic prefixing.

FTTH(Fiber to The Home)의 실현이 필수적이며, FTTH의 고비용과 설비 문제를 해결하기 위한 대안으로 PON(Passive Optical Network)이 부상하고 있다.

  • We propose a blind feedforward phase noise mitigation method in the time-domain for a coherent optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (CO-OFDM) systems. By exploiting the redundancy of the cyclic prefix (CP), the proposed scheme acquires the overall phase noise difference information during an OFDM block and attempts to mitigate the phase noise in the time domain using a linear approximation. The proposed algorithm mitigates common phase error (CPE) and inter-carrier-interference (ICI) due to phase noise simultaneously, improving the system performance, especially when decision-directed equalizers are used. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed feedforward phase noise mitigation approach in time domain.

  • In this paper, an efficient blind carrier frequency offset (CFO) estimation method in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems is proposed. In the proposed method, we obtain two time different received OFDM symbols by using both the cyclic prefix and oversampling technique, and a cost function is defined by using the two OFDM symbols. We show that the cost function can be approximately expressed as a cosine function. Using a property of the cosine function, a formular for estimating the CFO is derived. The estimator of the CFO requires three independent cost function values calculated at three different points of frequency offset. The proposed method is very efficient in computational complexity since no searching operation for the minimum cost value is required. The proposed method reduces 97% of the amount of FFT computation, compared with the ML method. Unlike the conventional methods such as the ML method and the MUSIC] method, the accuracy of the proposed method is independent of the searching resolution since the closed form solution exists. The computer simulation shows that the performance of the proposed method is superior to those of the MUSIC and the ML method.

  • When the multiple video sources are together transmitted through the channel of fixed bandwidth, the efficiently picture quality method is necessary. This paper presents the picture quality control method to keep the same distortion level among the video sources. We first find a model of distortion and bitrate for the multiplexing system of multiple sources. Then we obtain the bitrate for each source to have same distortion level among the sources by using the approximated model parameters for simple implementation.

  • In this paper, we analyze high-rate orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) system using time switched time diversity(TSTD) method based on IEEE 802.11a. First, we modeled the transmitter and receiver of OFDM system based on IEEE 802.11a. Then, we applied the TSTD to OFDM system. Finally we analyzed the performance of OFDM system using TSTD method by simulation over the 5GHz realistic channel model, where channel coding and channel equalizer over multipath environment are also applied.

  • We propose a wavelength allocation method for bidirectional transmission in a coarse wavelength division multiplexing channel. The method can be accommodated by assigning a different upstream wavelength from the downstream wavelength at room temperature to eliminate penalties induced by backscattering, including Rayleigh backscattering. We suggest a procedure to obtain the minimum wavelength difference.
