  • In this paper, we have introduced a Code Division Multiplexing transmission method which is similar to OFDM and analyze ECCM performances. We have verified CDM transmission method has a good LPI performance and a feasible ECCM performance. This capability could be useful for reduction of RF interference which occurs when many equipments operate densely in small area. The equipment that uses CDM transmission method supports variable transmission rate and order-wire effectively and conveniently to user. This CDM method has similar ECCM performance comparing to serial DS method. CDM method has good multi-path signal processing capability and could be useful for mobile communication environment.

  • Among many fabrication methods of composite materials, filament winding is the most effective method for fabricating axis-symmetric structures such as pressure tanks and pipes. Filament wound pressure tanks are under high internal pressure during the operation and it has the complexity in damage mechanisms and failure modes. Fiber optic sensors, especially FBG sensors can be easily embedded into the composite structures contrary to conventional electric strain gages (ESGs). In addition, many FBG sensors can be multiplexed in single optical fiber using wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) techniques. In this paper, we fabricated several filament wound pressure tanks with embedded FBG sensors and conducted some kinds of experiments such as an impact test, a bending test, and a thermal cycling test. From the experimental results, it was successfully demonstrated that FBG sensors are very appropriate to composite structures fabricated by filament winding process even though they are embedded into composites by multiplexing.

  • All-optical non-return-to-zero (NRZ) -to- return-to-zero (RZ) data-format conversion has been successfully demonstrated using a semiconductor optical amplifier in a fiber-loop mirror (so-called SOA-loop mirror) with a continuous-wave (CW) holding beam. The converted RZ signal after pulse compression has been used to create a 40 Gb/s OTDM (Optical Time Division Multiplexing) signal. Here is proposed an NRZ-to-RZ conversion method without any additional optical clocks, unlike conventional methods based on optical AND logic. In addition, it has the merit of operating at various bit-rate speeds without any controlling device. Moreover, it has a simple structure, and it can be used for all-optical bit-rate-flexible clock recovery.

  • This paper proposes a new $2{\times}2$ spatial-multiplexing(SM) scheme which is constructed by serially concatenating an orthogonal precoder with a conventional SM. Compared to the conventional SM, the proposed scheme achieves improved performance under erasure fading channels without any performance loss under non-erasure fading channels. Particularly the performance gain is more larger as a correlation value between two receive antennas increases.

  • Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) combined with time division multiplexing (TDM), in this paper called OFDM/TDM, can overcome the high peak-to-average-power ratio (PAPR) problem of the conventional OFDM and improve the robustness against long time delays. In this paper, the bit error rate (BER) performance of OFDM/FDM in a frequency-selective Rayleigh fading. channel is evaluated by computer simulation. It is shown that the use of frequency-domain equalization based on minimum mean square error criterion (MMSE-FDE) can significantly improve the BER performance, compared to the conventional OFDM, by exploiting the channel frequency-selectivity while reducing the PAPR or improving the robustness against long time delays. It is also shown that the performance of OFDM/FDM designed to reduce the PAPR can bridge the conventional OFDM and single-carrier (SC) transmission by changing the design parameter.

  • In this paper, a new orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) with 3-dimensional (3-D) signal mapper is proposed. Here, the signal mapper consists of signals on the surface of Poincare sphere. If the signal points are uniformly distributed and normalized to have the same average power, the minimum Euclidean distance of a 3-D constellation is much larger than that of a 2-D constellation. Computer simulation shows that the proposed OFDM has much improved error performance as compared with the conventional system.

  • In this paper, we proposed a brain-computer interface system using EEG signals. It can generate 4 direction command signal from EEG signals captured during imagination of subjects. Bandpass filter used for preprocessing to detect the brain signal, and the power spectrum at a specific frequency domain of the EEG signals for concentration status and non-concentration one is used for feature. In order to generate an adequate signal for controlling the 4 direction movement, we propose a new interface system implemented by using a support vector machine and a time-multiplexing method. Moreover, bio-feed back process and on-line adaptive pattern recognition mechanism are also considered in the proposed system. Computer experimental results show that the proposed method is effective to recognize the non-stational brain wave signal.

  • Lattice-reduction (LR) techniques have been developed for signal detection in spatial multiplexing multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems to obtain the largest diversity gain. Thus, an LR-assisted zero-forcing (ZF) receiver can achieve the maximum diversity gain in spatial multiplexing MIMO systems. In this paper, a simplified analysis of the achievable diversity gain is presented by fitting the channel coefficients lattice-reduced by a complex Lenstra-Lenstra-$Lov{\acute{a}}z$ (LLL) algorithm into approximated Gaussian random variables. It will be shown that the maximum diversity gain corresponding to two times the number of receive antennas can be achieved by the LR-based ZF detector. In addition, the approximated bit error rate (BER) expression is also derived. Finally, the analytical BER performance is comparatively studied with the simulated results.

  • In this paper, we provide a new detection scheme for a pilot symbol assisted interference nulling and cancellation operation to reduce unexpected effects owing to parallel transmission in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based spatial multiplexing systems. We have shown that the investigated OFDM vertical Bell laboratories layered space time (VBLAST) detection based on hybrid processing performs better than ordinary OFDM-VBLAST detections based on serial processing and parallel processing, respectively.
