Non-stationary Sparse Fading Channel Estimation for Next Generation Mobile Systems

  • In this paper the problem of massive multiple input multiple output (MIMO) channel estimation with sparsity aware adaptive algorithms for $5^{th}$ generation mobile systems is investigated. These channels are shown to be non-stationary along with being sparse. Non-stationarity is a feature that implies channel taps change with time. Up until now most of the adaptive algorithms that have been presented for channel estimation, have only considered sparsity and very few of them have been tested in non-stationary conditions. Therefore we investigate the performance of several newly proposed sparsity aware algorithms in these conditions and finally propose an enhanced version of RZA-LMS/F algorithm with variable threshold namely VT-RZA-LMS/F. The results show that this algorithm has better performance than all other algorithms for the next generation channel estimation problems, especially when the non-stationarity gets high. Overall, in this paper for the first time, we estimate a non-stationary Rayleigh fading channel with sparsity aware algorithms and show that by increasing non-stationarity, the estimation performance declines.

A Novel Recursive Algorithm for Efficient ZF-OSIC Detection in a V-BLAST System

  • To reduce the implementation complexity of the Vertical Bell Labs layered space-time (V-BLAST) systems with respect to the zero-forcing (ZF) criterion, a computationally efficient recursive algorithm is proposed. A fast implementation of the proposed algorithm is developed and its complexity is analyzed in detail. The proposed algorithm matches the ZF-OSIC detection well, and its three significant advantages can be demonstrated by analyses and simulations. Firstly, its speedups over the conventional ZF-OSIC with norm-based ordering, the original fast recursive algorithm (FRA) and the fastest known algorithm (FKA) in the number of flops are 1.58, 2.33 and 1.22, respectively. Secondly, a much simpler implementation than FRA and FKA can be expected. Finally, the storage requirements are lower than those of FRA and FKA. These advantages make the proposed algorithm more efficient and practical.

AF 방식 중계기 네트워크에서의 SC-FDE를 위한 MRC MMSE 등화 기법 (MRC MMSE Equalization for SC-FDE in Amplify-and-Forward Relaying Networks)

  • 중계기를 활용한 다중 입출력 기술이 차세대 광대역 무선 이동 통선의 유력한 후보로 연구되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 AF (amplify-and-forward) 방식 중계기 네트워크에서 SC-FDE (single carrier-frequency domain equalizer)를 위한 MRC (maximum ratio combining) MMSE (minimum mean-square-error) 등화 기법을 제안한다. 송신국과 수신국 간의 전송 신호와, 중계기를 통한 송신국과 수신국 간의 전송 신호를 MRC 방식으로 합쳐 MMSE 등화 기법을 적용하면 다이버시티 이득과 MMSE 등화 이득을 모두 획득하여 SC-FDE 시스템의 수신 성능을 크게 향상시킬 수 있다. AF 방식 중계기 네트워크에서 SC-FDE를 위한 MRC 계수 및 MMSE 등화탭의 수식을 정확히 도출하여 제시하고, 실험 결과를 통해 성능 향상을 확인한다.

  • 본 논문에서는 다중 사용자 다중 안테나 하향링크 채널에서 실제 사용하는 BPSK, QPSK, 16QAM, 64QAM 변조방식을 적용하였을 때 얻을 수 있는 데이터 전송량을 최대화하기 위하여 generalized triangular decomposition (GTD) 기반의 적응적 자원할당 기법을 제안한다. 제안하는 기법은 자원 할당 시 데이터 전송량 뿐 아니라 부가적으로 에러확률을 고려하여 시스템의 에러확률 성능도 향상 시킨다. 모의실험을 통해 제안하는 기법은 이론적인 채널 전송량 대비 2bit 정도 차이까지 도달할 수 있고, 에러확률은 모든 신호 대 잡음비에서 singular-value decomposition (SVD) 기반 자원 할당 기법에 비해 우수함을 확인한다.

Enhanced Spatial Modulation of Indoor Visible Light Communication

  • In this study, we consider visible light communication in an indoor line-of-sight environment. It has been proved that among the multiple input multiple output (MIMO) techniques, spatial modulation (SM) performs better than repetition coding (RC) and spatial multiplexing (SMP). On the basis of a combination of SM and pulse amplitude modulation (PAM), here, we propose an enhanced SM algorithm to improve the bit error rate. Traditional SM activates only one light-emitting diode (LED) at one time, and the proposed enhanced SM activates two LEDs at one time and reduces the intensity levels of PAM by half. Under the condition of a highly correlated channel, power imbalance is used to improve the algorithm performance. The comparison between the two schemes is implemented at the same signal-to-noise ratio. The simulation results illustrate that the enhanced SM outperforms the traditional SM in both highly correlated and lowly correlated channels. Furthermore, the proposed enhanced SM scheme can increase the transmission rate in most cases.

Sum Rate Approximation of Zero-Forcing Beamforming with Semi-Orthogonal User Selection

  • In this paper, we present a closed-form approximation of the average sum rate of zero-forcing (ZF) beamforming (BF) with semi-orthogonal user selection (SUS). We first derive the survival probability associated with the SUS that absolute square of the channel correlation between two users is less than the orthogonalization level threshold (OLT).With this result, each distribution for the number of surviving users at each iteration of the SUS and the number of streams for transmission is calculated. Secondly, the received signal power of ZF-BF is represented as a function of the elements of the upper triangular matrix from QR decomposition of the channel matrix. Thirdly, we approximate the received signal power of ZF-BF with the SUS as the maximum of scaled chisquare random variables where the scaling factor is approximated as a function of both OLT and the number of users in the system. Putting all the above derivations and order statistics together, the approximated ergodic sum rate of ZF-BF with the SUS is shown in a closed form. The simulation results verify that the approximation tightly matches with the sample average for any OLT and even for a small number of users.

  • WiFi sensing integration enables non-intrusive and is utilized in applications like Human Activity Recognition (HAR) to leverage Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) systems and Channel State Information (CSI) data for accurate signal monitoring in different fields, such as smart environments. The complexity of extracting relevant features from CSI data poses computational bottlenecks, hindering real-time recognition and limiting deployment on resource-constrained devices. The existing methods sacrifice accuracy for computational efficiency or vice versa, compromising the reliability of activity recognition within pervasive environments. The lightweight Compact Convolutional Transformer (CCT) algorithm proposed in this work offers a solution by streamlining the process of leveraging CSI data for activity recognition in such complex data. By leveraging the strengths of both CNNs and transformer models, the CCT algorithm achieves state-of-the-art accuracy on various benchmarks, emphasizing its excellence over traditional algorithms. The model matches convolutional networks' computational efficiency with transformers' modeling capabilities. The evaluation process of the proposed model utilizes self-collected dataset for CSI WiFi signals with few daily activities. The results demonstrate the improvement achieved by using CCT in real-time activity recognition, as well as the ability to operate on devices and networks with limited computational resources.

  • 본 논문에서는 압전 세라믹 재료를 작동기 및 감지기로 이용한 사각 경계면이 고정된 얇은 사각평판의 능동 진동제어 방법을 제시한다. 실험 데이터에 기초한 다중 입출력계의 주파수영역 모델링방법을 이용하여 분포된 센서 및 구동기 특성이 포함된 구조물의 동적 특성이 규명된다. 제어기 구조로는 혼합형을 채택하고 되먹임 제어기는 LQG 제어기법에 의해 설계된다. 앞먹임 제어기는 다중 filtered-$x$ 최소자승오차법에 의해 적응되도록 한다. 진동제어에 대한 시뮬레이션 및 실험결과는 제안된 제어기법이 지속적 외란 및 과도적 외란에 효율적으로 적용될 수 있음을 보인다.

  • This paper analyzes the effectiveness of minimizing vibration and sound transmission on/through a thin rectangular plate by both feedback control and hybrid control which combines adaptive feedforward control with a feedback loop. An experimental system identification technique using the matrix-fractional curve-fitting of the frequency response data is introduced for complex shaped structures. This identification technique reduces the model order o the MIMO(Multi-Input Multi-Output) system which simplifies the practical implementation. The adaptive feedforward control uses a Multiple filtered-x LMS(Least Mean Square) algorithm and the feedback control uses a multivariable digital LQG(Linear Quadratic Gaussian) algorithm. Experimental results show that an effective reduction of sound transmission is achieved by the hybrid control scheme when both vibration and noise measurement signals are incorporated in the controller.

차분 선부호화 구조를 적용한 LTE-A 상향링크 시스템의 성능분석 (Preformance Analysis of LTE-A System Uplink with Differential Precoding Scheme)

  • LTE 시스템에서는 폐회로 기반의 다중 안테나 기술이 적용되었으며, 차분 코드북을 비롯한 다양한 다중 안테나 기반의 선부호화 기술들이 향상된 LTE (LTE-Advanced) 시스템의 요구조건을 만족시키기 위해 제안되었다. 차분 코드북 설계와 관련하여 이전에 연구된 내용은 준 대각(quasi-diagonal) 단위 행렬 및 구면 캡(spherical cap)에 중점을 두었지만, 이는 동 이득 성질을 만족하지 못한다. 동 이득 성질은 특히 상향 링크에서 첨두 전력 대 평균 전력비 (PAPR)에 상당한 영향을 미치므로 매우 중요하다. 본 논문에서는 각 송신 안테나에 동 이득을 유지하는 성질을 이용한 새로운 차분 코드북을 상향 링크 기반 차분 선부호화 시스템에 적용하고, 이를 통해 비트 오류율(BER)과 첨두 전력 대 평균 전력비를 분석하였다. 특히, 송신기의 비선형 증폭기를 고려하여 다양한 차분 선부호화 기법들의 성능을 분석하였다. 모의 실험을 통해 선형 증폭기를 고려할 경우 기존에 제안된 차분 코드북이 우수한 성능을 보이지만, 비선형 증폭기를 고려할 경우에는 제안하는 차분 코드북의 우수함을 증명하였다.
