  • This study investigated the relationship between land cover and the water quality variables in the rivers, which are located in the Yamaguchi prefecture of West Japan. The study area included 12 catchments covering $5,809\;Km^2$. pH, dissolved oxygen, suspended solid, E. coli, total nitrogen and total phosphorus were considered as river water quality variables. Satellite data was applied to generate land cover map. For linking alterations in land cover (at whole catchment and buffer zone levels) and the river water quality variables, multiple regression modeling was applied. The results indicated that non-spatial attribute (%) of land cover types (at whole catchment level) consistently explained high amounts of variation in biological oxygen demand (72%), suspended solid (72%) and total nitrogen (87%). At buffer zone-scale, multiple regression models that were developed to represent the linkage between the alterations of land cover and the river water quality variables could also explain high level of total variations in suspended solid (86%) and total nitrogen (91%).

  • This study aims to analyze the relations among greenbelt, air pollution empirically in order to assess the environmental effects of the greenbelt in the Seoul metropolitan area, objectively. For this purpose, this study conducts an empirical analysis of impacts of greenbelt on urban air pollution using a multiple-regression model. The major findings are summarized as follows. As a result of an empirical analysis of the impacts of greenbelt on air pollution, it is found that the characteristics of the city have impacts on air pollution concentration. It is found that the population and employment are the causes of increases in CO and NO2 concentrations, and the number of employees in the manufacturers has impacts on increases of O3 and SO2, while power plants have impacts on PM10, CO and NO2. Intersections have impacts on O3 and SO2, while the areas of the roads have impacts on CO and NO2. In addition, as for the spatial distribution of air pollutants, it is found that CO and NO2 concentrations are relatively higher in the center of the Seoul metropolitan area, while PM10, O3 and SO2 concentrations are relatively higher in the suburbs. It is found that air pollution concentration is low in greenbelt zone. In the greenbelt zone, PM10, CO and SO2 concentrations are low.

  • Most existing methods for the footing settlement estimation are for either isolated or strip footings. No sufficient details are available for settlement calculation of footings with different shapes and multiple footing conditions, which are commonly adopted in actual construction projects. In this paper, estimation of footing settlements for various footing conditions of different shapes and multiple conditions is investigated based on Schmertmann's method with focus on values of the strain influence factor $I_z$. In order to examine the effect of multiple footing conditions, field plate load tests are performed in sands using single and double plates. 3D non-linear finite element analyses are also performed for various footing conditions with different footing shape and distance ratios. Results obtained in this study indicate that there are two significant components in the strain influence diagram that need to be taken into account for settlement estimation of rectangular and multiple footings: depth of $I_{zp}$ and depth of strain influence zone. Based on results from experimental and 3D non-linear finite element analyses, improved strain influence diagrams available for various footing conditions are proposed.

  • It has been growing interests that convergence services of broadcasting and telecommunication services such as DMB 2.0 and Mobile IPTV etc. Unicast type is difficult to service broadcasting due to limits of capacity and poor receiving environments, WiBro supports broadcast service with MBS. MBS is transmission method that base stations belong to same the MBS zone transmit the all users who request broadcasting service. Terminals are received resources from all base station in the MBS zone and SINR can be improved because of macro diversity. If terminals are located at edge of the MBS zone, complement algorithm are needed beacause received SINR is very low. In this paper, MIMO STBC, Relay and FFR are introduced to improve the throughputs using high MCS. The basic simulation environment is assumed to be SISO. Transparent relay and FFR applicable on MBS are divided by SISO and MIMO STBC environment and evaluate the performance.

  • GIS has been regarded as one of important tools or methodologies for various geoscience applications. Recently, spatial data integration schemes for site-specific or field-specific thematic mapping are newly developed and utilized. However, these kinds of approaches are somewhat insufficient quantitative assessment of integrated layers towards known targets in-detailed . Moreover, GIS analysis scheme is rarely extended to scientific approaches. In this study, simple approach of Multi-Buffer Zone Analysis , related to GIS analystical aspect, is addressed and an actual application for predicting or favorable mapping of mineral occurrences, one of GIS-based geoscientific approaches, is performed, As for geo-processing in GIS itself, this scheme can be regarded as extension or adaptiation of cell-based buffering or proximity analysis to geoscientific data interpretation. This study is based on rationale that surface geological pattern around primitives such as a point, a line, or a polygon in GIS, representing significant geological features, can be efficiently utilized to delineate complex geological behaviors or events, especially handling multiple dta sets originated from multiple sources such as airborne geophysical/radiometric exploration, field survey, and even a classified image of remote sensing. Conclusively, this methodology associated wit GIS is though to be helpful to analyze the spatial pattern of multiple data, pointing given sources, and is expected to effectively utilize for exploratory analysis of cell-based resultant layer integrated with complex or different data sources.

  • Background: The aim of this study was to determine the survival rate of patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who were preoperatively diagnosed with a negative N2 lymph node, but postoperatively confirmed as a positive N2 node based on a pathological evaluation. Materials and Methods: The hospital records of 248 patients from 1994 to 2009 with resected primary NSCLC who were preoperatively diagnosed with negative N2 lymph node, were retrospectively reviewed. Of these, after surgery, there were 148 (59.7%) patients with pathological N0, 54 (21.8%) with pathological N1 and 46 (18.5%) with pathological N2. Results: The median follow-up period was 24 months (range, 1 to 132 months). The 5-year disease free survival rates were 60% in pN0, 44% in pN1, and 29% in pN2. The 5-year overall survival rates were 63.1% in pN0, 51.9% in pN1, and 33.5% in pN2. There were no statistically significant differences between pN1 and pN2 (p=0.326 and p=0.106, respectively). Thirty-three (71.7%) of the 46 pN2 patients had single-zone metastasis, and 13 patients (28.3%) had multiple-zone metastases over the two nodal zone metastasis. There were no statistical differences in the 5-year disease free survival rate and the 5-year overall survival rates between the two groups. Conclusion: The 5-year disease free survival and the overall survival rate of the patients with unsuspected N2 disease were statistically similar with that of the patients with pathological N1 disease. There was no statistically significant difference between the patients with a single-zone metastasis and a multiple zone metastasis.

  • In this paper, we designed a tabletop display which enables two viewers each to see a different image simultaneously within his/her defined viewing zone. In order to construct the designed viewing zones, we found the basic design conditions for a parallax barrier with a commercial LCD panel. As the viewing zones for two viewers are formed with only two view-point design, the interval between the center positions of each viewing zone and the width of each viewing zone are small compared to designed values. We analyzed the primary cases, introduced two modified design methods to enlarge the interval and the width of the viewing zones, and simulated their characteristics. As designed with six unit view-point and each viewing zone of each viewer is formed with a merged view-point, we found that adequate interval and width of viewing zones can be made, and we verified it in comparison with the tabletop display module that we fabricated.

  • Hand injury in children was increased due to multiple environmental risks and failed attention of parents to children in rapidly developing society. By the results of this evaluation in 37 cases, it was summarized as follows. First, hand injuries in children most commonly occurs in spring, and occurs more commonly in the children at the age of high activity. The most common level of injury is zone I by microreplantation zone, and zone II by tendon injury zone. The more desirable results were obtained by full thickness skin graft and composite graft if it were possible. For the better functional results compare to adults, the methods and procedures must be constructed after more evaluation with more clinical cases. In the cases of pediatric hand injury, the most important fact is prevention of injury, with the close attention by parents, and the second is appropriate diganosis and treatment for more functional results.

  • A subcarrier allocation scheme for base station (BS), relay station (RS) and mobile station (MS) can affect the performance of orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) relay systems. In this paper, we propose a subcarrier allocation scheme with inter-cell interference and network coding in OFDMA relay systems. In the network coding zone, we consider an environment where RS can transmit a frame to BS and MS simultaneously. We divide an OFDMA frame into downlink zone, uplink zone, and network coding zone. The proposed scheme allocates subcarriers to BS, RS, and MS for each zone with consideration of inter-cell interference in OFDMA relay systems. We evaluate the performance of the proposed subcarrier allocation scheme through simulation.

  • Currently, the wireless network environment of air node is constructed mainly of ground relay station. However, as the Korean Peninsula is composed of 70% mountainous region, there are multiple shadow zones. This is calling for effective measures to prevent aircraft from losing communication link during low-mid altitude missions. In this article we propose the utilization of Bezier Curve for estimation of aircraft flight path and control method for entering shadow zone. This method successfully estimated aircraft track, and analyzed the existence, disseminated the warning, and took measures to avoid the shadow zone before entering. This article, suggested after simulated experiments, proves that the method enables seamless communication during air operations.
