  • Many bridges are subject to lateral damage for their girders due to impact by over-height vehicles collision. In this study, the optimum configurations of carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP) laminates were investigated to repair the laterally damaged prestressed concrete (PS) bridge girders. Experimental and analytical investigations were conducted to study the flexural behavior of 13 half-scale AASHTO type II PS girders under both static and fatigue loading. Lateral impact damage due to vehicle collision was simulated by sawing through the concrete of the bottom flange and slicing through one of the prestressing strands. The damaged concrete was repaired and CFRP systems (longitudinal soffit laminates and evenly spaced transverse U-wraps) were applied to restore the original flexural capacity and mitigate debonding of soffit CFRP longitudinal laminates. In addition to the static load tests for ten girders, three more girders were tested under fatigue loading cycles to investigate the behavior under simulated traffic conditions. Measurements of the applied load, the deflection at five different locations, strains along the cross-section height at mid-span, and multiple strains longitudinally along the bottom soffit were recorded. The study investigated and recommended the proper CFRP repair design in terms of the CFRP longitudinal layers and U-wrapping spacing to obtain flexural capacity improvement and desired failure modes for the repaired girders. Test results showed that with proper detailing, CFRP systems can be designed to restore the lost flexural capacity, sustain the fatigue load cycles, and maintain the desired failure mode.

  • Purpose: Dermatofibroma is a lesion several millimeters to several centimeters in size, arising from dermis or subcutaneous tissue, mostly at extremities of a middle aged female. It is a benign fibrous tumor that to our knowledge metastasis have not been reported and may recur only locally. Here we report a rare case of 36-year-old female with dermatofibroma arising from back and metastasized to both lungs. Methods: We performed an en-block elliptical mass excision for skin lesion and metastatectomy for multiple nodules of both lungs. Results: Histologically, the tumors of both lungs and skin lesion showed dilated cystic airspaces which were lined by respiratory epithelium with underlying layers of tumor cells. The tumor cells were composed of plump to spindled fibrohistiocytic cells arranged in storiform growth pattern. There were no cellular pleomorphism, atypical mitosis, and necrosis. These are the specific features of a dermatofibroma and we could examined the histologic findings of skin and lungs identical. Thus, this indicates that dermatofibroma of back was metastasized to both lungs. Conclusion: We report this case to notice that dermatofibroma is a benign tumor but it rarely metastasizes.

  • Recently, most studies concerning inorganic CdSe/ZnS quantum dot (QD)-polymer hybrid LEDs have been concentrated on the structure with multiple layers [1,2]. The QD LEDs used almost CdSe materials for color reproduction such as blue, green and red from the light source until current. However, since Cd is one of six substances banned by the Restriction on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive and classified into a hazardous substance for utilization and commercialization as well as for use in life, it was reported that the use of CdSe is not suitable to fabricate a photoelectronic device. In this work, we demonstrate a novel, simple and facile technique for the synthesis of ZnO-graphene quasi-core.shell quantum dots utilizing graphene nanodot in order to overcome Cd material including RoHS materials. Also, We investigate the optical and structural properties of the quantum dots using a number of techniques. In result, At the applied bias 10 V, the device produced bluish-white color of the maximum brightness 1118 cd/$m^2$ with CIE coordinates (0.31, 0.26) at the bias 10 V.

  • Order allocation is one of the most important decision-making problems of firms having significant influences on performances of themselves and the whole supply chain. Existing researches about order allocation have mainly focused on evaluating capabilities of directly connected suppliers so that it is hard to consider effects and interactions from undirected connections over multiple lower-layers. To alleviate the limitation, this paper proposed a novel approach to order allocation using structural hole. By applying the concept of structural hole to the supply network, we could evaluate the structural supplying powers of firms with respect to both of direct and indirect connections. In the proposed approach, we derived a methodology to measure the potential supplying power of each firm by modifying the effective size as one of the measurements of structural hole and then, proposed its application, the structural hole based order allocation strategy. Furthermore, we conducted the agent based modeling of supply chain to perform the decision-making process of order allocation and simulated the proposed strategy. As a results, by coping with the variance of demand more stably, it could improve the performance of supply chain from the aspects of fill rate, inventory level and demand-supply balance.

  • In this paper, a design of an offset Cassegrain antenna is proposed for Ku and Ka dual-band without increasing the antenna size. For Efficiency of computation and implementation, the frequency selectivity surface (FSS) of reflecting the Ka-band signal and passing the Ku-band is provided for the sub-reflector instead of the main reflector. The proposed FSS hyperboloid sub-reflector is the periodic structure of a unit cell comprising octagon metal rings embedded in the multiple layers. The proposed design is verified for 19 GHz and 45 GHz bands by the use of precise electromagneitc-field simulations.

  • Complete removal of three-compartment trigeminal schwannomas is a challenge to neurosurgeons. To expand exposure of each compartment, the combination and modification of skull base approaches are necessary. The 61-year-old woman was admitted with chronic headache. Preoperative magnetic resonance imaging showed $47{\times}50{\times}40\;mm$-sized tumor originating primarily in the middle cranial fossa extended to the posterior and the infratemporal fossa. We performed operation in five stage; 1. Zygomatic osteotomy, 2. Inferior temporal fossa plate removal and foramen ovale opening, 3. Cavernous sinus opening, 4. Tailored anterior petrosectomy, 5. Meckel's cave opening. Combination of skull base surgery should be concerned according to the patient. In this study, extradural basal extension with zygomatic osteotomy, interdural posterior extension with tailored anterior petrosectomy, and intracavemous exploration are reasonable options for remodeling three-compartment lesion into a single compartment. Tailoring of bone resection and exploring through natural pathway between meningeal layers accomplish single-stage operation for complete removal of tumors.

  • In this work, we review the routing models that use game theoretical methodologies. A very common assumption in the analysis and development of networking algorithms is the full cooperation of the participating nodes. Most of the analytical tools are based on this assumption. However, the reality may differ considerably. The existence of multiple domains belonging to different authorities or even the selfishness of the nodes themselves could result in a performance that significantly deviates from the expected one. Even though it is known to be extensively used in the fields of economics and biology, game theory has attracted the interest of researchers in the field of communication networking as well. Nowadays, game theory is used for the analysis and modeling of protocols in several layers, routing included. This review aims at providing an elucidation of the terminology and principles behind game theory and the most popular and recent routing models. The examined networks are both the traditional networks where latency is of paramount importance and the emerging ad hoc and sensor networks, where energy is the main concern.

  • An InGaN/GaN multiple quantum well (MQW) structure is grown on a GaN/sapphire template using a plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy (PA-MBE). The fluctuation of the quantum well thickness formed from roughly-grown InGaN layer results in a disordered photoluminescence (PL) spectrum. The surface morphologies of the InGaN layers with various In compositions are investigated by reflection high energy electron diffraction (RHEED) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). A blurred InGaN/GaN hetero-interface and the non-uniform QW size is confirmed by high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM). Inhomogeneity of the quantum confinement results in a degradation of the quantum efficiency even though the InGaN layer has a uniform In composition.

  • White light scanning interferometry is increasingly used for precision profile metrology of engineering surfaces, but its current application is primarily limited to opaque surfaces with relatively simple optical reflection behaviors. In this paper, a new attempt is made to extend the interferometric method to the thickness profile measurement of transparent thin film layers. An extensive frequency domain analysis of multiple reflection is performed to allow both the top and bottom interfaces of a thin film layer to be measured independently at the same time using nonlinear least squares technique. This rigorous approach provides not only point-by-point thickness probing but also complete volumetric film profiles digitized in three dimensions.
