In this paper, we designed and implemented the dual band monopole antenna for cellular CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) and IMT-2000(International Mobile Telecommunication 2000) repeater. The antenna was designed by using 3D simulations program, HFSS(High Frequency Structure Simulator). Electrical characteristics were measured by using HP 8720C network analyzer and measured maximum S$\_$11/ was -10.9 dB for all frequency bands of interests in Cellular CDMA and IMT-2000. Simulation results for antenna gain at 859 MHz and 2027.5 MHz were 2.38 dBi and 4.02 dBi respectively with omni directional radiation pattern. The size of implemented antenna is compact and the antenna can be produced in low cost enough for commercialization.
We investigate the connectivity of fading wireless ad-hoc networks with a pair of novel connectivity metrics. Our first metric looks at the problem of connectivity relying on the outage capacity of MIMO channels. Our second metric relies on a probabilistic treatment of the symbol error rates for such channels. We relate both capacity and symbol error rates to the characteristics of the underlying communication system such as antenna configuration, modulation, coding, and signal strength measured in terms of signal-to-interference-noise-ratio. For each metric of connectivity, we also provide a simplified treatment in the case of ergodic fading channels. In each case, we assume a pair of nodes are connected if their bi-directional measure of connectivity is better than a given threshold. Our analysis relies on the central limit theorem to approximate the distribution of the combined undesired signal affecting each link of an ad-hoc network as Gaussian. Supported by our simulation results, our analysis shows that (1) a measure of connectivity purely based on signal strength is not capable of accurately capturing the connectivity phenomenon, and (2) employing multiple antenna mobile nodes improves the connectivity of fading ad-hoc networks.

A reverberation chamber is widely used in mobile handset measurements due to its faster and simpler measurement process compared to traditional anechoic chambers. We propose an ultra-wideband inverse conical antenna design suitable as a reference antenna in a reverberation chamber. Traditionally, multiple discone antennas are needed to cover more than 10:1 operation bandwidth of a reverberation chamber. The proposed inverse conical antenna offers wideband impedance matching bandwidth by virtue of the linear impedance transition along its oblique side. The antenna is feasible to mount on the conductive walls which can be utilized as a ground to improve the matching bandwidth, antenna gain and radiation patterns. The antenna geometry is optimized using a 3D electromagnetic simulation tool and fabricated using a 3D printer. The measured results show that the antenna reflection coefficient lower than -10dB and radiation efficiency more than 70% at the frequency range of 0.65~7 GHz.
The wireless transmission medium inherently broadcasts a signal to all neighbor nodes in the transmission range. Existing asynchronous MAC protocols do not provide a concrete solution for reliable broadcast in link layer. This mainly comes from that an omni-directional broadcasting causes to reduce the network performance due to the explosive collisions and contentions. This paper proposes a reliable broadcast protocol in link taller based on directional antennas, named MDB(MAC protocol for Directional Broadcasting). This protocol makes use of DAST(Directional Antennas Statement Table) information and D-MACA(Directional Multiple Access and Collision Avoidance) scheme through 4-way handshake to resolve the many collision problem wit]1 omni-directional antenna. To analyze its performance, MDB protocol is compared with IEEE 802.11 DCF protocol [9] and the protocol 2 of reference [3], in terms of the success rate of broadcast and the collision rate. As a result of performance analysis through simulation, it was confirmed that the collision rate of the MDB protocol is lower than those of IEEE 802.11 and the protocol 2 of reference [3], and that the completion rate of broadcast of MDB protocol is higher than those of IEEE 802.11 and the protocol 2 of reference [3].
In order to reduce the size of the previous stepped slot antenna for UWB applications(3.1 ~ 10.6 GHz) to half, an open ended stepped slot antenna is proposed. The proposed antenna consists of a stepped slot etched on the ground plane as radiation part and a microstrip feed-line with rectangular patch on the top plane for wideband impedance matching. The proposed antenna is designed and fabricated on the FR4 substrate with dielectric constant of 4.3, thickness of 1.6 mm and size of $28.5{\times}32mm^2$. The measured impedance bandwidth (${\mid}S_{11}{\mid}{\leq}-10dB$) of the fabricated antenna is 7.99 GHz(3.01~11 GHz) which is sufficient to cover UWB band (3.1 ~ 10.6 GHz). In particular, it has been observed that antenna has a good omnidirectional radiation patterns and high gain over the entire frequency band of interest even though the size of the proposed antenna is reduced to half when compared with the previous antenna.

Several studies made for wireless mesh networks aim to optimize the capacity for wireless networks. Aside from protocol improvements, researches were also done on the physical layer particularly on modulation techniques and antenna efficiency schemes. This paper is concerned with the capacity improvements derived from using spatial diversity with smart adaptive array antennas. The use of spatial diversity, which has been widely proposed for use in cellular networks in order to lessen frequency re-use, can be used in mesh networks both to minimize co-channel interference (CCI) and enable multiple transmissions. This paper aims to study the capacity region and bounds in using smart antennas for single-channel multi-radio systems in relation to the number of spatial diversity or sectors as defined by the beam angle $\beta$.

In this paper, a novel rectangular patch antenna is proposed to have Zeroth Order Resonance(ZOR) generated based on the Metamaterial Complosite Right- and Left-Handed(CRLH) structure. Making the in-phase electric field over the entire antenna other than a half-wavelength as the fundamental resonance mode of a standard microstrip patch or its positive multiple, the metallic patch is suggested to be capacitively coupled with only one surrounding rectangular ring, different from the previous 1D ZOR antennas commonly having several metal cells in line. The performance of the proposed antenna is simulated by a 3D field solver that inputs the sizes of the physical structure corresponding to the equivalent circuit designed to have ZOR at 2.4 GHz. Consequently, the resonance frequency, the gain and the antenna efficiency are observed 2.4 GHz, 5 dB and 98%, respectively. Besides, the important property of the proposed antenna is addressed as the combination of the low profile as an advantage of microstrip patch antennas, and the omni-directional field pattern typical of monopole antennas.

In multiple antenna systems, spatial facing correlation causes a significant degradation in performance. In this work, a method for reducing the sensitivity to spatial fading correlation through the bi-directional use of spatial resources is investigated. Firstly, the concept of bi-directional use of spatial resources is introduced. Then, the ability of this technique to reduce the sensitivity to spatial fading correlation is then shown through an analysis of the number of usable eigenmodes (UEMs). This system is found to efficiently reduce the sensitivity to spatial fading correlation.

In a traditional phased array radar, closely spaced antenna elements transmit a scaled version of single waveform to maximize the signal energy. On the contrary, a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar consists of widely separated antennas and transmits an arbitrary waveform from each antenna element. These waveforms and spatial diversity enable superior capabilities compared with phased array radar. At high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), the detection performance of the MIMO radar is better than the phased array radar due to the diversity gains. However, the phased array radar outperforms the MIMO radar at low SNR, due to the energy maximization. In this paper, we investigate the compromised scheme between the MIMO radar and the phased array radar. Employing the MIMO radar equipped with phased array elements, the compromised scheme achieves both array gain and diversity gain. Also, we compare the performance degradation when the steering direction is incorrect.

It's introduced a BLA(Branch Loop Antenna) that is modified from conventional loop, and verified antenna performances for applying to mobile handset. Branch elements are added to a rectangular loop, and low resonance is obtained by the length of the branch line. When resonance frequency of a single loop is 2.5GHz, BLA had near 900 MHz under the same antenna size. Multiple resonances are established by the locations of branch connection and their lengths. By the implementation and measurement for the dual band BLA, it's showed 75MHz -10dB bandwidth and -3.03~-1.46dBi average gains with 49.73~71.39% efficiencies at GSM900 band, and 90MHz -6dB bandwidth and -8.14~-2.17dBi average gains with 15.34~60.62% efficiencies at DCS1900 band. And H-plane radiation patterns were omni-directional. These performances are good for the mobile handset antenna.
