  • A general equivalent circuit model is developed for a wireless energy transfer system composed of multiple coils via coupled magnetic resonances. To verify the developed model, four types of wireless energy transfer systems are fabricated, measured, and compared with simulation results. To model a system composed of n-coils, node equations are built in the form of an n-by-n matrix, and the equivalent circuit model is established using an electric design automation tool. Using the model, we can simulate systems with multiple coils, power sources, and loads. Moreover, coupling constants are extracted as a function of the distance between two coils, and we can predict the characteristics of a system having coils at an arbitrary location. We fabricate four types of systems with relay coils, two operating frequencies, two power sources, and the function of characteristic impedance conversion. We measure the characteristics of all systems and compare them with the simulation results. The flexibility of the developed model enables us to design and optimize a complicated system consisting of many coils.

  • This study presents a contaminant transport model suitable for a 2-dimensional heterogeneous aquifer with multiple contaminant sources. It uses a streamline simulation, which transforms a multi-dimensional problem into multiple 1dimensional problems. It runs flow simulation, streamline tracking, and calculation of contaminant concentrations by turns. The model is verificated with a Visual MODFLOW by comparing contaminant concentration distributions and breakthrough curves at an observation well. Due to its fast simulation, it can be applied to time consuming simulations such as in a fine-grided aquifer, an inverse modeling and other applications.

  • It was investigated thermal performances on two array types of a serial circulation and a two-way parallel circulation for six water-cooled cold plates covered with non-metallic material (polycarbonate, PC) to reduce weight of the cooling devices for humanoid robot cooling. Six cold plates attached on $10{\times}10\;mm^2$ copper base : $0.5{\times}0.5\;mm^2$ pin-finned surfaces of 1.5 mm high with 0.5 mm array spacing, was mounted on six copper heating blocks with isothermal conditions of $50{\sim}90^{\circ}C$, respectively. In order to compare thermal characteristics according to two circulation types, the surface temperatures of heating blocks and the cooling water temperatures at inlets and outlets of cold plates were measured. From the results, it was found that a two-way parallel circulation was better performance than a serial circulation in terms of total thermal resistance, total heat transfer rate, and surface temperature rises from $1^{st}$ heating block to last one for six multiple cold plates.

  • Purpose The proliferation of data on the internet has created a need for innovative methods to analyze user satisfaction data. Traditional survey methods are becoming inadequate in dealing with the increasing volume and diversity of data, and new methods using unstructured internet data are being explored. While numerous comment-based user satisfaction studies have been conducted, only a few have explored user satisfaction through video and audio data. Multimodal sentiment analysis, which integrates multiple modalities, has gained attention due to its high accuracy and broad applicability. Design/methodology/approach This study uses multimodal sentiment analysis to analyze user satisfaction of iPhone and Samsung products through online videos. The research reveals that the combination model integrating multiple data sources showed the most superior performance. Findings The findings also indicate that price is a crucial factor influencing user satisfaction, and users tend to exhibit more positive emotions when content with a product's price. The study highlights the importance of considering multiple factors when evaluating user satisfaction and provides valuable insights into the effectiveness of different data sources for sentiment analysis of product reviews.

  • This paper presents techniques for estimating directions of multiple sound sources ranging from $0^{\circ}$ to $360^{\circ}$ using circular probability distributions having a periodic property. Phase differences containing direction information of sources can be modeled as mixtures of multiple probability distributions and source directions can be estimated by maximizing log-likelihood functions. Although the von Mises distribution is widely used for analyzing this kind of periodic data, we define a new class of circular probability distributions from Gaussian and Laplacian distributions by adopting a modulo operation to have $2{\pi}$-periodicity. Direction estimation with these circular probability distributions is done by implementing corresponding EM (Expectation-Maximization) algorithms. Simulation results in various reverberant environments confirm that Laplacian distribution provides better performance than von Mises and Gaussian distributions.

  • In order perform high accuracy recognition of text recognition systems, the recognized text must be processed through a post-processing stage using contextual information. We present a system that combines multiple knowledge sources to post-process the output of an optical character recognition(OCR) system. The multiple knowledge sources include characteristics of word, wrongly recognized types of Hangul characters, and Hangul word learning In this paper, the wrongly recognized characters which are made by OCR systems are collected and analyzed. We imput a Korean dictionary with approximately 15 0,000 words, and Korean language texts of Korean elementary/middle/high school. We found that only 10.7% words in Korean language texts of Korean elementary/middle /high school were used in a Korean dictionary. And we classified error types of Korean character recognition with OCR systems. For Hangul word learning, we utilized indexes of texts. With these multiple knowledge sources, we could predict a proper word in large candidate words.

  • With the increasing use of drone technology, the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) is now being utilized in various fields. However, this increased use of drones has resulted in various issues. Due to its small size, the drone is difficult to detect with radar or optical equipment, so acoustical tracking methods have been recently applied. In this paper, a method of localization of multiple drones using the acoustic characteristics of the quadcopter drone is suggested. Because the acoustic characteristics induced by each rotor are differentiated depending on the type of drone and its movement state, the sound source of the drone can be reconstructed by spatially clustering the results of the estimated positions of the blade passing frequency and its harmonic sound source. The reconstructed sound sources are utilized to finally determine the location of multiple-drone sound sources by applying the source localization algorithm. An experiment is conducted to analyze the acoustic characteristics of the test quadcopter drones, and the simulations for three different types of drones are conducted to localize the multiple drones based on the measured acoustic signals. The test result shows that the location of multiple drones can be estimated by utilizing the acoustic characteristics of the drone. Also, one can see that the clarity of the separated drone sound source and the source localization algorithm affect the accuracy of the localization for multiple-drone sound sources.

  • This paper proposes a new nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF) based direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation method for multiple sound sources using a dual microphone array. First of all, sound signals coming from the dual microphone array are segmented into consecutive analysis frames, and a steered-response power phase transform (SRP-PHAT) beamformer is applied to each frame so that stereo signals of each frame are represented in a time-direction domain. The time-direction outputs of SRP-PHAT are stored for a pre-defined number of frames, which is referred to as a time-direction block. Next, In order to estimate DOAs robust to noise, each time-direction block is normalized along the time by using a block subtraction technique. After that, an unsupervised NMF method is applied to the normalized time-direction block in order to cluster the directions of each sound source in a multiple sound source environments. In particular, the activation and basis matrices are used to estimate the number of sound sources and their DOAs, respectively. The DOA estimation performance of the proposed method is evaluated by measuring a mean absolute error (MAE) and the standard deviation of errors between the oracle and estimated DOAs under a three source condition, where the sources are located in [$-35{\circ}$, 5m], [$12{\circ}$, 4m], and [$38{\circ}$, 4.m] from the dual microphone array. It is shown from the experiment that the proposed method could relatively reduce MAE by 56.83%, compared to a conventional SRP-PHAT based DOA estimation method.

  • Among the various sources of vehicle interior noise, this paper concerns the road induced noise ; the identification of its transfer path by using experimental method. Multiple input and single output model is taken as a noise generation model. Because it is impossible to measure the road imput forces directly, the acceleration signals are measured on four axle;three directions for each point. By considering the cross correlations of input signals, four uncorrelated source groups are taken. Multiple coherence function is employed to investigate the contribution of each group. In addtion, to identify the detailed path through the suspension systems, the contributions of all possible paths are ranked by using the coherence functions between interior noise and the relative accelerations of connections such as bushings and mountings. Measurements are performed with passenger vehicle traveling on concrete and asphalt roads at 60㎞/h.
