  • This paper presents a simple resource allocation scheme for throughput enhancement in relay based orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) cellular systems. The resource allocation schemes, which are based on the optimization problem, have high computational complexity. That is why a searching process is required on the overall allocable resources. Since these schemes should be performed in real time, we propose a simple resource allocation scheme which has very low computational complexity. Firstly, we formulate the optimization problem and draw observations for throughput maximization. Based on observations, we propose a three step allocation scheme that separates the allocable resources into three (i.e. relay, frequency and time). By doing so, the computational complexity can be reduced. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme has near-optimum performance in spite of its low computational complexity.

  • This paper discusses multiple access control aspects for a wireless extension of high-speed asynchronous transfer mode(ATM) networks. One challenging requirement is that mobile systems convey of diverse types of information including voice, computer data, facsimile, and video data that have different quality of service constraints. Basically, a centralized control scheme for a coordinated multiple access is required in order to efficiently accommodate multimedia traffic on wireless links. The proposed scheme dynamically scheduling the mobile terminal, which has data to transfer according to the service, types at base station. In this scheme, the scheduling algorithm is performed on the basis of traffic descriptors and QoS parameters, which required in the connection set up phase. As a consequence, the transmission scheduling is very flexible and can account for the different traffic rate and delay constraints that emerge from voice and data integration. The simulation result shows that the proposed scheme has better performance over other scheduling algorithms.

  • In this paper, we propose a packet scheduling discipline called packet loss fair scheduling, in which the packet loss of each user from different real-time traffic is fairly distributed according to the quality of service requirements. We consider an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) system. The basic frame structure of the system is for the downlink in a cellular packet network, where the time axis is divided into a finite number of slots within a frame, and the frequency axis is segmented into subchannels that consist of multiple subcarriers. In addition, to compensate for fast and slow channel variation, we employ a link adaptation technique such as adaptive modulation and coding. From the simulation results, our proposed packet scheduling scheme can support QoS differentiations while guaranteeing short-term fairness as well as long-term fairness for various real-time traffic.

  • This paper proposes a packet-based channel access scheme in Distributed-Queuing Request Update Multiple Access(DQRUMA) MAC(Media Access Control) protocol. To increase a channel access ratio, we eliminate the wait-to-transmit state that does not transmit Xmt_Req(Transmission Request) although the mobile terminal(MS) has new arrival packets in buffer.

  • In this paper, we propose a cancellation scheme of multiple access interference (MAI), which is caused by carrier frequency offset, for the receiver of an interleaved orthogonal frequency division multiple access (IFDMA) uplink system. In the IFDMA systems, carrier frequency offsets introduce adjacent channel interference from other users' subcarriers, which results in performance degradation. In the proposed method, we compensate the carrier frequency offset in time domain and then eliminate MAI by using parallel interference cancellation in frequency domain. Simulation results show that the proposed method is effective in removing the MAI especially when the number of users are large and the MAI severely degrades the system performance.

  • Cyclic-Reservation Multiple-Access(CRMA) is an access scheme for high-speed local and metropolitan area networks based on folded-bus or dual-bus configurations. CRMA provides high throughput and fairness independent of the network speed or distance. This paper describes a simulation-based quantitative analysis of the performance gains obtained by introducing slot reuse in CRMA. Generally, a longer cycle length means a longer access delay and a lower throughput. There-fore, it is desirable to develop a scheme such that the cycle length is the shortest. In this paper, we will study the problem of reducing the total number of empty slots generated within every cycle. However, it has been shown that the problem is NP-complete under the constraint that all empty slots used by a station in a cycle are required to be consecutive. We present the algorithm that improves previous novel approach by using previous node information. We compare our slots reuse scheme with several slot reuse algorithms such as region scheme (FMR), address schemes, novel approach in terms of the following two important performance criteria: average cycle length and average slot utilization ratio. As compared with the one proposed in novel algorithm, the new scheme makes the cycle length much shorter. Besides, the resulting slot utilization and the access delay are better than those of the other two schemes.

  • This paper investigates a priority scheme for IEEE 802.11 Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) protocol in order to provide short access times for priority frames (e.g. time-deadline traffic) even when the overall traffic on the wireless channel is heavy. Under the compatibility constraint for the IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs, two priority systems are simulated: no priority (current IEEE 802.11 standard) for time-deadline traffics and dynamic time-deadline priority. We evaluate algorithms to improve the time-deadline traffic performance using discrete event simulation (DES)

  • Code division multiple access (CDMA) is one of the promising medium access control scheme for underwater acoustic sensor networks due to its beneficial features such as robustness against frequency-selective fading and high frequency-reuse efficiency. In this paper, we design a closed-loop power control scheme for the underwater CDMA, to adapt time-varying acoustic channel. In the proposed scheme, sink node sends to sensor nodes the associated path loss which is acquired by uplink-channel analysis based on received packets from the sensor nodes. Then, sensor nodes adjust their transmission power in an adaptive manner to time-varying underwater acoustic channel, according to the informations sent by the sink node.

  • In the multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system, orthogonal random beamforming (ORBF) scheme is proposed to serve multiple users simultaneously in order to achieve the multi-user diversity gain. The opportunistic space-division multiple access system (OSDMA-S) scheme performs multiple weighting matrices during the training phase and chooses the best weighting matrix to be used to broadcast data during the transmitting phase. The OSDMA-S scheme works better than the original ORBF by decreasing the inter-user interference during the transmitting phase. To save more time in the training phase, a partly random multiple weighting matrices selection scheme is proposed in this paper. In our proposed scheme, the Base Station does not need to use several unitary matrices to broadcast pilot symbol. Actually, only one broadcasting operation is needed. Each subscriber generates several virtual equivalent channels with a set of pre-saved unitary matrices and the channel status information gained from the broadcasting operation. The signal-to-interference and noise ratio (SINR) of each beam in each virtual equivalent channel is calculated and fed back to the base station for the weighting matrix selection and multi-user scheduling. According to the theoretical analysis, the proposed scheme relatively expands the transmitting phase and reduces the interactive complexity between the Base Station and subscribers. The asymptotic analysis and the simulation results show that the proposed scheme improves the throughput performance of the multi-user MIMO system.

  • This paper proposes a transmission probability control scheme for guaranteeing fair packet transmissions in CDMA slotted ALOHA system. In CDMA slotted ALOHA system, the packets transmitted in the same slot act as multiple access interference, so that unsuccessful packet transmissions are caused entirely by multiple access interference. Therefore, in order to maximize the system throughput, the number of simultaneously transmitted packets should be kept at a proper level. In the proposed scheme, the base station calculates the packet transmission probability of mobile stations in the next slot according to the offered load and then broadcasts this probability to all the mobile stations. Mobile stations, which have a packet to transmit, attempt to transmit packet with the received probability. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can offer better system throughput and average delay than the conventional scheme, and guarantee a good fairness among all mobile stations regardless of the offered load.
