Design and Implementation of a Digital Asset Manager for Contents Authoring Applications (컨텐츠 저작 응용을 위한 디지털 자산 관리자의 설계 및 구현)

  • Digital assets denote multimedia information that exists in the form of digitized materials such as images, audio, and video. The management of digital assets demands much effort because of a huge amount of storage space requirement and multidimensional characteristics of the information needed to describe their contents. In this paper, we design and implement a Digital Asset Manager that stores and manages digital assets efficiently. Among the various types of digital assets, we focus on the video asset which has the highest complexity. Our Digital Asset Manager provides various facilities for digital contents authoring applications. In the Digital Asset Manager, video assets are managed by using a hierarchical model in order to ensure efficient accesses to any part of a video asset. Our system also guarantees the independence from the storage platform, and provides a fast content-based similarity search method on the digital assets.

  • Computers can intensify the students' motivation and understanding about the solution to the problems in class, therefore, computers can be the most appropriate educational tools for the study of problem solving and have been also recognized as a representable study method in the information age, which can pass on various educational experience to the right place at the right time. Mutimedia producing tool helps us develop and maintain the educational courseware by way of using general technology of multimedia system. In this thesis, it presents the efficient development process of educational software by using mutimedia producing tool, its educational advantages and problems, and its future progress direction as well.

  • The cyber-education is fully recognized and proliferated such as to Internet language centers or virtual universities, and so on. However, the acquisition of e-learning tools as well as the construction of educational contents are quite difficult tasks. Therefore, in this study, important information for the acquisition of hardwares such as multimedia editing tools, servers, educational facilities is suggested, and the critical success factors for the acquisition of cyber educational solution softwares such as authoring tools and loaming management systems are proposed.

  • In this paper I will discuss definitions of hypermedia, multimedia and hypertext. Hypertext is the grouping of relevant information in the form of nodes. These nodes are then connected together through links. In the case of hypertext the nodes contain text or graphics. Multimedia is the combining of different media types for example sound, animation, text, graphics and video for the presentation of information by making use of computers. Hypermedia can be viewed as an extension of hypertext and multimedia. It is based on the concept of hypertext that uses nodes and links in the structuring of information in the system. In this case the nodes consist of an the different data types that are mentioned in the multimedia definition above. The 'node-and-link' concept is used in organisation of the information in hypermedia systems. The 'book' metaphor is an example of the way these systems are implemented. This concept is explained and a few advantages and disadvantages of making use of hypermedia systems are discussed. A new approach for the development of hypermedia systems, namely the knowledge-based approach is now looked into. Joel Peing-Ling Loo proposed this approach because he thought that it is the most effective way for handling this kind of technology. A semantic-based hypermedia model is developed in this approach to formulate solutions for the restrictions in presenting information authoring, maintenance and retrieval. The knowledge-based presentation of information includes the use of conventional data structures. These data structures make use of frames(objects), slots and the inheritance theory that is also used in expert systems. Relations develop between the different objects as these objects are included in the database. Relations can also exist between frames by means of attributes that belong to the frames.

  • 본 논문에서는 쉽고 융통성 있는 저작 시스템 개발을 목표로 다음과 같은 특징을 갖는 시스템을 설계하고 구현하였다. 첫째, 사용자가 멀티미디어 문서를 쉽게 저작하고 프리젠테이션 할 수 있는 시각 환경을 제공한다. 둘째, 실행중에 발생되는 미디어 실행시간 변경을 효과적으로 처리할 수 있는 인과성 시간 관계를 정의한다. 셋째, 저작 내용을 트리 형태의 내부 구조로 저장함으로써 효과적인 문서 파싱을 수행한다. 네째, 실행 시간의 효과적인 프리젠테이션과 사용자 상호 작용을 지원하기 위한 프리젠테이션 엔진을 개발한다. 본 시스템은 미디어간의 시간 관계를 인과성 관계에 기초하고 참조점 방식을 추가하여 정의함으로서, 수행시간이 변경되거나 사용자 상호 작용이 발생하더라도 융통성있는 프리젠테이션을 지원한다.

Authoring Support Technique Using Text Analysis-based Dialogue History Tracking (텍스트 분석 기반 대화 이력 추적을 이용한 작가 지원 기법)

  • This paper suggests methods to chronicle and track the history of dialogues exchanged among characters to prevent logical errors of a story. As for stories that are long with many characters, especially in full-length novels and co-written stories, cognitive burden is imposed on a writer. If the writer has confused understanding of a character, then a logical error would enter the story. This would compromise completeness and integrity of writing. Against the backdrop, this paper shows how dialogues among characters are chronicled and tracked by using the aforementioned tracking methods through design of a writer support system that relieves a writer's cognitive burden while supporting the writing and through an analysis of existing novels. In addition, we showed the accuracy results of average 68.5% through the performance evaluation of the query used in the dialogue history tracking.

The Development of Authoring Tool for Distance Education of Ubiquitous Environment (유비쿼터스 환경의 원격교육을 위한 저작도구의 개발)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop FVU, which enables teachers effectively to construct self-page on the screen, to reduce the size of file for teaching, and to correct many different kinds of event which was already made in the previous. The instrument used in the development of this Editor is UML(Unified Modeling Language), which is object-oriented methodology. The Authoring tool developed in this study is named FVU. The first page which is needed in class can be constructed by using VUEditor in FVU. Using VUEditor can get Instructional Syllabus exported into VUAuthor through Vector-transformation. Through this procedure, the size of image file comes to be reduced into forming low band width, which results in solving the problem of network traffic. Also, Instructor can create image, shape and text, and delete and correct errors or mistakes which make in the course of constructing materials for teaching. In conclusion, this VUEditor enables program designer to construct the first page, even without using such applied program as Image Tool and Power Point. This VUEditor makes instructor to make some contents for teaching easily.

  • As the existing edutainment contents for children are mostly comprised of educational tools which unilaterally induce educatees to passively respond to them, the content-creating methodologies in terms of which active and voluntary learning is made possible is urgently needed. In this paper, we present the implementation of the tangible 'electronic dice' interface as an interactive tool for behavior-based edutainment contents, and propose a methodology for developing edutainment contents for children by utilizing the recognition technique of hand movement based on depth-image information. Also proposed in the paper are an authoring and management tool of learning quizzes that allows educators to set up and manage their learning courseware, and a log analysis system of learning achievement for real-time monitoring of educational progress. The behavior-based tangible interface and edutainment contents that we propose provide the easy-to-operate interaction with a real object, which augments educatees' interest in learning, thus leading to their active and voluntary attitude toward learning. Furthermore, The authoring and management tool and log analysis system allow us to construct learning programs by children's achievement level and to monitor in real-time the learning development of children educatees by understanding the situation and behavior of their learning development from the analytic results obtained by observing the processes of educatees' solving problems for themselves, and utilizing them for evaluation materials for lesson plans.

  • Current flight maneuver diagram used by pilots is based on 2D spatial presentation, so it has limitation on display 3D flight information and hard to understand it instinctively. Flight animation authoring tools for this diagram are complex to use and lack useful features like non-linear editing of flight path and real-time interactivity on multiple aircrafts. This research focuses on 3D flight path generation method in the animation system for flight maneuver education. This research combines initial sketch input on 2D diagram with the thrust of an aircraft to generate 3D linear spline as close as to real flight. Using suggested linear spline creation method, the flight path can be visualized, edited, and animated in real-time at the flight maneuver briefing and debriefing.

  • This study aims to develop a sort of expert system to simulate Internet of Things (IoT) service in architectural design alternatives and enhance the simulation performance using building information. The proposed protype system, named iotBIM, visualizes human behaviors and IoT services in a virtual place that is automatically generated from among design alternatives. We use commercial building information modeling (BIM) authoring tool for the development of iotBIM. The decision to develop iotBIM on the BIM platform was made because BIM tools already generate precise 3D models of design alternatives; iotBIM is plugged into the BIM tool as a simulation module. In the midst of the design process, architectural designers can activate iotBIM to investigate and establish IoT services that accord visually with design alternatives. The purpose of this study is to provide a theoretical and technological basis for the ultimate goal of this study.
