UX Design for Digital TV Platform (디지털 TV 플랫폼의 UX 디자인)

  • TV businesses that have brought a competitive structure in terms of price, definition, product design for a long time now are bringing User eXperience (UX) into relief as DTVs come to support broadcast information-related services such as various broadcast channels and Electronic Program Guide(EPG), etc., and playing of multimedia contents like music/videos, etc. This study worked on an evaluation by developing a UI to control easily the various and complex broadcast contents or multimedia contents provided by DTVs. The UI Design for new DTVs was developed based on Function, Flow and Form in the concept of Single ABC (Access, Browser and Control), and the usability test of the developed UI concept along with the UIs of the major DTV products, was done for Channel Managers and the multimedia browsers for 32 users of DTVs in the U.K./U.S., respectively. As a result of the usability test, the new concept of Channel Manager was evaluated high both in the U.K./U.S, while the multimedia browser was evaluated low in the U.S., relatively.

Design of a Database Query Language for Multimedia Presentation (멀티미디어 프리젠테이션을 위한 데이타베이스 질의어 설계)

  • In multimedia database system, it is very important issue how to query multimedia data and present the result of query. Also, in order to reuse the query result in other applications, multimedia database system must be considered to provide the query result which is more generalized form. In this paper, I propose a presentation model for presenting query result in multimedia database system and MMSQL based on the developed model for processing multimedia database query. This paper includes the design and implementation of MMSQL query processor. MMSQL query processor provides the presentation of query result which is SMIL (Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language) document. Therefore, MMSQL query result in this paper can be use to variant multimedia applications.

  • In 1995, the department of multimedia-related study was first founded in Technical Institute and has carried out the fundamental education at academic level in trial and error. Following a bubble situation of multimedia-related industries, the education of multimedia-related departments has mass-produced hurriedly prepared multimedia designers and programmers. With the current IMF economic crisis, demand for the multimedia expert manpower has shrunk drastically and competitiveness for getting a job becomes intense. Therefore, it is an urgent problem to specialize the multimedia education of Technical Institute and to differentiate it from the education of Universe. In this paper, I am going to analyze the cause of various practical problems occurring in the multimedia education in Technical Institute and to suggest the solution and education goal for the specialized and differentiated education in multimedia-related department of Technical Institute.

Design of Authoring tool for Synchronizing Multimedia Educational Contents (동기식 멀티미디어 교육콘텐츠 저작도구 설계)

  • In existing educational systems, it is impossible to synchronize multimedia contents and it is required additional client applications. SMIL(Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language) is based on XML which allows to arrange multimedia objects temporally and spatially, and it can represent multimedia effectively on Web browsers. It is possible to serve the high-quality multimedia on Web browsers by applying SMIL to the previous Web-based educational contents without any client applications. In this paper, we propose the method of developing multimedia educational contents applied by SMIL, and design an authoring tool with a function of transforming SMIL documents to XHTML documents. The tool allows common users to use easily without any plug-ins or applications.

  • This study investigates design strategies for improving the educational quality of multimedia contents for early childhood education. It emphasizes both traditional education theory and developmental aspects in its exploration of interactive and educational qualitative multimedia contents for early children. Accordingly, for an effective early childhood education, it is necessary to experience of the playful learning for the conception of ideas and the understanding of the social life. Because this study 1) possibility of multimedia contents for early childhood education, 2) computer application method for early childhood education, 3) examines used in the designing of multimedia contents for early childhood education according to traditional education theory. Multimedia early childhood education system is possible to organize information such as test, image, sound and video based on hyperlink system. I use Microsoft's Ms-office and Asymetrix's ToolBook software that are useful for hyperlink and parameter. Multimedia contents and other pages are used by Dynamic Data Exchange(DDE). Therefore multimedia contents for early childhood education is a useful tool for students of early childhood education department, parents, and children.

The Application of Digital-Diagrams as Infographic Material in Multimedia Design (멀티미디어디자인에서 인포그래픽 도구로서 디지털다이어그램 활용에 관한 연구)

  • Diagrams have been deeply and widely used for supporting effective communication relating to design information and knowledge in most design fields. The results show that their role expands to "developmental design material" increasing the principle and method of design process. It's recent trend that Digital-Diagrams are aggressively used in multimedia design fields such as web contents, interactive movies and DVD Titles in order to support user's information understanding more effectively and to stimulate user's participation in information acquiring process. This study aims to clarify the essence of digital diagram corresponding to infographic material in multimedia design and application of multimedia contents development process . This study purpose leads to argue the substance of Digital-Diagrams as one of infographic types and identity of Digital-Diagrams which is relatively compared to existing Diagrams. Eventually, this study examines the application issues of Digital-Diagrams in multimedia design process. Regarding the identity of Digital-Diagrams, they are functionally utilized depending on hypertext based on language forms and interactivity based on graphical forms as core attributes. Therefore, they semantically enlarge user s information understanding by segmenting hierarchy of information expression and rather support user s acquisition of information control ability. Relating to multimedia design process, Digital-Diagrams are used by information designers and navigation designers as method for ‘modeling for realization based on information acquisition support for information-users. Especially, the study results show that the applications of Digital-Diagrams are performed for information representing methods for information designers and embodiment of useful functional factors of interface for navigation designersgation designers.

  • Today multimedia technologies are playing an increasingly important role in games, movies, and live performances. In this paper, we design a flexible interactive system integrated with gesture recognition, skeleton tracking, internet communication, and content edition using multi-sensors to direct and control the performance on stage. In this system, the performer can control the elements showed on stage through corresponding gestures and body movements during the performance. The system provides an easier way for users to change the content of the performance if they intent to do.
