다문화 가족 자녀의 어머니 출신국가에 대한 관심 및 어머니 국가의 언어 구사능력이 자녀와 어머니의 관계 만족도에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Children's Interests in Mothers' Native Culture and Use of Mother's Native Language on Mother-Child Relationship Satisfaction in Multi-Cultural Families)

  • This paper examined the effects of children's interests and attitudes toward mother's native culture and use of mother's native language on satisfaction of the mother-child relationship in multi-cultural families. Data from the 2012 National Survey of Multi-cultural Families demonstrate that for children aged between 9 and 12 years, their fluency and desire to speak well in the mother's native language as well as father's encouragement for using the mother's native language at home were positively associated with satisfaction of the mother-child relationship. For those aged between 13 and 18 years, mother's nationality (i.e. Southeast or South Asia) was negatively related with mother-child relationship satisfaction. Both mother's and children' communication skills, children's interests in mother's native culture, pride for mother being a foreigner, and desire to speak well in the mother's native language were positively associated with mother-child relationship satisfaction. Therefore, there is a need for foreign wives to be educated in Korean language and culture as well as opportunities for children to learn their mother's native culture and language.

결혼이주여성의 가족상담 필요성 인식 관련 요인의 탐색 (Factors related to the Awareness for the Needs of Family Counseling for Married Immigrant Women)

  • 본 연구는 결혼이주여성의 가족상담 필요성 인식에 미치는 요인들을 파악함으로써, 결혼이주여성과 다문화가족을 위한 가족상담의 지원 방향을 제시하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 보건복지부에서 실시한 2010년도 전국다문화실태조사자료를 사용하여 결혼이주여성 총 58,072명을 대상으로, 사회인구학적 변인, 한국어 능력, 사회적 지지, 가족관계 만족도, 가족상담 경험 유무를 중심으로 가족상담 필요성 인식에 미치는 요인들을 살펴보았다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 결혼이주여성은 가족상담에 대해 보통 수준으로 필요성을 인식하고 있었으며, 한국어 능력 수준도 중간 수준이었다. 사회적 지지원이 한국인, 모국인 모두 2명을 넘지 않았고, 배우자, 자녀, 시부모와의 관계에 대해서는 전반적으로 만족하고 있었다. 둘째, 결혼이주여성의 출신국가에 따른 가족상담 필요성 인식에 대한 차이가 나타났다. 조선족, 중국, 일본 출신의 여성들은 가족상담 필요성 인식이 낮았고, 베트남, 필리핀, 캄보디아 등 동남아 출신 여성들은 가족상담 필요성에 대한 인식이 높게 나타났다. 셋째, 결혼이주여성들은 연령이 어리고, 본인의 학력이 높고, 배우자의 학력이 낮고, 결혼지속년수가 짧고, 자녀가 많고, 배우자 부모와 동거하고 있고, 스스로 배우자를 만나지 않았을 경우, 가족상담에 대한 필요성을 더 높게 인식하고 있었다. 또한, 한국어 능력이 낮고, 사회적 지지원으로 한국인의 수가 적고, 배우자와의 관계에 불만족하고, 자녀와의 관계에 만족하고, 상담에 대한 경험이 있는 경우 가족상담 필요성에 대한 인식이 높아지는 것으로 나타났다.

다문화가정 한국인 남편의 성공적인 결혼적응 (Successful Marriage Adaptation of Korean Husbands Who are Multicultural Families)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 다문화가정 한국인 남편들이 경험한 성공적인 결혼적응에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 탐색하고자 함이다. 이를 위해 7명의 남편들을 대상으로 2개월간의 심층면접을 통해 자료를 수집하고, 이를 근거이론 접근방법으로 분석하였다. 분석결과 남편들은 '준비 안 된 결혼'으로 인해 '결혼생활 후회'까지 경험하지만 '자녀양육', '가사참여' 그리고 '친구 및 직장동료 인정'이 중재적 조건으로 성공적인 결혼적응에 많은 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과를 바탕으로 다문화가정 한국인 남편을 대상으로 하는 정책적 실천적 제언을 하였다. 사회복지 정책적으로는 예비배우자에 대한 정보제공 의무화, 근로기준법과 육아휴직제 준수, 방문지도사제도 확충, 남편을 위한 안내서 제작과 출입국관리사무소나 다문화가족지원센터 그리고 각 주민자치센터 비치배포, 다문화가정에 대한 지속적 사회인식개선 제안과 사회복지 실천적 대안으로는 다양한 교육 프로그램, 국내결혼 부부와 함께 하는 프로그램, 시부모와 가족과 함께 하는 프로그램, 남편들의 가사참여증대를 위한 구체적 프로그램, 남편들을 위한 집단프로그램의 개발과 실천의 필요성을 강조하였다.

Names and the Journey to Define a Multicultural Identity in Jhumpa Lahiri's The Namesake

  • Like many other Asian American writers, Jhumpa Lahiri writes stories that capture the experiences of immigrant families in America. What sets The Namesake apart is that Lahiri cleverly uses the names of her characters to shape their individual lives and futures not just as a first or second generation immigrant, but as people who are more than what that labelling connotes. Although the struggle faced by Ashoke and Ashima to hold on and adapt as first generation immigrants is contrasted with the search for identity among second generation immigrants seen primarily through the experiences of their children Gogol and Sonia, Lahiri uses their struggles as an immigrant family to serve as a starting point for each member of the Ganguli family to find their own identities and understandings of who they are as individuals apart from their race, history or cultural heritage so that they may truly be "without borders."

유아기 자녀를 둔 결혼이주여성의 양육행위 유형별 모성이데올로기 및 양육스트레스 (Motherhood Ideology and Parenting Stress according to Parenting Behavior Patterns of Married Immigrant Women with Young Children)

  • Purpose: This study aims to provide base data for designing education and counseling programs for child-raising by identifying the types, characteristics and predictors of parenting behaviors of married immigrant women. Methods: We used a self-report questionnaire to survey 126 immigrant mothers of young children, who agreed to participate, and who could speak Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese, Filipino, or English, at two children's hospitals and two multicultural support centers. Statistical analysis was conducted using descriptive analysis, K-means clustering, ${\chi}^2$ test, Fisher's exact test, one-way ANOVA, $Sch{\acute{e}}ffe^{\prime}s$ test, and multinominal logistic regression. Results: We identified three clusters of parenting behaviors: 'affectionate acceptance group' (38.9%), 'active engaging group' (26.2%), and 'passive parenting group' (34.9%). Passive parenting and affectionate acceptance groups were distinguished by the conversation time between couples (p=.028, OR=5.52), ideology of motherhood (p=.032, OR=4.33), and parenting stress between parent and child (p=.049, OR=0.22). Passive parenting was distinguished from active engaging group by support from spouses for participating in multicultural support centers or relevant programs (p=.011, OR=2.37), and ideology of motherhood (p=.001, OR=16.65). Ideology of motherhood was also the distinguishing factor between affectionate acceptance and active engaging groups (p=.041, OR=3.85). Conclusion: Since immigrant women's parenting type depends on their ideology of motherhood, parenting stress, and spousal relationships in terms of communication and support to help their child-raising and socio-cultural adaptation, it is necessary to provide them with systematic education and support, as well as interventions across personal, family, and community levels.

청소년의 다문화 수용성에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구: 초등학생과 중학생의 비교 (A Study on Factors Influencing on Adolescents' Multicultural Acceptability : Compared Elementary School Student and Middle School Students)

  • 본 연구는 초등학생과 중학생의 다문화 수용성에 영향을 미치는 요인을 비교하여 차이를 파악하고 그에 따른 구체적인 실천방향을 제언하고자 한다. 본 연구는 5차 한국아동 청소년 패녈 데이터를 통해 초등학교 5학년과 중학교 2학년 학생 4,092명의 자료를 위계적 회귀분석을 통해 요인을 살펴보았다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다: 첫째, 다문화 수용성의 정도는 유의미한 차이가 있었는데, 초등학생의 다문화 수용성이 중학생보다 높았다. 둘째, 초등학생과 중학생 다문화수용성에 영향을 미치는 요인에는 차이가 나타났다. 초등학생과 중학생의 다문화 수용성에 영향을 미치는 공통요인은 어머니의 학력, 삶의 만족도, 또래관계, 교사관계, 공동체 의식으로 나타났다. 그러나 초등학생의 다문화 수용성에 영향을 미치는 요인으로 주관적 학업성적, 지역사회인식, 문화적 활동경험, 해외방문경험이 발견되었으나, 중학생의 경우에는 가족 및 단체여행경험이 다문화 수용성에 영향을 미치는 요인이었다. 이러한 연구결과는 청소년의 다문화 수용성을 증진시키기 위해 아동과 청소년의 발달단계에 따른 적절한 프로그램이 제공될 수 있어야 함을 보여주는 것이다. 즉, 중학생들에게는 공동체의식을 증진시킬 수 있도록 또래관계 증진 등의 그룹프로그램에 다문화이해 내용을 제공함으로써 다문화 수용성을 증진시킬 수 있도록 하는 것이 필요하다. 그리고 초등학생들에게는 지역사회에 대한 인식과 공동체 의식을 증진시킬 수 있는 다양한 활동중심의 비교과 프로그램, 다문화 강사 등을 통한 다문화이해교육 및 지역사회에 대한 관심을 증진시킬 수 있는 교육을 교과와 연계하여 제공하는 것이 필요하다.

A Study on the Mental Health and Parental Efficacy of Mothers of Multicultural Adolescents: Focusing on Latent Profile Analysis

  • 본 연구의 목적은 잠재프로파일분석(Latent Profile Analysis)을 적용하여 다문화청소년 어머니의 정신건강의 잠재유형을 분류하고 예측변인의 영향력을 분석한 후 잠재유형의 차이가 부모효능감에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가를 규명하기 위함이다. 이를 위해 다문화청소년 패널조사(MAPS) 9차년도(2019년) 패널데이터를 활용하였다. 분석결과, 첫째, 다문화청소년 어머니의 정신건강 유형은 '정신건강 중간 위험형'(class3) > '자아존중감 상위형'(class1) > '정신건강 고 위험형'(class4) > '문화적응과 일상생활 스트레스 상위형'(class2) 순으로 분석되었다. 둘째, '자아존중감 상위형'(class1) 집단과 비교해 다문화청소년 어머니의 가정경제 수준이 낮을수록, 다문화청소년 아버지(남편)의 학력이 중학교졸업 이하일수록, 한국어 수준이 낮을수록, 자녀와의 의사소통 정도가 낮을수록 '정신건강 중간 위험형'(class3) 집단에 속할 승산(Odds)은 높아지는 것으로 분석되었다. 셋째, '정신건강 중간 위험형'(class3) 집단과 '정신건강 고 위험형'(class4) 집단과 비교해 '자아존중감 상위형'(class1) 집단이 부모효능감에 유의미한 정(+)적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다.

결혼이주여성의 한국가정생활 문화적응 단계별 특성 -필리핀 결혼이주여성을 중심으로- (Characteristics of Marriage Immigrants' Acculturation Stage and the Source of Support: With an Emphasis on Filipino Marriage Immigrants' Family Life Culture in Korea)

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the characteristics of Filipino marriage immigrants' acculturation stages in regards to their Korean family life culture and to identify the source of the support for each stage, hence to provide information for educational programs that would promote successful acculturation for each stage. The following findings have been obtained through in-depth interviews with 18 female Filipino immigrants to Korea. In a range of obstacles from the Honeymoon Stage to the Confusion stage, the first are the language and the aspects of the food/cooking/ingredients/diet that are different from their own culture. Especially, pregnancy/childbirth is a major change in one's life and the biggest challenge in the acculturation process. As food and cooking are the first change that the immigrants have to face and get accustomed to in the early stage of their Korean life, the food culture is rather easier for the immigrants to get accustomed to than other parts of Korean life. From the Honeymoon Stage to the Harmony Stage, the immigrants make efforts to help their family in the home, while they look to their future in their children during the Autonomy Stage. Regardless of how long they have been in Korea, from the Honeymoon Stage to the Autonomy Stage, the immigrants have a hard time with the patriarchal environment in Korea due to the bilateral nature of kinship in the Philippines. Secondly, the immigrants receive the most support from their husband, family, and the tutors in Korean culture, while their mothers-in-law are the main source of the support for the Korean diet. At the Confusion Stage, the immigrants start visiting the regional multicultural family support centers and get help from the friends they meet there while depending on the TV for cooking tips. From the Harmony Stage, they may seek a job through the community network with their own effort and their children's help. In the Autonomy Stage, they are concerned about their children rather than their own parents, and they find their own identity as a Korean and realize that their effort is important.

베트남 미혼여성의 결혼이주 인식에 대한 탐색적 연구 (Exploratory Research on Marriage Migrant Recognition for Unmarried Vietnamese Women)

  • This study explored general marriage migration for 180 unmarried Vietnamese immigrant women and identified differences in recognition after the choice of marriage. The methods used were frequency analysis, kai verification, and independent t verification were conducted. The findings were as follows. First, unmarried Vietnamese women showed a receptive attitude towards marriage migration with the less-educated group more likely to opt for marriage migration. Economic benefit expectations topped other factors in regards to the image of marriage migrant women and motivation. Dual national identity benefits were also indicated. Second, the perception of external and illusionary images of the spouses of marriage migrant women was low; however, the perception of good occupations and gender equality was high. A vague expectancy of marriage was also found. The perception was high that children from multi-cultural families would be global bilingual talents and adjust to school; however, the perception of social discrimination or prejudice was low. The perception of social discrimination was low concerning the perception of social integration towards marriage migrant women; however, the perception of identities, cultural differences and employment was present. By contrast, the group opting for marriage migration showed a significantly low perception of social discrimination and difficulty in employment. The suggested measures are to regulate and maintain forms of marriage type, reinforce prior training systems for Vietnamese immigrant women (and spouses), enhance multicultural recognition, and supplement multicultural policies.

건강가정지원센터의 공동육아나눔터에 관한 사례연구: 인천소재 공동육아나눔터의 물리적 실내공간환경을 중심으로 (A Case Study on the Co-Child Care Sharing Space of the Healthy Family Support Center: Focusing on the Physical Environment of Interior Space in Incheon)

  • Recently in South Korea, family-friendly living environment in resident communities have emerged as an important issue in addressing problems created by personalized and fragmented family in urban areas. Since their foundation in 2005, Healthy Family Support Centers provided a variety of community activities for both parents and children through the Co-Child Care Sharing Programs. That being said, it is certain that the Healthy Family Support Centers play a central role in making a family-friendly environment. This study surveyed the physical environment of the co-child care sharing space and suggested further improvement. The content of this survey represents the characteristics of co-child care sharing space in Incheon such as operation status, physical space, prepared facilities, and preference for facilities. This study also explored the field of two co-child sharing spaces (Bupyung-gu and Seo-gu) as an example case. The subject of this study was 14 co-child sharing spaces of nine Healthy Family Support Centers in Incheon investigated from July 2014 to October 2014. This study indicated three results: first, the size of the co-child care spaces, their composition and facilities are very different from each center and require standards and guidelines for the co-child sharing space in regards to physical space, composition, and facilities. Second, co-child sharing space should be provided with individual special programs and diversified activities in addition to playing activities. Third, many healthy family support centers operate over two co-child sharing spaces along with an out-located co-child sharing space that require mutual organizing and operational networking between each co-child sharing space to effectively share programs.
