  • This paper proposes a sound multicast packet-switching method which can less affect QoS degradation. The method includes a switch fabric with extra switching paths dedicated for multicast packets. Presented also are both a buffering structure and a scheduling algorithm for the proposed method. Simulation analysis for the method shows that the switching delay of unicast packets is decreased even though arrival rate of multicast packets is increased.

  • The multicast scheme can improve the efficiency of multimedia retrieval service system, assuming that video transmission speed is faster than the playback rate and the store-and-play scheme. To best exploit the multicast benefits under bandwidth heterogeneous environment, we develop a multicast scheduling algorithm called MTS(Maximum Throughput Scheduling) which tries to maximize the amount of information transferred at each scheduling with subgrouping method. The MTS method compromises the multiple unicast method and the multicast method with lowest transmission rate. we compare the performance of MTS with that of MMS(Most Multicasting Scheduling) and EDS(Earliest Deadine Scheduling) via computer simulation. The performance results show that the MTS requires less number of service handlers to service the same number of subscribers.

  • In this paper, new multicast scheduling algorithms are proposed for the WDM single-hop broadcast-and-select networks. The existing multicast scheduling algorithms do not concerned the previous state of receivers, but the proposed method call H-EAR and PGM that partition a multicast group to subgroups using the tunable transmitter, state information of receivers, and pseudo group concept. the performance of proposed algorithms are evaluated through the computer simulation. They show the better Performance comparing with the existing multicast scheduling algorithm.

  • In this paper, new multicast scheduling algorithms are proposed for the WDM single-hop broadcast-and-select networks. The existing multicast scheduling algorithms are focused on the partitioning a multicast group into several subgroups to reduce the delay time of each receiver. These partitioning algorithms are grouping method of the receivers already tuned to the transmitter's wavelength. However, these algorithms ignore the state of receivers, which leads to increase the number of subgroups and the delay time. Therefore, 1 propose two new multicast scheduling algorithms called H_EAR and PGM that partition a multicast group to subgroups using the tunable transmitter, state information of receivers, and pseudo group concept. The performance of proposed algorithms are evaluated through the computer simulation. They show the better performance comparing with the existing multicast scheduling algorithm.

  • This paper treats the interworking of LAN-based networks like TCP over the ATM protocol stack in an ATM multicast session. Multicast connection will cause CIP since multicast group members form a connection tree by some tree methods and share the connected tree. The paper solve the CIP problem through a block-by-block transmission using ABT/IT method. ABT/IT RM cell is modified and block scheduling algorithm considering the traffic types is applied to each ATM switch using the enhanced RM cell. Block scheduling algorithm will avoid the indiscriminate discard of UBR traffic when congestion occurs and it can provide an efficient and fair service. The paper builds a block scheduler system and suggests the block scheduling algorithm for a multicast session in an ATM switch. UBR traffics arriving at the switch trough each VC is classified by the traffic type and stored at class buffer and thereafter indisciminately transmitted. When block scheduling algorithm is applied it will improve the UBR traffic performance such as end-to-end delay cell block loss ration etc. This paper evaluated the performance of block scheduling algorithm through the simulation using the C language and data structure.

  • This letter proposes a weighted scheduling mechanism for Internet protocol television (IPTV) to improve the loss performance of multicast transmission over an Ethernet passive optical network (EPON). We propose a new weight policy from the number of multicast receivers to proportionally allocate the downstream bandwidth of IPTV traffic. The proposed mechanism is used in an optical line terminal to decrease lost packets of favorite IPTV services because the lost multicast packets are proportional to the number of receivers. The total proportion of lost multicast packets is reduced by up to 73% in an EPON.

  • A goal of a BISDN network is to provided integrated transport for a wide range of applications such as teleconferencing, Video On Demand etc. There require multipoint communications in addition to conventional point-to-point connections. Therefore multicast capabilities are very essential in multimedia communications. In this paper, we propose a new multicast cell scheduling method on the Parallel Multicast Packet Switch with Ring network: PMRN which are based on separated HOL. In this method, we place two different HOLs, one for unicast cells and the other for multicast cells. Then using non-FIFO scheduling, we can schedule both unicast cells and multicast cells which are available at the time in the input buffer. The simulation result shows that this method reduces the delay in the input buffer and increases the efficiency of both point-to-point network and ring network and finally enhances the bandwidth of the overall packet switch. • This paper considers a packet-scheduling algorithm for a given combined traffic of unicast and multicast data packets and proposes a hybrid router with several dedicated buses for multicast traffic. Our objective is to develop a scheduling algorithm that minimizes schedule length for the given traffic in the hybrid router. We derive a lower bound and develop an optimal solution algorithm for the hybrid router.

  • Nowadays, many WLAN access points (APs) are deployed in hotspot areas such as shopping malls and stations. As the number of WLAN APs deployed increases, how to manage densely deployed APs in an efficient manner becomes one of the most important issues in WLANs. In this environment, uncoordinated multicast services can lead to frequent collisions due to simultaneous transmissions among APs. In this paper, we propose a multicast scheduling algorithm that can exploit simultaneous transmissions in multiple sectors and avoid redundant transmissions in dense networks. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme can reduce the multicast transmission latency compared to comparison scheduling schemes.
