Overlay Multicast Tree Construction Algorithm for Synchronized Real-time Media Multicast Service over the Internet (동기화된 실시간 미디어 멀티캐스트 서비스에 적합한 오버레이 멀티캐스트 트리 구성 알고리즘)

  • This work presents an effective overlay multicast tree construction algorithm for synchronized real-time media multicast service over the Internet. The proposed algorithm is designed to minimize delay variance among group members to provide the synchronized service as well as average delay of group members in order to support the service in real-time. Basically, of orthogonal genetic algorithm is employed to obtain the near optimal tree with a low computational complexity since the given problem is NP-complete. Finally, experimental results are provided to show the superior performance of the proposed algorithm.

  • To meet the requirements of reliable service for various applications, a Reliable Multicast Transport Protocol should be implemented over IP Multicast where currently best-effort service is provided. Among the current researches, hierarchical tree-based mechanism has been proposed and actively studied. This mechanism is known to provide high scalability as well as reliability, but needs an additional tree configuring mechanism for building an efficient logical tree in transport layer. Bottom-up approach has been used for creating such a tree. This method has benefits from parallel tree construction for receivers, while it has some drawbacks such that it does not guarantee a loop-free tree and brings heavy message overhead during tree creation process. Therefore, this paper proposes a top-down based mechanism for constructing a control tree, which can guarantee loop-freeness by step-wise mannered tree building. From experimental simulations, it shows that the proposed mechanism has less message overhead. It is recommended that the bottom-up and the proposed top-down will be selectively used in real networks, according to the requirements of the concerned multicast applications.

Minimizing Cost and Delay in Shared Multicast Trees

  • Existing tree construction mechanisms are classified into source-based trees and center-based trees. The source-based trees produce a source-rooted tree with a low delay. However, for the applications with multiple senders, the management overheads for routing tables and resource reservations are too high. The center-based trees are easy to implement and manage, but a priori configuration of candidate center nodes is required, and the optimization mature such as tree cost and delay is not considered. In this paper, we propose a new multicast tree building algorithm. The proposal algorithm basically builds a non-center based shared tree. In particular, any center node is not pre-configured. In the purposed algorithm, a multicast node among current tree nodes is suitably assigned to each incoming user: Such a node is selected in a fashion that tree cost and the maximum end-to-end delay on the tree are jointly minimized. The existing and proposed algorithms are compared by experiments. In the simulation results, it is shown that the proposed algorithm approximately provides the cost saving of 30% and the delay saving of 10%, compared to the existing approaches. In conclusion, we see that the cost and delay aspects for multicast trees can be improved at the cost of additional computations.

  • Recently, streaming service accounts for large part of internet traffic and it is becoming the most popular service. Because of P2P's scalability, P2P-based streaming system is proposed. There are frequent leave and join of a node. To overcome the group dynamics, Multiple Multicast Trees Methods were suggested. However, since they did not consider discrepancy in peers' capacity, it may cause the trees to be long and unstable. So we suggest Resilient Capacity-Aware Multicast Tree construction scheme (R-CAT) that promotes superior peer to upper position in the tree and construct more stable and short multicast trees. By simulation we can show that R-CAT cost more overhead packets for tree joining process, but it reduce the end-to-end delay of the resulting tree and the number of packets lost during the node joining and leaving processes much more than SplitStream.

  • In this paper, we propose a solution, called M_DQDMR, for generating delay-constrained boundwidth-appropriated multicast routing trees to reduce the delay and conserved boundwidth resources of nodes in mobile computing environment. At the current router installation, we according the routing table and the information of link which neighboring rude to guarantee QoS(Quality of Service). When we construct multicast tree, M_DQDMR algorithm dynamically adjusts its appropriate tree construction policy based on how far the destination node from the delay bound and boundwidth our QoS requirement. Through simulations and comparing to another multicast algorithm, we reach a conclusion is that M_DQDMR can simply and dynamically adjusts the construction of multicast tree in hight-speed and conserve boundwidth resources.

  • In this paper, a multicast mechanism is proposed for intermittently disconnected networks where the nodes move forward in formation or within a limited area. The proposed scheme extends the well-known tree-based multicast routing mechanism called MAODV by modifying the tree construction and data delivery scheme. Especially, an algorithm is introduced which determines the flooding hop count k estimating the degree of the movement of children in the tree. The performance evaluation was done by the simulation and the proposed scheme was compared with MAODV and two multicast routing schemes for DTN (Disruption Tolerant Network) including the Epidemic routing and ST-multicast. The evaluation results show that our scheme improves the original MAODV from the aspect of tree reconstruction events and message delivery ratio. Compared with the Epidemic routing scheme, our scheme achieves 85% message delivery ratio with less than 50% message delivery overhead.

  • In order to support overlay multicast with scalability and reliability, in this paper, we introduced a new multicast tree construction method and a regional multicast. The architecture we introduce efficiently transmits streaming data to the users from multicast source in an environment in which non-multicast network and multicast network. The new multicast tree construction method enables the connection with a remote relay which is an optimum condition in case there is no relay in subnet. Besides, by defining a new service type to traffic class of IPv6 header, a selective adoption or FEC and a distinctive transmission became possible. In order to verify the effect of the solution we suggested, we embodied an environment which is similar to the actual service environment by a simulator and tested it. The result of the test shows that the proposed method is more efficient than the traditional unicast approach method and the existing overlay multicast.

Efficient Multicast Tree Algorithm for Acceptable Delay and Minimum Delay Variation (지연시간 한계의 만족과 효율적인 최소 지연변이 멀티캐스트 트리 생성 알고리즘)

  • With the proliferation of multimedia group applications, the construction of multicast trees satisfying QoS requirements is becoming a problem of prime importance. In this paper, we study the delay- and delay variation-bounded multicast tree (DVBMT) problem which is NP-complete. The problem is to construct a spanning tree for destination node, which has the minimized multicast delay variation, and the delay on the path from the source to each destination is bounded. A solution to this problem is required to provide decent real-time communication services such as on-line games, shopping, and teleconferencing. Performance comparison shows that the proposed scheme outperforms DDVCA which is known to be effective so far in any network topology. The enhancement is up to about $3.6{\%}{\~}11.1{\%}$ in terms of normalized surcharge for DUVCA. The time complexity of our algorithm is $O(mn^2)$.

One-Time Overlay Multicast Techniques Considering Receipt Quality for m-to-n Comunication over Large Internet (다자간의 통신환경에서 다양한 수신품질을 고려한 One-Time 오버레이 멀티캐스트 기법에 관한 연구)

  • IP Multicast has not been deployed because of hardware problems. So a new scheme that is called Overlay Multicast for group communication has been emerged. It supports IP Multicast functions, which is located on application level. For developing it, we have been focused on efficient overlay tree construction among group members with low stretch and stress. However, we should consider a variety of transmission or receipt condition since a real internet environment has users with various transmission/receipt rates. Thus, we make one-time source specific tree depending on required bandwidth informationof group members when a member requests data transmission. Our mechanism provides satisfied data quality limited maximum transmission rate of the source to each group members. Furthermore, we manage a large group enough as distributing control information to cores that are designated membersfor maintaining host member information. Lastly, we prove that our tree guarantees data quality to each group members, and show low tree consruction time is required. In addition, for evaluating group scalability, we analyze control information increasing rate via group size, and validate its scalability.

Sink-Initiated Geographic Multicasting Protocol for Mobile Sinks in Wireless Sensor Networks (무선 센서 망에서 이동 싱크를 위한 위치기반 멀티캐스팅 프로토콜)

  • In this paper, we propose a SInk-initiated geographic Multicast (SIM) protocol to reduce frequent location updates from mobile sinks to a source and to achieve fast multicast tree construction and data delivery. The proposed protocol allows sinks to construct their own data delivery paths to a source node and a multicast tree to be atomically constructed by merging the paths. Then, the source forwards data to the destinations down the multicast tree. This paper also propose a round-based virtual infrastructure with a radial shape for increasing the merging probability of data delivery paths and reducing reconstruction ratio of the multicast tree due to mobility of sinks. Simulation results show that the proposed protocol is superior to previous SOurce-initiated geographic Multicast (SOM) protocols in term of average data delivery delay and average energy consumption.
