The energy absorption efficiency of a wave power generation system is calculated as the ratio of the wave power to the power of the system. Because absorption efficiency depends on the dynamic behavior of the wave power generation system, a dynamic analysis of the wave power generation system is required to estimate the energy absorption efficiency of the system. In this study, a dynamic analysis of the wave power generation system under wave loads is performed to estimate the energy absorption efficiency. RecurDyn is employed to carry out the dynamic analysis of the system, and the Morison equation is used for the wave load model. According to the results, the lower the wave height and the shorter the period, the higher is the absorption efficiency of the system.
In the area of wheel on rail vehicle, hunting stability which is generated by lateral motion is one of important characteristics for running safety. It might cause not only oscillation of vehicle but also derailment in an unstable area of the high speed. A Maglev vehicle is usually controlled the voltage to maintain the air gap between electromagnet and track. However, in Maglev system, an occurrence possibility of hunting motion could be high, because Maglev vehicle is not controlled directly lateral force between electromagnet and track in the curved guideway. In this paper, running safety is evaluated when Maglev vehicle run on guideway at high speed according to installment of damper between maglev vehicles and bogies, and to analyze the effect of it. Also, the parametric study is carried out for selecting effective lateral damper properties through the simulation. To accurately predict the running safety, 3d multibody dynamics models which are included air spring, guideway conditions and irregularities profile are used. With the results acquired, suggestions were made whether to adopt the damper and how to optimize the damping characteristics.

It is important to predict the collision behavior of a train consist to improve its crashworthiness. To analyze crash behavior of train, four kinds of methods are mainly used so far. The first is method using multibody dynamics to predict the gross motion of the train set. The second uses 3D FE model to apply the section analysis method in order. The third is used to deduce design specification and evaluate the crashworhiness of a train by using 1D model. The last is to constitute 2D model to check overriding and coupling devices. The train evaluation procedures are so complex that it is difficult to understand or deal with. In this study, VTM for railway train was introduced to simplify the procedures. VTM involves 3D models, 1D models and dynamic components such as suspension and coupling. The method using hybrid concept model makes it possible to do all the things that are mentioned above. To analyze crash behavior tendency of VTM, the model was simulated and the simulation results were discussed.

The steering wheel of a vehicle has a typical characteristic of automatically returning to its neutral state when the driver releases it. Steering returnability originated from the tire forces and kingpin moments. It is proportional to the reaction torque that is generated through the rack and column, which are dependent on suspension and steering geometry. It is also important to accurately predict and design it because steering returnability is related to steering performance. In this study, a detailed multibody dynamics model of a vehicle was designed by using ADAMS/Car and simulated for steering returnability. In addition, a tolerance analysis of the chassis system in terms of part dimension and properties has been performed in order to minimize the design parameters. The sensitivity of the selected design parameters was then analyzed via Design of Experiments(DOE). As a result, we were able to obtain the main parameters through a contribution analysis. It can be used to predict steering returnability and improve its performance, which is represented by the angle of restoration and laterality.
This study aimed to investigate the random vibration characteristic of train-slab track-bridge interaction system subjected to both track irregularities and earthquakes by use of pseudo-excitation method (PEM). Each vehicle subsystem was modeled by multibody dynamics. A three-dimensional rail-slab- girder-pier finite element model was created to simulate slab track and bridge subsystem. The equations of motion for the entire system were established based on the constraint condition of no jump between wheel and rail. The random load vectors of equations of motion were formulated by transforming track irregularities and seismic accelerations into a series of deterministic pseudo-excitations according to their respective power spectral density (PSD) functions by means of PEM. The time-dependent PSDs of random vibration responses of the system were obtained by step-by-step integration method, and the corresponding extreme values were estimated based on the first-passage failure criterion. As a case study, an ICE3 high-speed train passing a fifteen-span simply supported girder bridge simultaneously excited by track irregularities and earthquakes is presented. The evaluated extreme values and the PSD characteristic of the random vibration responses of bridge and train are analyzed, and the influences of train speed and track irregularities (without earthquakes) on the random vibration characteristic of bridge and train are discussed.

Cloud computing is a computing paradigm in which users can utilize computing resources in a pay-as-you-go manner. In a cloud system, resources can be dynamically scaled up and down to the user's on-demand so that the total cost of ownership can be reduced. The Modeling and Simulation (M&S) technology is a renowned simulation-based method to obtain engineering analysis and results through CAE software without actual experimental action. In general, M&S technology is utilized in Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Multibody dynamics (MBD), and optimization fields. The work procedure through M&S is divided into pre-processing, analysis, and post-processing steps. The pre/post-processing are GPU-intensive job that consists of 3D modeling jobs via CAE software, whereas analysis is CPU or GPU intensive. Because a general-purpose desktop needs plenty of time to analyze complicated 3D models, CAE software requires a high-end CPU and GPU-based workstation that can work fluently. In other words, for executing M&S, it is absolutely required to utilize high-performance computing resources. To mitigate the cost issue from equipping such tremendous computing resources, we propose HEMOS-Cloud service, an integrated cloud and cluster computing environment. The HEMOS-Cloud service provides CAE software and computing resources to users who want to experience M&S in business sectors or academics. In this paper, the economic ripple effect of HEMOS-Cloud service was analyzed by using industry-related analysis. The estimated results of using the experts-guided coefficients are the production inducement effect of KRW 7.4 billion, the value-added effect of KRW 4.1 billion, and the employment-inducing effect of 50 persons per KRW 1 billion.

The number and locations of force generators and their force directions of Active Vibration Control System(AVCS) are important to maximize the airframe vibration reduction performance of helicopters. The present AVCS simulation using an exhaustive test method attempts to determine the best number and locations of force generators and their force directions for maximization of the airframe vibration reduction performance of UH-60A helicopter at 158 knots. The 4P hub vibratory loads of the UH-60A helicopter are calculated using DYMORE II, a nonlinear multibody dynamics analysis code, and MSC.NASTRAN is used to predict the vibration responses of the UH-60A airframe. The AVCS framework with an exhaustive test method is constructed using MATLAB Simulink. As a result, when applying AVCS with the optimal combination of the force generators, the 4P airframe vibration responses of UH-60A helicopter are reduced by from 19.35% to 98.07% compared to the baseline results without AVCS.

A floating crane is a crane-mounted ship and is used to assemble or to transport heavy blocks in shipyards. In this paper, the static and dynamic response of a floating crane and a heavy block that are connected using elastic booms and wire ropes are described. The static and dynamic equations of surge, pitch, and heave for the system are derived on the basis of flexible multibody system dynamics. The equations of motion are fully coupled and highly nonlinear since they involve nonlinear mass matrices, elastic stiffness matrices, quadratic velocity vectors, and generalized external forces. A floating frame of reference and nodal coordinates are employed to model the boom as a flexible body. The nonlinear hydrostatic force, linear hydrodynamic force, wire-rope force, and mooring force are considered as the external forces. For numerical analysis, the Hilber-Hughes-Taylor method for implicit integration is used. The dynamic responses of the cargo are analyzed with respect to the results obtained by static and numerical analyses.

Higher circuit breaker safety standards can be obtained by increasing the sustaining time of the latching section. This time increase is achieved through velocity reduction after contacting when the closing mechanism operates. The potential for the re-closing phenomenon to occur is also reduced by obtaining time to return open latch. In this study, the sustaining time for the latching section was increased through cam profile optimization based on the displacement response of the moving parts. In addition, the existing performance velocity was also satisfied. A multibody dynamics model of the circuit breaker was developed using ADAMS. To validate the model, simulation results were compared to experiment results. Then, cam profile optimization was carried out using an optimal design program PIAnO. Design variables selected included the radial direction of the cam. Design sensitivity analysis was carried out by design section as well. As a result of optimization, the sustaining time for the latching section was increased.
Generally, in the train area, switch tracks have required high reliability because this system is directly associated with derailment. Especially, switch tracks of Maglev vehicles must be moved in terms of the whole geometric characteristics, in which the bogies are encased in the switch track. For this reason, switch track was constructed with steel lighter than concrete girders. But, the steel switch track was weak because of structural vibration as well as structural deformation. Therefore, it is important to predict the levitation stability when a vehicle passes over flexible switch track. The aims of this paper are to develop a coupled dynamic model to describe the relationship between a Maglev vehicle and switch track and to predict the levitation stability. In order to develop the coupled dynamic model, a three dimensional vehicle model was developed based on multibody dynamics; a switch model was made using the modal superposition method. And, the developed model was verified using comparison measured data.
