  • Recently, the rapid evolution of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has enabled its key role in industries and predictive sciences. From diverse research disciplines, however, are there strong needs for integrated analytical tools for multi-phenomena beyond simple flow simulation. Based on the concurrent simulation of multi-dynamics, multi-phenomena beyond simple flow simulation. Based on the concurrent simulation of multi-dynamics, multi-physics and multi-scale phenomena, the multi-phenomena CFD technology enables us to perform the flow simulation for integrated and complex systems. From the multi-phenomena CFD analysis, the high-precision analytical and predictive capacity can enhance the fast development of industrial technologies. It is also expected to further enhance the applicability of the simulation technique to medical and bio technology, new and renewable energy, nanotechnology, and scientific computing, among others.

  • Significant advances in computational performance have occurred over the past two decades, achieved not only by the introduction of more powerful processors but the incorporation of parallelism in computer hardware at all levels. Simultaneous with these hardware and associated system software advances have been advances in modeling physical phenomena and the numerical algorithms to allow their usage in simulation. This paper presents a review of the advances in computer performance, discusses the modeling and simulation capabilities required to address the multi-physics and multi-scale phenomena applicable to a nuclear reactor core simulator, and present examples of relevant physics simulation codes' performances on high performance computers.

혈액 펌프의 기계적 성능과 생체 역학적 성능에 대한 연구 (INVESTIGATION ON MECHANICAL AND BIO-MECHANICAL PERFORMANCE OF A CENTRIFUGAL BLOOD PUMP)

  • Blood pump analysis process includes both mechanical and bio-mechanical aspects. Since a blood pump is a mechanical device, it has to be mechanically efficient. On the other hand, blood pumps function is sensitively related to the blood recirculation; hence, bio-factors such as hemolysis and thrombosis become important. This paper numerically investigates the mechanical and bio-mechanical performances of the Rotaflow in the extracorporeal membrane oxygenation(ECMO), Ventricular Assist Device(VAD), and full-load conditions. The operational conditions are defined as(400[mmHg], 5[L/min.]), (100[mmHg], 3[L/min.]), and (600[mmHg], 10[L/min.]) for ECMO, VAD, and full-load conditions, respectively. The results are presented and analyzed from the mechanical aspect via performance curves, and from bio-mechanical aspect via focusing on hemolytic characteristics. Regions of top and bottom cavities show recirculation in both ECMO and VAD condtions. In addition, Eulerian-based calculation of modified index of hemolysis(MIH) has been investigated. The results demonstrate that the VAD condition has the least risk of hemolysis among the others, while the full-load condition has the highest risk.

유화단일액적의 연소에 관한 소음 특성 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Sound Level Intensity Characteristics for Combustion of Single Droplet Emulsified Fuels)

  • The objectives of this study was to examine experimentally the microexplosion phenomena of single droplet W/O(water-in-oil) type emulsified fuel. Also, measured the combustion characteristics of single droplet emulsified fuel for microexplosion phenomena in atmospheric pressure condition. The larger quantity of adding water makes microexplosion phenomenon with higher intensity of sound level, because larger water droplet has better coalescence for emulsified fuel. The small quantity of adding water makes puffing with lower sound level intensity. In latter period of extinction, large size droplet of the emulsified fuel breaks down rapidly to small size droplet, and microexplosion phenomenon occurs with multi step combustion.

  • 다공성 물질 내부의 연소 현상은 저발열량 연료의 연소 및 연소열의 재생을 위한 수단으로 다양한 형태로 산업현장에 응용되고 있다. 하지만 다공성 물질 내부에서의 연소 현상은 직접적인 관찰이 힘들다는 점과 다공성 물질의 복잡한 내부 구조로 인해 매우 제한적인 연구가 진행되어 왔다. 본 연구에서는 복잡한 다공성 물질의 구조 내부에서의 화염의 안정화 특성에 관한 이해를 위해 내부 관찰이 가능하도록 다수의 석영판으로 구성된 다중채널 형태의 모형 연소기를 제안하고 이를 이용한 간단한 실험 결과를 제시한다. 그리고 이러한 다중채널내부 화염의 안정화에 관한 간단한 기초해석 모델을 제안한다. 다수의 채널 내부에 형성된 화염은 채널간의 열전달에 의해 화염의 공간 분포가 변화하고 그 결과로 연소기 내부의 가연한계에 변화가 발생한다. 채널의 재료 특성 및 당량비에 따른 가연한계의 변화를 제시하였으며, 이 결과는 다공성 연소기 내부화염의 이해에 도움될 것이다.

THERMAL-HYDRAULIC TESTS AND ANALYSES FOR THE APR1400'S DEVELOPMENT AND LICENSING

  • The program on thermal-hydraulic evaluation by testing and analysis (THETA) for the development and licensing of the new design features in the APR1400 (Advanced Power Reactor-1400) is briefly introduced with a presentation on the research motivation and typical results of the separate effect tests and analyses of the major design features. The first part deals with multi-dimensional phenomena related to the safety analysis of the APR1400. One research area is related to the multidimensional behavior of the safety injection (SI) water in a reactor pressure vessel downcomer that uses a direct vessel injection type of SI system. The other area is associated with the condensation of steam jets and the resultant thermal mixing in a water pool; these phenomena are relevant to the depressurization of a reactor coolant system (RCS). The second part describes our efforts to develop new components for safety enhancements, such as a fluidic device as a passive SI flow controller and a sparger to depressurize the RCS. This work contributes to an understanding of the new thermal-hydraulic phenomena that are relevant to advanced reactor system designs; it also improves the prediction capabilities of analysis tools for multi-dimensional flow behavior, especially in complicated geometries.

다중물리 전산모사를 이용한 물성 최적화 이론 및 시뮬레이션 (Material Design Using Multi-physics Simulation: Theory and Methodology)

  • New material design has obtained tremendous attention in material science community as the performance of new materials, especially in nano length scale, could be greatly improved to applied in modern industry. In certain conditions limiting experimental synthesis of these new materials, new approach by computer simulation has been proposed to be applied, being able to save time and cost. Recent development of computer systems with high speed, large memory, and parallel algorithms enables to analyze individual atoms using first principle calculation to predict quantum phenomena. Beyond the quantum level calculations, mesoscopic scale and continuum limit can be addressed either individually or together as a multi-scale approach. In this article, we introduced current endeavors on material design using analytical theory and computer simulations in multi-length scales and on multi-physical properties. Some of the physical phenomena was shown to be interconnected via a cross-link rule called 'cross-property relation'. It is suggested that the computer simulation approach by multi-physics analysis can be efficiently applied to design new materials for multi-functional characteristics.

다중 임계치 함수의 TI 웨이브렛 잡음제거 기법 (A Study on Translation-Invariant Wavelet De-Noising with Multi-Thresholding Function)

  • 수중 방사소음 측정시 낮은 신호대 잡음비를 가지는 신호에 대해 유용한 신호를 얻기 위해서는 잡음제거가 이루어져야 한다. 본 논문은 잡음제거를 수행하기 위하여 Donoho 등에 의해 제안된 Translation-Invariant (TI) 웨이브렛 기반으로 다중 임계치 함수를 적용한 잡음제거 기법을 제안한다. 기존의 웨이브렛 잡음제거 기법은 특이점 부근에서 Pseudo-Gibbs 현상이 발생하는 문제점이 있다 TI 웨이브렛은 신호의 특성 위치를 변화시켜 Pseudo-Gibbs 현상을 제거한다. 그리고 배경잡음 및 외부잡음을 제거하기 위해 각 노드별 변형된 소프트 임계치를 적용한 다중 임계치 함수를 제안한다. 제안 기법의 타당성을 검토하기 위해 모의 시뮬레이션과 해상실험을 수행한 결과 신호대 잡음비가 23dB 및 18dB 이상 개선됨을 확인하였다.

  • A tension control strategy for a multi-span web transport system is proposed. This strategy is developed by using the tension transfer phenomena in multi-span systems. The performance of this control strategy is compared with that of an existing control strategy through a computer simulation. A real-time software is designed based on the proposed tension control stration of master speed drive in tension control is demonstrated.

  • Applying the globalization theory to the fashion phenomena which regarded the phenomena of the contemporary culture as globalization, this study had an object of looking into the globalization tendency of the fashion phenomena shown Paris, London, Milno, New York, Tokyo, and Seoul collections from 1995 to 1999. The results of this study were as follows; 1. It was the blend of romanticism that was the most common trend shown at the six world collections. 2. The works appeared at the six world collections showed the regional peculiarity under the historical background or the sociocultural influence each city had. 3. Another character appeared at the six city collections was the appearance of multi-ethnic style mixed various regional motive at a work. After all, the world fashion phenomena in the second half of 1990's could be condensed into globalization appeared homogenization, regionalization and hybridization at the same time.
