The size and topology of geometrically nonlinear dome structures are optimized thereby minimizing both its entire weight & joint (node) displacements and maximizing load-carrying capacity. Design constraints are implemented from provisions of American Petroleum Institute specification (API RP2A-LRFD). In accordance with the proposed design constraints, the member responses computed by use of arc-length technique as a nonlinear structural analysis method are checked at each load increment. Thus, a penalization process utilized for inclusion of unfeasible designations to genetic search is correspondingly neglected. In order to solve this complex design optimization problem with multiple objective functions, Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (NSGA II) approach is employed as a multi-objective optimization tool. Furthermore, the flexibility of proposed optimization is enhanced thereby integrating an automatic dome generating tool. Thus, it is possible to generate three distinct sphere-shaped dome configurations with varying topologies. It is demonstrated that the inclusion of brace (diagonal) members into the geometrical configuration of dome structure provides a weight-saving dome designation with higher load-carrying capacity. The proposed optimization approach is recommended for the design optimization of geometrically nonlinear dome structures.

When the topology optimization is applied to the design of compliant mechanism, unexpected displacements of input and output port are generated since the displacement control is not included in the formulation. To devise a more precise mechanism, displacement constraint is formulated using the mutual potential energy concept and added to multi-objective function defined with flexibility and stiffness of a structure. The optimization problem is resolved by using Finite Element Method(FEM) and Sequential Linear Programming(SLP). Design examples of compliant mechanism with displacement constraint are presented to validate the proposed design method.

Network topology design is a multiobjective problem with various design components. The components such as cost, message delay and reliability are important to gain the best performance. Recently, Genetic Algorithms(GAs) have been widely used as an optimization method for real-world problems such as combinatorial optimization, network topology design, and so on. This paper proposed a method of Multi-objective GA for Design of the network topology which is to minimize connection cost and message delay time. A common difficulty in multiobjective optimization is the existence of an objective conflict. We used the prufer number and cluster string for encoding, parato elimination method and niche-formation method for the fitness sharing method, and reformation elitism for the prevention of pre-convergence. From the simulation, the proposed method shows that the better candidates of network architecture can be found.

In the development of logistics system, the breakthrough of important technologies such as technology platform for logistics information management and control is the key content of the study. Based on Javascript and JQuery, the logistics system realizes real-time monitoring, collection of historical status data, statistical analysis and display, intelligent recommendation and other functions. In order to strengthen the cooperation of warehouse storage, enhance the utilization rate of resources, and achieve the purpose of real-time and visual supervision of transportation equipment and cargo tracking, this paper studies the VNF dynamic deployment and SFC routing problem in the network load change scenario based on the logistics system. The BIP model is used to model the VNF dynamic deployment and routing problem. The optimization objective is to minimize the total cost overhead generated by each SFCR. Furthermore, the application of the SFC mapping algorithm in the routing topology solving problem is proposed. Based on the concept of relative cost and the idea of topology transformation, the SFC-map algorithm can efficiently complete the dynamic deployment of VNF and the routing calculation of SFC by using multi-layer graph. In the simulation platform based on the logistics system, the proposed algorithm is compared with VNF-DRA algorithm and Provision Traffic algorithm in the network receiving rate, throughput, path end-to-end delay, deployment number, running time and utilization rate. According to the test results, it is verified that the test results of the optimization algorithm in this paper are obviously improved compared with the comparison method, and it has higher practical application and promotion value.

The structural layout of mechanical and civil structures is commonly obtained using conventional methods. For example, the shape of structures such as electric transmission towers and offshore substructures can be generated systematically. However, with rapid advancements in computer graphic technology, advanced structural analyses and optimum design technologies have been implemented. In this study, the structural shape of a jacket substructure for an offshore wind turbine is investigated using a topology optimization technique. The structure is subjected to multiple loads that are intended to simulate the loading conditions during actual operation. The optimization objective function is defined as one that ensures compliance of the structure under the given boundary conditions. Optimization is carried out with constraints on the natural frequency in addition to the volume constraint. The result of a first step model provides quick insights into the optimum layout for the second step structure. Subsequently, a 3D model in the form of the frustum of a quadrilateral pyramid is developed through topology optimization.

Optimal topology design is to search the optimal configuration of a structure which can be used as a shape at the conceptual design stage. Our objective is to maximize the stiffness of the structures and ribs under a material usage constraintl. The density of each finite element is the design variable and its relationship with Young's modulus is expressed by quadratic form. The configuration is represented by the entire density distribution, the structural analysis is performed by finite element method and the optimiza- tion is performed by Feasible Direction Method. Feasible Direction Method can handle various problems simultaneously, that is, mult-objectives and multi-constraints. Total computation time can be reduced by the quadratic relationship between the density and the material property and fewer design variables than Homogenization Method. Toplogy optimization technique developed in this research is applied to design the shapes of the ribs.

Damper springs in a drive-line absorb the impulsive torque generated when a lock-up clutch is connected directly, instead of via a fluid coupling. Design optimization and finite element analysis were performed to improve the shock- and vibration-absorption capacity of the lock-up clutch. For this purpose, a multi-body dynamics model was developed by including the main parts of a vehicle, such as an engine with a clutch, a transmission, drive shafts and wheels, and a whole mass of a vehicle. The spring constants were selected so that resonance of a system could be avoided. Damper springs were optimized on the basis of the spring constants, impulsive torques, compressed angles, spring counts, fatigue constraints, etc. Topology optimization was performed for three plates with the damper springs. The compliance was set up as an objective function, and volume fraction was fixed below 0.3. A new shape for the plates was proposed on the basis of the topology result.
This paper presents an improved estimation procedure for the contribution to no-load flux linkage created by the permanent magnet (PM) in interior permanent magnet synchronous machines. In the proposed method, the saturation effect in stator and rotor cores are taken into account by utilizing the frozen permeability method (FPM). This improved procedure can evaluate the contribution for each local element in the PM to the no-load flux linkage. According to the analysis results, an effective PM topology optimal design can be carried out to achieve high utilization ratio of PM in the machine. In order to determine the threshold of the low contribution of PM for removing, one multi-objective optimization model is proposed. Based on the optimal threshold, the final optimal topology design of PM can be achieved.

Topology optimization is applied for the lightweight design of three main parts of a vertical articulated robot: a base frame, a lower and a upper frame. Design domains for optimization are set as large solid regions that completely embrace the original parts, which are discretized by using three-dimensional solid elements. Design variables are parameterized one-to-one to the material properties of each element by using the SIMP method. The objective of optimization is set as the multi-objective form combining the natural frequencies and mean compliances of a structure for which load steps of interest are selected from the multibody dynamics analysis of a robot. The obtained results of topology optimization are post-processed to designs favorable to manufacturability for casting process. The final optimized results are 11.0% (base frame), 12.0% (lower frame) and 10.0% (upper frame) lighter with similar or even higher static and dynamic stiffnesses than the original models.
A study on the multi-objective optimization of Interior Permanent-Magnet Synchronous Motors (IPMSMs) with 2, 3, 4 and 5 flux barriers per magnetic pole, based on Genetic Algorithm (GA) is presented by considering the aspect of irreversible demagnetization. Applying the 2004 Toyota Prius single-layer IPMSM as the reference machine, the asymmetrical two-, three-, four- and five-layer rotor models with the same amount of Permanent-Magnets (PMs) is presented to improve the torque characteristics, i.e., reducing the torque pulsation and increasing the average torque. A reduction of the torque pulsations is achieved by adopting different and asymmetrical flux barrier geometries in each magnetic pole of the rotor topology. The demagnetization performance in the PMs is considered as well as the motor performance; and analyzed by using finite element method (FEM) for verification of the optimal solutions.
