  • This paper proposes transformerless power conversion system consisting of a single-phase diode rectifier and a shunt hybrid filter for the electric-railway system. The hybrid filter consists of a single tuned LC filter per a phase and a low-rated NPC type multi-level inverter. Compared with conventional active filters. Transformers are not used. Also, LC filter works as not only a harmonic filter tuned at the 5th harmonic frequency but also a switching-ripple filter. The rating of the active filter can be decreased by using a NPC type multi-level inverter. The simulation results confirm the validity of the system

  • This paper deals with a design method and capacity loss of an efficient multi-level modulation scheme for dimmable visible light communications (VLC) systems that use light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with efficiency droop. To this end, the impact of such an impairment on dimmable VLC is addressed with respect to multi-level modulations based on pulse-amplitude modulation (PAM) via data-rate optimization formulation.

  • A novel space vector modulation strategy in the non-orthogonal three-dimensional coordinate system for multi-level three-phase four-wire inverters is proposed in this paper. This new non-orthogonal three-dimensional space vector modulation converts original trigonometric functions in the orthogonal three-dimensional space coordinate into simple algebraic operations, which greatly reduces the algorithm complexity of three-dimensional space vector modulation and preserves the independent control of the zero-sequence component. Experimental results have verified the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed three-dimensional space vector modulation in the new non-orthogonal three-dimensional coordinate system.

  • In a real-life supply chain environment, demand forecasting is usually represented by probabilistic distributions due to the uncertainty inherent in customer demands. However, the customer demand used for an actual supply chain planning is a single deterministic value for each of periods. In this paper we study the choice of single demand value among of the given customer demand distribution for a period to be used in the supply chain planning. This paper considers distributed multi-echelon supply chain and the objective function of this paper is to minimize the total costs, that is the sum of holding and backorder costs over the distribution network under the service level constraint, by using demand selection scheme. Some useful findings are derived from various simulation-based experiments.

  • This paper deals with the path-following control for marine surface vehicles with underactuated characteristics. In consideration of practical limitations of actuators, an improved DVS(dynamic virtual ship) guidance algorithm is proposed with the multi-level DVS optionally selected to be tracked. To address the output-feedback control issue, an adaptive FLS(fuzzy logical systems) is devised to online approximate the kinematic states. Based on that observing framework, the path-following control law is thereafter derived. Simulations testify effectiveness of the proposed scheme

  • Singh's multi-level method is extended to the optimal tracking control of a large interconnected dynamical system which has coupled states and coupled inputs. The steady-state tracking error and a convergence condition for the extended multi-level method are derived analytically and the results show that the steady-state tracking error and a convergence rate have to be compromised. Also, a new multi-level method which is advantageous over the Singh's method in steady-state tracking error and computational burden is proposed by introducing nominal inputs into the performance index. The resulting feedback gain matrix and the compensation vector are optimal for all initial conditions so that eventual on-line computation is minimal.

  • This paper addresses FMS(Flexible Manufacturing System) loading problems with machine, tool and process flexibilities. When designing FMS planning, it is important to take account of these flexibilities for an efficient utilization of the resources. However, almost all the existing researches do not appropriately consider various flexibilities due to the problem complexity. This paper presents a new evolutionary algorithm to solve the FMS loading problems with machine, tool and process flexibilities. The algorithm is named a multi-level symbiotic evolutionary algorithm. The proposed algorithm is compared with the existing ones in terms of solution quality and convergence speed. The experimental results confirm the effectiveness of our approach.

  • As current algorithms unable to perform effective fusion processing of unknown complex radar signals lacking database, and the result is unstable, this paper presents a multi-level fusion processing algorithm for complex radar signals based on evidence theory as a solution to this problem. Specifically, the real-time database is initially established, accompanied by similarity model based on parameter type, and then similarity matrix is calculated. D-S evidence theory is subsequently applied to exercise fusion processing on the similarity of parameters concerning each signal and the trust value concerning target framework of each signal in order. The signals are ultimately combined and perfected. The results of simulation experiment reveal that the proposed algorithm can exert favorable effect on the fusion of unknown complex radar signals, with higher efficiency and less time, maintaining stable processing even of considerable samples.

  • This thesis proposed H-Bridge Multi-Level Inverter for Fluidized Bed Combustion Boiler Secondary Air Fan in 200MW thermal power plant. The adjustable speed drive systems improve the efficiency in lightly load condition and extend the life span of motor by limiting the over current at starting. H-Bridge Multi-level Inverter is composed of the several series low voltage power cell inverters, which have the independent isolated do link, in each phase. KEPRI(Korea Electric Power Research Institute) has successfully completed to develop, install, and commission H-Bridge Multi-level Inverter(6.6kV, 1MVA). This thesis gives a full detail about H-Bridge Multi-level Inverter, proposed boiler DCS(Distributed Control System) logic, and commissioning test result.

  • Recently, DGPS or RTK-GPS techniques enable us to use satellite based positioning systems with high accuracy. But in urban area, navigation systems suffer from problems such as signal blockage by high-rise buildings, multi-path problems, and so on. So we have to know numbers of visible satellites and quality of signals received at the ground level in urban area as accurate as possible. In this paper, we developed a simulation system called LoQAS [Location service Quality Assessment System, 2002, the University of Tokyo] which can simulate numbers of visible satellites and DOP values using accurate satellite orbital data and 3-D digital map. In this time, we evaluated this system and extended it to deal with reflected signals to assess multi-path problems.
