Carbon nanotubes (CNT) have been attracted much attention since they have been expected to be used in various areas by virtue of their outstanding physical, electrical, and chemical properties. In order to make full use of their prominent electric conductivity in some areas such as electron emission sources, device interconnects, and electrodes in energy storage devices, direct growth of CNT with vertical alignment is definitely beneficial issue because they can maintain mechanical stability and high conductivity at the interface between substrates. Here, we report direct growth of vertically aligned CNT (VCNT) on Cu foils using thermal chemical vapor deposition and characterize the field emission property of the VCNT. The VCNT's height was controlled by changing the growth temperature, growth time, and catalytic layer thickness. Optimum growth condition was found to be $800^{\circ}C$ for 20 min with acetylene and hydrogen mixtures on Fe catalytic layer of 1 nm thick. The diameter of VCNT grown was smaller than that of usual multi walled CNT. Based on the result of field emission characterization, we concluded that the VCNT on Cu foils can be useful in various potential applications where high conductivity through the interface between CNT and substrate is required.

Nanocrystalline titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) materials have been widely used as an electron collector in DSSC. This is required to have an extremely high porosity and surface area such that the dye can be sufficiently adsorbed and be electronically interconnected, resulting in the generation of a high photocurrent within cells. In particular, their geometrical structures and crystalline phase have been extensively investigated as important issues in improving its photovoltaic efficiency. In this study, we present a new strategy to fabricate a photoelectrode having a periodic structured $TiO_2$ film templated from 1D or 3D polystyrene (PS) microspheres array. Monodisperse PS spheres of various radiuses were used for colloidal array on FTO glasses and two types of photoelectrode structures with different $TiO_2$ materials were investigated respectively. One is the igloo-shaped electrode prepared by $TiO_2$ deposition by RF-sputtering onto 2D microsphere-templated substrates. At the interface between the film and substrate, there are voids formed by the decomposition of PS microspheres during the calcination step. These holes might be expected to play the predominant roles as scattering spherical voids to promote a light harvesting effect, a spacious structure for electrolytes with higher viscosity and effective paths for electron transfer. Additionally the nanocrystalline $TiO_2$ phase prepared by the RF-sputtering method was previously reported to improve the electron drift mobility within $TiO_2$ electrodes. This yields solar cells with a cell efficiency of 2.45% or more at AM 1.5 illumination, which is a very remarkable result, considering its $TiO_2$ electrode thickness (<2 ${\mu}m$). This study can be expanded to obtain higher cell efficiency by higher dye loading through the increase of surface area or multi-layered stacking. The other is the inverse opal photonic crystal electrode prepared by titania particles infusion within 3D colloidal arrays. To obtain the enlargement of ordered area and high quality of crystallinity, the synthesis of titania particles coated with a organic thin layer were applied instead of sol-gel process using the $TiO_2$ precursors. They were dispersed so well in most solvents without aggregates and infused successfully within colloidal array structures. This ordered mesoporous structure provides the large surface area leading to the enough adsorption of dye molecules and have an light harvesting effect due to the photonic band gap properties (back-and-forth reflection effects within structures). A major advantage of this colloidal array template method is that the pore size and its distribution within $TiO_2$ photoelectrodes are determined by those of latex beads, which can be controlled easily. These materials may have promising potentials for future applications of membrane, sensor and so on as well as solar cells.
The deposition properties of Si$_3$N$_4$ deposited by low pressure chemical vapor deposition were studied to evaluate Si$_3$N$_4$as part of multi-layer coatings for anti-oxidation and anti-wear coating of graphite in the propellant-burning environment. Si$_3$N$_4$was deposited on the pack-SiC coated graphite and the tendencies of deposition rate and surface morphology changes with temperatures and reaction gas ratios were investigated. In low deposition temperatures the deposition rate increased tilth increasing temperature but in high temperatures the deposition rate decreased with increasing temperature. The grain size of Si$_3$N$_4$decreased with increasing temperature. In condition that the range of reaction gas ratios is 20$\leq$NH$_3$/SiH$_4$$\leq$40, the deposition rate and surface morphology did not change. The Si$_3$N$_4$deposited at 800~130$0^{\circ}C$ was amorphous, and by post-annealing at 130$0^{\circ}C$ in a $N_2$ambient, the Si$_3$N$_4$crystalized.
This study examined changes in the ecological characteristics and design characteristics of Ban's exhibition space in three representative temporary exhibition halls and three permanent exhibition halls designed by Ban Shigeru since 2000. Through the investigation of the concepts and characteristics of ecological architecture, the design characteristics of exhibition space, the analysis framework of the design characteristics of exhibition space and the design elements of ecological architecture is obtained. The analysis results show that there are big changes between the temporary exhibition space and the permanent exhibition space in terms of building scale, space composition, function, materials and technology. On the one hand, the temporary exhibition space used recyclable materials, such as paper tubes, containers to be assembled on site into a single-layer space focused on display. The assembly method was simple and the construction period was short. After the exhibition, the exhibition space were dismantled. The materials were either transported to the next display site or recycled and reused. On the other hand, the permanent exhibition space used reinforced concrete as the main structure, and used a large amount of wood and glass materials to construct a multi-layered composite cultural space that separated the exhibition space and the leisure space. In terms of ecological characteristics, the building materials of the temporary exhibition space were recycled and no industrial wastes were generated after the demolition. The permanent exhibition hall uses eco-friendly wood for the roof and walls, so it is easy to replace and repair. Both types of exhibition halls are changing ecological architecture in a more sustainable direction by saving resources and energy through natural light and ventilation.
This study is suggested a new dielectric tracer test method to understand geological structure of porous media and groundwater flow to use the dielectric constant which is one of electrical special quality of various geological materials. To measure their parameters, tracer material is made an ethanol mixing liquid(EML) having a same specific gravity of water. Also, soil materials are prepared a dielectric tracer test using the FDR system that could measure dielectric constant for saturated standard sand and river sand layers which have different initial porosity. To compare with their results, we discussed with the concentration variation of saline water having a saline concentration $3\%$ which is general tracer material by using the electro multi-meter system in the laboratory or field test. In two tracer experiment results, EML tracer test could confirm definitely EML concentration variation from each saturated soil layer as standard and river sands. However, tracer test of saline water $3\%$ concentration could not confirm permeating movement of water by degree of salinity change because these are settled at lower part column in a whole column area continuously. These causes are that specific gravity of saline water is heavier than water. That is, it could know that deposition of saline water is composed of lower part of soil column continuously independently of the direction of water into saturated soil material.
Most of radiation protection clothing is made of lead with excellent radiation shielding because it has excellent process ability and economic efficiency and has a high atomic number. However, lead is classified as a hazardous heavy metal, and there is a risk of lead poisoning. Recently, research to replace lead has been actively conducted. In this study, a research on a shielding sheet with improved physical properties while maintaining the radiation shielding ability equivalent to that of conventional materials by mixing two materials that are harmless to the human body, such as BaSO4 and Bi2O3, and a silicone material binder Was performed. For comparison evaluation with the existing lead shielding sheet, the shielding rate was evaluated using a 40 degree shielding sheet having the highest porosity. As a result, it was analyzed that the shielding rate was superior to 9 % or more at the same thickness. In addition, as a result of studies to improve the physical properties of the shielding sheet, it was analyzed that the shielding sheet mixed with BaSO4/nylon/Bi2O3 was the best.

The stress of PSG (Phosphosilicate glass), USG (Undoped-silicate grass) and SiN films, which are mainly used as passivation layers in semiconductor memory devices, deposited by CVD methods has been studied as a function of film thickness and holding time in air. The stress of the PSG film or the USG film is increased in tensile state with increasing film thickness. On the other hand the stress level of the SiN film in compressive stress does not change as film thickness changes. The stress of PSG film shows the drastic change from the tensile stress to the compressive stress after the film is left 2 days in air. FTIR spectra indicated that the stress variation was due to the penetration of water molecule. It looks possible to recover the stress of about $2.5{\times}{10^9}dyne/cm^2$ by annealing treatment at $300^{\circ}C$ for 20min. The total stress of multi-layered films having the PSG film is determined mainly by the stress variation of PSG layer with holding time. The total stress of multi-layered film appears to have a functional relationship with the stress in the thickness of each film. The resistance against stress-migration of sputtered Al line increases with increasing the tensile stress for the PSG film or the USG film.

Purpose: The heat culture areas of greenhouses have been continuously increasing. In the face of international oil price fluctuations, development of energy saving technologies is becoming essential. To save energy, auxiliary heat source and thermal insulation technologies are being developed, but they lack cost-efficiency. The present study was conducted to save energy by developing a conceptually new semi-basement type greenhouse. Methods: A semi-basement type greenhouse, was designed and constructed in the form of a three quarter greenhouse as a basic structure, which is an advantageous structure to inflow sunlight. To evaluate the performance of the developed greenhouse, a similar structured general greenhouse was installed as a control plot, and heating tests were conducted under the same crop growth conditions. Results: Although shadows appeared during the winter in the semi-basement type greenhouse due to the underground drop, the results of crop growth tests indicated that there were no differences in crop growth and development between the semi-basement type greenhouse and the control greenhouse, indicating that the shadows did not affect the crop up to the height of the crop growing point. The amount of fuel used for heating from January to March was almost the same between the two greenhouses for tests. The heating load coefficients of the experimental greenhouses were calculated as $3.1kcal/m^2{\cdot}^{\circ}C{\cdot}h$ for the semi-basement type greenhouse and $2.9kcal/m^2{\cdot}^{\circ}C{\cdot}h$ for the control greenhouse. Since the value is lower than the double layer PE (polyethylene) film greenhouse value of $3.5kcal/m^2{\cdot}^{\circ}C{\cdot}h$ from a previous study, Tthe semi-basement type greenhouse seemed to have energy saving effects. Conclusions: The semi-basement type greenhouse could be operated with the same fuel consumption as general greenhouses, even though its underground portion resulted in a larger volume, indicating positive effects on energy saving and space utilization. It was identified that the heat losses could be reduced by installing a thermal curtain of multi-layered materials for heat insulation inside the greenhouse for the cultivation of horticultural products by installing thermal curtain of multi-layered materials for heat insulation inside the greenhouse, it was identified that the heat losses could be reduced.

The purpose of this study is to propose an evaluation method to assess green environments of streetscapes to improve urban street green spaces in Jeonju City. Through a rapid assessment of urban street green spaces, we suggest an objective basis for expanding street green space as well as for adopting sustainable maintenance and improvement measures. We choose 12 sections of streetscapes (roads and sidewalks) to investigate existing street conditions which have more than four lanes and function as major road axes. Six large roads and six medium roads of Jeonju City center area are investigated as pilot assessment study sites. Site inventory checklists consist of environmental characteristics of streetscape, street tree status, and planting condition evaluation. Environmental characteristics of streetscapes are composed of physical and neighborhood factors. For instance, items for physical factors are types and width of road/sidewalks, paving materials, tree protection materials, and green strip. And surrounding landuse is a neighborhood factor. Assessment items for street tree status are street plant names (tree/shrubs/ground cover), size, and planting intervals. Planting condition evaluation items are tree shape, damage, canopy density, and planting types with existence of adjacent green space. Evaluation results are classified into three levels such as A(maintain or repair), B(greening enhancement), and C(structural improvement). In case of grade A, streetscapes have enough sidewalk width for maintaining green strip and a multi-layered planting(in large road only) with fairly good growing conditions of street trees. For grade B and C, streetscapes have a moderate level of sidewalk width with a single street tree planting. In addition, street tree growing conditions are appeared poor so that green enhancement or maintenance measures are needed. For median, only grade B and C are found as its planting growing foundations are very limited in space. As a result, acquiring enough sidewalk space is essential to enhance ecological quality of urban street green. Especially, it is necessary to have green strip with reasonable widths for plant growing conditions in sidewalks. In addition, we need to consider native species with multi-layer plant compositions while designing street green.
Using a continuous injection tracer test at a multi-soil layer deposit, the difference of hydrodynamic dispersions in unsaturated and saturated zones were analyzed through breakthrough curves of Rhodamine WT, linear regression of concentration versus time, concentration variation rates versus time, and concentration ratio according to the distance from injection well. As a result of continuous injection tracer test, the difference of the maximum concentrations of Rhodamine WT in unsaturated and saturated zones were 13-15 times after 160 hours, and the increased rate of concentration versus time in unsaturated zone was about 10 times higher than in saturated zone. The fluctuation of Rhodamine WT breakthrough curve and concentration variation rate with time in saturated zone were larger than in unsaturated zone. Rhodamine WT concentration ratio with the distance from the injection well in saturation zone was linearly decreased faster than in unsaturated zone, and the elapsed time necessary for the concentration ratio less than 2 was longer in saturation zone. The differences resulted from the lower concentration and slower hydrodynamic dispersion of Rhodamine WT at the saturation zone of the multi-soil layer deposit, in which groundwater flow significantly flow and aquifer materials have high hydraulic heterogeneity. Effective porosity, longitudinal and transverse dispersivities were estimated $10.19{\sim}10.50%,\;0.80{\sim}1.98m$ and $0.02{\sim}0.04m$, respectively. The field longitudinal dispersivity is over 12 times larger than the laboratory longitudinal dispersivity by the scale-dependent effect.
