  • This study investigates the free vibration and buckling analyses of isotropic curved plate structures fixed at all ends. The Kirchhoff-Love Plate Theory (KLPT) and Finite Element Method (FEM) are employed to model the curved structure. In order to perform the finite element analysis, a four-node quadrilateral element with 5 degrees of freedom (DOF) at each node is utilized. Additionally, the drilling effect (θz) is considered as minimal to satisfy the DOF of the structure. Lagrange's equation of motion is used in order to obtain the first ten natural frequencies and the critical buckling values of the structure. The effects of various radii of curvatures and aspect ratio on the natural frequency and critical buckling load values for the single-bay and two-bay curved frames are investigated within this scope. A computer code based on finite element analysis is developed to perform free vibration and buckling analysis of curved plate frames. The natural frequency and critical buckling load values of the present study are compared with ANSYS R18.2 results. It has been concluded that the results of the present study are in good agreement with ANSYS results for different radii of curvatures and aspect ratio values of both single-bay and two-bay structures.

  • When the underwater structure sails high speed, noise and vibration propagate to the sensor in the nose of the dome. In this paper, to avoid this kind of noise and vibration CRP(Carbon Reinforced Plastic) material and SNORE ring(Self-NOise REduction Ring) are attached at the curved structure and simulates its isolation characteristics using commercial software. Vibration displacement and stress are calculated at the planar sensor array. The material of the curved structure is aluminum and maximum outer diameter is 53Omm, 215mm in length, 270mm in planar diameter, respectively. Based on the simulation results, reduction ratio of the received normal stress at the sensor is above 95% at the frequency of 12kHz and 15kHz. At the mid point of the planar sensor the normal stress is higher than 20mm and 40mm apart. This results can be used to increase the sensitivity of the acoustic sensor as a basic data.

  • Three-dimensional (3D) microfabrication process using two-photon polymerization (TPP) is developed to fabricate the curved microstructures in a layer, which can be applied potentially to optical MEMS, nano/micro-devices, etc. A 3D curved structure can be expressed using the same height-contours that are defined by symbolic colors which consist of 14 colors. Then, the designed bitmap figure is transformed into a multi-exposure voxel matrix (MVM). In this work a multi-exposure voxel matrix scanning method is used to generate various heights of voxels according to each laser exposure time that is assigned to the symbolic colors. An objective lens with a numerical aperture of 1.25 is employed to enlarge the variation of a voxel height in the range of 1.2 to 6.4 um which can be controlled easily using the various exposure time. Though this work some 3D curved micro-shapes are fabricated directly to demonstrate the usefulness of the process without a laminating process that is generally required in a micro-stereolithography process.

  • The present paper examines the natural frequency responses of the bi-directional (nx-ny, ny-nz and nz-nx) and multidirectional (nx-ny-nz) functionally graded (FG) plate and curved structures with and without porosity. The even and uneven kind of porosity pattern are considered to observe the influence of porosity type and porosity index. The numerical findings have been obtained using a higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT) based isometric finite element (FE) approach generated in a MATLAB platform. According to the convergence and validation investigation, the proposed HSDT based FE model is adequate to predict free vibrational responses of multidirectional porous FG plates and curved structures. Further a parametric analysis is carried out by taking various design parameters into account. The free vibrational behavior of bidirectional (2D) and multidirectional (3D) perfect-imperfect FGM structure is examined against various power law index, support conditions, aspect, and thickness ratio, and for the curvature of curved structures. The results indicate that the maximum non-dimensional fundamental frequency (NFF) value is observed in perfect FGM plates and curved structures compared to porous FGM plates and curved structures and it is maximum for FGM plates and curved structures with uneven kind of porosity than even porosity.

  • Large curved plate blocks are widely used to construct hull structure in shipbuilding industry. Most curved plates are manufactured by using manual method called as line heating that use deformation caused by residual stress after local heating along a line which is perpendicular to the curvature direction. However, its working environment is poor and its formability is totally dependent on an experienced technician. In view of that, multi-point dieless forming (MDF) technology that use reconfigurable punch arrays instead of one piece die is proposed in this study. The MDF process is based on a concept of equivalent die surface made by numbers of punches which has round tip at the end of it. In this study, numerical simulation for common curvature type such as saddle shape was carried out. In addition, experiments in the plate forming process were also conducted to compare with the numerical results in view of final configuration. Consequently, it was noted that the proposed dieless forming method has considerable feasibility to substitute the new process for conventional manual method.

  • Flexible die is more efficacious than fixed die which is generally used in stretch forming process in view of production cost. Accordingly, in order to verily the validity of the flexible forming process, curved thin skin structure forming analyses using the fixed and flexible die were performed. As results, merit and demerit with regard to the fixed and flexible die were confirmed. The result of the stretch forming process analysis using the flexible die was better than that using the fixed die in view of the elastic recovery. However wrinkles were occurred on the sheet material due to die cavities between the punches in the flexible forming process, thus the solutions against these problems were presented.

  • Diamond wheels with fine grains and multi-porous structures are newely trial developed for smoothing and mirror finishing materials. Grinding wheel must have performed both to remove tool marks efficienitly and to contact elastically with curved surfaces, that are employed for ultra precision and high performance grinding of difficult-to materials such as tungsten carbide alloy using tool and die materials, Diamond grains are bonded by a melamine resin to prevent the decrease of machining efficiency due to grain sinking within the bond materials. Also, highly foamed structures are developed to increase the flexibility of the grinding wheel, and to induce self-sharpening by increasing contact pressure between the grinding wheel and workpiece surfaces. In this paper, melamine-bonded diamond wheels try to manufacture, then the forming method of grinding wheel are suggested, and the grinding characteristics of melamine-bonded diamond grinding wheel are also illustrated.

  • Microstructural morphology of molded composites of thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer(LCP) and polyamide 6 (PA6) has been studied as a function of epoxy fraction. Injection-moulding of a thin composite plaque at a temperature below the melting point of the LCP fibrils by suing the extruded LCP/PA6 pellets produced multi-layered structures: 1) the surface skin layer with thickness of 65-120 ym exhibiting a transverse orientation, 2) the sub-skin layer with an orientation perpendicular to the surface skin, i.e. in the flow direction, 3) the core layer with arc-curved flow patterns. Similar microstructural orientations were observed in the respective layers for the composite plaques with different fractions of epoxy.

  • This paper discusses the singly curved phased reflector for reduced RCS pattern, which has minimized RCS level at boresight with a null by phase cancelation and the lowered RCS level of main beam by splitting the main beam into multi directions. Considering the reduced level of boresight and main beam compared to the same sized reference PEC, this proposed multi-beam reflector can be adopted in the mono-static radar and the bi-static radar environment. The proposed reflector is a multi-beam reflector, which has different phase distributions at each row for different steering angle. It is designed through an intermediate stage of a single and dual-beam reflector. The behaviors of the designed reflectors are verified through full-wave simulation and experiment. The reflectors are designed in the frequency of 10 GHz and it has a size $240{\times}180mm^2$($8{\times}6\;{\lambda}^2$) with the curvature k=3.3. From the measured results, the proposed reflectors reduce the reflected power by 17 dB at boresight.
