  • This paper proposes a novel algorithm for the efficient classification and retrieval of medical images. After color and edge features are extracted from medical images, these two feature vectors are then applied to a multi-class Support Vector Machine, to give membership vectors. Thereafter, the two membership vectors are combined into an ensemble feature vector. Also, to reduce the search time, Correlated Categories Vector is proposed for similarity matching. The experimental results show that the proposed system improves the retrieval performance when compared to other methods.

  • In this paper, we focused on the problem of evaluating multi-class classification accuracy and simulation of multiple classifier performance metrics. Multi-class classifiers for sentiment analysis involved many challenges, whereas previous research narrowed to the binary classification model since it provides higher accuracy when dealing with text data. Thus, we take inspiration from the non-linear Support Vector Machine to modify the algorithm by embedding dynamic hyperplanes representing multiple class labels. Then we analyzed the performance of multi-class classifiers using macro-accuracy, micro-accuracy and several other metrics to justify the significance of our algorithm enhancement. Furthermore, we hybridized Enhanced Convolution Neural Network (ECNN) with Dynamic Support Vector Machine (DSVM) to demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the classifier towards multi-class text data. We performed experiments on three hybrid classifiers, which are ECNN with Binary SVM (ECNN-BSVM), and ECNN with linear Multi-Class SVM (ECNN-MCSVM) and our proposed algorithm (ECNNDSVM). Comparative experiments of hybrid algorithms yielded 85.12 % for single metric accuracy; 86.95 % for multiple metrics on average. As for our modified algorithm of the ECNN-DSVM classifier, we reached 98.29 % micro-accuracy results with an f-score value of 98 % at most. For the future direction of this research, we are aiming for hyperplane optimization analysis.

  • Condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of machines are gaining importance in the industry because of the need to increase reliability and to decrease possible loss of production due to machine breakdown. By comparing the nitration signals of a machine running in normal and faulty conditions, detection of faults like mass unbalance, shaft misalignment and bearing defects is possible. This paper presents a novel approach for applying the fault diagnosis of rotating machinery. To detect multiple faults in rotating machinery, a feature selection method and support vector machine (SVM) based multi-class classifier are constructed and used in the faults diagnosis. The results in experiments prove that fault types can be diagnosed by the above method.

  • We developed a XMAS (X Multimedia Analysis System) for analyzing the illegal and objectionable multimedia in Internet environment based on Web2.0. XMAS uses the MPEG-7 visual descriptor and multi-class SVM (support vector machine) and its performance (accuracy on precision) is about 91.6% for objectionable multimedia analysis and 99.9% for illegal movie retrieval.

  • In this paper, we propose an i-vector based language recognition system to identify the spoken language of the speaker, which uses multiple discriminative deep neural network (DNN) models analogous to the multi-class support vector machine (SVM) classification system. The proposed model was trained and tested using the i-vectors included in the NIST 2015 i-vector Machine Learning Challenge database, and shown to outperform the conventional language recognition methods such as cosine distance, SVM and softmax NN classifier in open-set experiments.

  • The information of vehicle is very important for maintaining traffic order under the present complex traffic environments. This paper proposes a new vehicle plate recognition mechanism that is essential to know the information of vehicle. The proposed method uses SVM which is excellent object classification compare to other methods. Two-class SVM is used to find the location of vehicle plate and multi-class SVM is used to recognize the characters in the plate. As a real-time processing system using multi-step image processing and recognition process this method recognizes several different vehicle plates. Through the experimental results of real environmental image and recognition using the proposed method, the performance is proven.

  • In this paper we propose an incremental classification of multi-class data set by LS-SVM. By encoding the output variable in the training data set appropriately, we obtain a new specific output vectors for the training data sets. Then, online LS-SVM is applied on each newly encoded output vectors. Proposed method will enable the computation cost to be reduced and the training to be performed incrementally. With the incremental formulation of an inverse matrix, the current information and new input data are used for building another new inverse matrix for the estimation of the optimal bias and lagrange multipliers. Computational difficulties of large scale matrix inversion can be avoided. Performance of proposed method are shown via numerical studies and compared with artificial neural network.

  • As one of multi-class classification methods, ECOC (Error Correcting Output Coding) method is known to have low classification error rate. This paper aims at suggesting effective multi-class classification method (1) by comparing various encoding methods and decoding methods in ECOC method and (2) by comparing ECOC method and direct classification method. Both SVM (Support Vector Machine) and logistic regression model were used as binary classifiers in comparison.

  • More elaborated methods allowing the usage of binary classifiers for the resolution of multi-class classification problems are briefly presented. This way of using FSVC to learn a K-class classification problem consists in choosing the maximum applied to the outputs of K FSVC solving a one-per-class decomposition of the general problem.
