Simultaneous and Multi-frequency Driving System of Ultrasonic Sensor Array for Object Recognition

  • Ultrasonic sensors are widely used in mobile robot applications to recognize external environments, because they are cheap, easy to use, and robust under varying lighting conditions. However, the recognition of objects using a ultrasonic sensor is not so easy due to its characteristics such as narrow beam width and no reflected signal from a inclined object. As one of the alternatives to resolve these problems, use of multiple sensors has been studied. A sequential driving system needs a long measurement time and does not take advantage of multiple sensors. Simultaneous and pulse coding driving system of ultrasonic sensor array cannot measure short distance as the length of the code becomes long. This problem can be resolved by multi-frequency driving of ultrasonic sensors, which allows multi-sensors to be fired simultaneously and adjacent objects to be distinguished. Accordingly, this paper presents a simultaneous and multi-frequency driving system for an ultrasonic sensor array for object recognition. The proposed system is designed and implemented using a DSP and FPGA. A micro-controller board is made using a DSP, Polaroid 6500 ranging modules are modified for firing the multi-frequency signals, and a 5-channel frequency modulated signal generating board is made using a FPGA. To verify the proposed method, experiments were conducted in an environment with overlapping signals, and the flight distances for each sensor were obtained from filtering of the received overlapping signals and calculation of the time-of-flights.

  • This paper presents an active position control of a single-rod cylinder system featuring an electrorheological(ER) fluid-based valve. The ER fluid consisting of silicone oil and chemically treated particles is firstly composed and its Bingham property is tested as a function of imposed electric field. A multi-channel plate type of ER valve is then designed and manufactured on the basis of the field-dependent Bingham model. Performance test of the ER valve is undertaken by evaluating pressure drop with respect to the number of electrode as well as the intensity of the electric field. Subsequently, the ER valve-cylinder system is constructed and its governing equation of motion is derived. A neural control scheme for position control of the cylinder is formulated by incorporating proportional-plus-derivative(PD) controller and implemented. Experimental results of both regulating and tracking control responses are presented in order to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed ER valve-cylinder control system.

  • The active noise cancellation system showing the effective convergence and stability has been studied by simplifying the controller structures using the weighting factors of control error path to the multi-channel filtered-x LMS algorithm which needs a lot of calculations and the performance has been verified experimentally. Besides, to implement the system performance in a vehicle cabin, experimental work for selecting the suitable numbers and positions of the microphones and speakers was accomplished. Effectively combining a TMS 320C 31 main processor conducting real number calculations and having various functions with other components, the purpose-built system board for active noise cancellation has been designed and with this board, car active noise cancellation system showing maximum stable 10dB noise reduction has been obtained at the car idling conditions above 3000rpm range.

멀티링 설계규칙검사를 위한 효과적인 하드웨어 가속기 (MultiRing An Efficient Hardware Accelerator for Design Rule Checking)

  • We propose a hardware architecture called Multiring which is applicable for various geometrical operations on rectilinear objects such as design rule checking in VLSI layout and many image processing operations including noise suppression and coutour extraction. It has both a fast execution speed and extremely high flexibility. The whole architecture is mainly divided into four parts` I/O between host and Multiring, ring memory, linear processor array and instruction decoder. Data transmission between host and Multiring is bit serial thereby reducing the bandwidth requirement for teh channel and the number of external pins, while each row data in the bit map stored in ring memory is processed in the corresponding processor in full parallelism. Each processor is simultaneously configured by the instruction decoder/controller to perform one of the 16 basic instructions such as Boolean (AND, OR, NOT, and Copy), geometrical(Expand and Shrink), and I/O operations each ring cycle, which gives Multiring maximal flexibility in terms of design rule change or the instruction set enhancement. Correct functional behavior of Multiring was confirmed by successfully running a software simulator having one-to-one structural correspondence to the Multiring hardware.

  • 본 논문에서 는 64채널 DWDM(Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing)용 광원(Optical Source)을 구현하고, 이를 효율적으로 제어하기 위하여 I$^2$C Bus interface를 이용한 제어기를 설계하였다. 채널은 독립적으로 동작될 수 있도록 각각 Laser Diode 구동 회로와 마이크로프로세서, A/D 및 D/A 컨버터로 구성하였으며, 또한 각 채널들은 하나의 I$^2$C Bus를 통해 주 제어기와 연결된다 주 제어기는 RS-232 및 LAN을 통해 틀어오는 사용자의 명령을 I$^2$C Bus를 이용하여 각 채널에 전달하고, 채널로부터 들어오는 정보를 사용자에게 제공한다. RS-232C 및 LAN을 통한 PC와의 전송속도는 57600BPS로 구현하였다.

  • The impedance of an underwater acoustic transducers constituting a multi-channel array structure could be changed in real time by various transmission modes. A power amplifier for driving the transducers usually use a voltage control method, so the transducer and power amplifier may be damaged by over-power due to changeable load conditions. Therefore, the drive controller of the power amplifier should have the function of limiting the power. This paper propose the new voltage control method for limiting the driving power of transducers with variable impedance characteristics.

  • 기존 아날로그식 방송에서 디지털 양방향 방송이 본격화됨에 따라, 시청자에게 제공되어지는 콘텐츠와 채널의 수가 기하급수적으로 늘어나고 있다. 이러한 다채널 다매체 시대에 국내 디지털 방송의 표준인 유럽의 DVB-MHP 표준안을 준수한 EPG(Electronic Program Guide : 전자 프로그램 가이드)는 시청자에게 TV 시청을 편리하게 제공할 수 있는 서비스이자 필수 요소이다. 그러나 방대한 TV 콘텐츠와 그에 따른 채널수에 인해 단순한 리모콘의 동작만으로 채널을 탐색하기에는 어려움이 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 시청자가 선호하는 DiTV용 콘텐츠를 제공하기 위해 MHP 기반의 Java Xlet 어플리케이션을 이용하여 시청자의 콘텐츠선호도와 비슷한 선호도집단 내에서 서로 추천해주는 협업필터링 알고리즘을 적용한 콘텐츠 추천 EPG를 설계 및 구현하였으며, OpenMHP 에뮬레이터를 통해 결과를 확인하였다.

음성과 영상정보를 결합한 멀티모달 제어기의 구현 (Implementation of a Multimodal Controller Combining Speech and Lip Information)

  • 본 논문에서는 음성과 영상정보를 결합한 멀티모달시스템을 구현하고 그 성능을 평가하였다. 음성정보를 이용해서 음성인식기를, 영상정보를 이용해서 입술인식기를 설계하였으며, 두 인식기는 HMM (Hidden Markov Model) 기반의 인식엔진을 사용하였다. 음성과 영상인식의 결과는 각각 8:2의 가중치를 부여하여 통합하였다. 한편, 구축된 멀티모달 인식시스템은 DARC (data radio channel)시스템과 통합되어 응용프로그램인 Comdio(computer radio)를 제어하도록 구현하였다. 멀티모달과 DARC시스템, 멀티모달시스템 내에서 두 인식기간의 정보교환은TCP/IP소켓 방식을 사용하였다. 통합시스템의 Comdio 제어실험의 결과는 입술인식이 음성인식기의 보조수단으로 사용될 수 있음을 보였으며, 향후교통정보 및 자동차항법장치에 적용되어짐으로써 그 적용분야를 넓힐 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

  • 최근 스마트폰 기기의 공급 확대로 저전력 블루투스(BLE)와 같은 무선통신과 다양한 센서 네트워크의 접근성에 의해 근접한 데이터 정보를 손쉽게 공유하는 사물인터넷(IoT)의 활용빈도가 높아지고 있다. 자동문 역시 2.5m~3m 높이에 설치된 제어부 동작 상태에 의한 고장유무와 원인을 파악하고 관리자에게 신속한 정보를 원격으로 제공하는 응용 프로그램의 개선으로서 BLE 기반의 연구가 가능하다. 현재 자동문 또한 원활한 관리환경을 위해 많은 진화를 추구하고 있는 현실이다. 제안한 시스템은 BLE 모듈를 추가 확장하여 기존 관리의 문제점으로 지적되고 있는 자동문의 정상상태 및 고장증상을 제어부를 통해서 일괄적으로 확인하는 스마트기기의 애플리케이션 구현으로 현장실험을 진행하였다. 본 논문의 결과를 바탕으로 이종기기 간의 데이터 신뢰도를 평가와 기존 자동문의 제어부의 통신모듈의 확장 가능성을 제공하는 기초자료가 되며, 향후 자동문의 제어부가 다 채널로 구성될 경우의 중앙관리 감시체제를 구축하는 계기가 될 것이다.

  • Ultrasonic sensors are widely used in mobile robot applications to recognize external environments, because they are cheap, easy to use, and robust under varying lighting conditions. In most cases, a single ultrasonic sensor is used to measure the distance to an object based on time-of-flight (TOF) information, whereas multiple sensors are used to recognize the shape of an object, such as a corner, plane, or edge. However, the conventional sequential driving technique involves a long measurement time. This problem can be resolved by pulse coding ultrasonic signals, which allows multi-sensors to be fired simultaneously and adjacent objects to be distinguished. Accordingly, the current presents a new simultaneous coded driving system for an ultrasonic sensor array for object recognition in autonomous mobile robots. The proposed system is designed and implemented using a DSP and FPGA. A micro-controller board is made using a DSP, Polaroid 6500 ranging modules are modified for firing the coded signals, and a 5-channel coded signal generating board is made using a FPGA. To verify the proposed method, experiments were conducted in an environment with overlapping signals, and the flight distances for each sensor were obtained from the received overlapping signals using correlations and conversion to a bipolar PCM-NRZ signal.
