  • This paper presents the study on multi-beam large aperture antenna systems for a satellite payload. Multi-beam large antenna provides the universal communication and broadcasting services to personal portable terminals. The hybrid antenna composed of a large reflector and a feed array forms multi-beams. The feed cluster consists of a group of feed elements and each element should be optimized for the appropriate amplitude and phase. The optimization progress for amplitude and phase was performed by GO (Geometrical Optics) and PO (Physical Optics) method. The number of feed elements as well as the power level per element were also optimized to meet the required EIRP (Effective Isotropically Radiated Power). In conclusion, 30m-class reflector and twenty five elements for fifteen beams over Korean Peninsula were designed through the optimization process.

  • In this paper, we investigate the performance of Signal to Leakage and Noise Radio (SLNR) based user scheduling in uplink of multi-cell with large-scale antenna system. Large antenna array is desired to improve the performance in future system by providing better beamforming capability. However, some studies have found that the signal channel is 'hardened' (becomes invariant) when the antenna number goes extremely large, which implies that the signal channel aware user scheduling may have no gain at all. With the mathematic tool of order statistics, we analyzed the signal and interference terms of SLNR in a homogeneous multicell network. The derived distribution function of signal and interference shows that the leakage channel's variance is much more influential than the signal channel's variance in large-scale antenna regime. So even though the signal channel is hardened, the SLNR-based scheduling can achieve remarkable multiuser diversity (MUD) gain due to the fluctuation of the uplink leakage channel. By providing the final SINR distribution, we verify that the SLNR-based scheduling can leverage MUD in a better way than the signal channel based scheduling. The Monte Carlo simulations show that the throughput gain of SLNR-based scheduling over signal channel based scheduling is significant.

  • In this paper, we have proposed the sectorization method of the adaptive sector antenna and the new receiver structure for the CDMA wireless multi-media communication which uses multi-code and single-code. The sectorization and average BER performance of the adaptive sector antenna, which employs the proposed sectorization method, are obtained through simulation. The simulation results have shown that the sizes of sectors are properly controlled according to the distribution of the load and that the BER performance of the adaptive sector antenna is enhanced much more than that of the fixed sector antenna. Also, we have proposed two receivers, which are different from the positions to detect multi-code signals, for the multi-media communication. Each receiver has a simple cancellation scheme and two adaptive sector antennas, which are called the 1st adaptive sector antenna and the 2nd adaptive sector antenna, respectively. In this paper, the average BER performances of the receivers are compared through simulation. As the results of the simulation, we have recognized that all user' BER performances are greatly dependent on the positions to detect the multi-code signals. When we consider both system complexity and terget BERs of signals, we have concluded that the receiver, which detect multi-code signals in the 1st and the 2nd adaptive sector antenna, is appropriate for the CDMA wireless multi-media communication systems.

  • In this paper, we designed and implemented a PIFA(Planer Inverted F Antenna) and IFA(Inverted F Antenna) hybrid antenna for the data communication terminal such as smart phone. Studied hybrid antenna has multi-band characteristics by the simultaneous operation both PIFA and IFA under a feeding structure. VSWR measurement of implemented antenna was satisfied 3:1 over GSM900/USPCS/WCDMA band. Measured average gains and efficiencies were -2.19~-3.63 dBi and 43.31~60.33 % for the GSM900 band, and -2.16~-10.67 dBi and 8.56~60.78 % for the USPCS/WCDMA band.

  • Transmit antenna selection techniques are prominent since they exploit the spatial selectivity at the transmitter side. In the literature, antenna selection techniques assume full knowledge of the channel state information (CSI). In this paper, we consider that the CSI is not perfectly known at the transmitter; however, a quantized version of the channel coefficients is fed back by the users. We employ the non-uniform Lloyd-Max quantization algorithm which takes into consideration the distribution of the channel coefficients. Simulation results show that the degradation in the BER of the system with imperfect CSI at the transmitter is tolerable, especially when the transmit diversity order is high.

  • Recently mobile devices can transmit mass data contained multi-media contents. According these flow, a demand for fast data transmission is being risen, so we acutely require remarkable technology that overcome mobile communication's poor environment and rise data transmission volume. Because it can be satisfied these needs, the OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) that rise data transmission volume using efficient frequency, and MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output) that rise transmission confidence and data transmission volume using numbers of antenna is attended. Before design of MIMO-OFDM System we want to make an analysis for theory of its systems, and we want to design MIMO-OFDM simulator for verify an ability of modulation, data volume and numbers of antenna.

  • MC-CDMA and OFDM are digital modulation techniques where a single data symbol is transmitted at multiple subcarriers which we orthogonal to each other. With this technique, frequency diversity can be achieved. The performance of multi currier systems is analyzed. when data is transmitted over multi-path Rayleigh fading channel. The performance of this technique, gauged by the average bit error rate, is numerically analyzed for the system with the application of antenna diversity.

  • Time-reversal (TR) precoding focuses the energy of the effective channel in time and improves receive performance of a single tap receiver. Frequency-domain equal-gain-combining (FD-EGC) TR scheme, which works in linear block precoding fashion, has better temporal focusing performance than the traditional TR. Also, the FD-EGC improves receive performance of minimum mean square error receiver with distributed antenna systems (DAS). The detailed receive performance of the FD-EGC was analyzed in our previous work. In this paper, we focused on capacity analysis of the FD-EGC in DAS. We derived a scaling law which shows how the use of multiple antenna can increase the capacity of the FD-EGC precoding compared with that of no precoding. In addition, we analyze the secrecy rate of the FD-EGC which shows how high-rate messages can be transmitted towards an intended user without being decoded by the other users from the view point of information theoretic security.
