Direction of arrival (DoA) estimation is a scheme of estimating the directions of targets by analyzing signals generated or reflected from the targets and is used in various fields. Artificial neural networks (ANN) is a field of machine learning that mimics the neural network of living organisms. They show good performance in pattern recognition. Although researches has been using ANNs to estimate the DoAs, there are limitationsin dealing with variations of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the target signals. In this paper, we propose a three-stage ANN algorithm for DoA estimation. The proposed algorithm can minimize the performance reduction by applying the model trained in a single SNR environment to various environments through a 'noise reduction process'. Furthermore, the scheme reduces the difficulty in learning and maintains efficiency in estimation, by employing a process of DoA shift. We compare the performance of the proposed algorithm with Cramer-Rao bound (CRB) and the performances of existing subspace-based algorithms and show that the proposed scheme exhibits better performance than other schemes in some severe environments such as low SNR environments or situations in which targets are located very close to each other.

Ground-based interceptors(GBI) comprise a major element of the strategic defense against hostile targets like Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles(ICBM) and reentry vehicles(RV) dispersed from them. An optimum design of the subsystems is required to increase the performance and reliability of these GBI. Propulsion subsystem design and optimization is the motivation for this effort. This paper describes an effort in which an entire GBI missile system, including a multi-stage solid rocket booster, is considered simultaneously in a Genetic Algorithm(GA) performance optimization process. Single goal, constrained optimization is performed. For specified payload and miss distance, time of flight, the most important component in the optimization process is the booster, for its takeoff weight, time of flight, or a combination of the two. The GBI is assumed to be a multistage missile that uses target location data provided by two ground based RF radar sensors and two low earth orbit(LEO) IR sensors. 3Dimensional model is developed for a multistage target with a boost phase acceleration profile that depends on total mass, propellant mass and the specific impulse in the gravity field. The monostatic radar cross section (RCS) data of a three stage ICBM is used. For preliminary design, GBI is assumed to have a fixed initial position from the target launch point and zero launch delay. GBI carries the Kill Vehicle(KV) to an optimal position in space to allow it to complete the intercept. The objective is to design and optimize the propulsion system for the GBI that will fulfill mission requirements and objectives. The KV weight and volume requirements are specified in the problem definition before the optimization is computed. We have considered only continuous design variables, while considering discrete variables as input. Though the number of stages should also be one of the design variables, however, in this paper it is fixed as three. The elite solution from GA is passed on to(Sequential Quadratic Programming) SQP as near optimal guess. The SQP then performs local convergence to identify the minimum mass of the GBI. The performance of the three staged GBI is validated using a ballistic missile intercept scenario modeled in Matlab/SIMULINK.
As can be seen in the statistics on domestic performance facilities, small or large scale of acoustic renovations seem to be unavoidable in many of those facilities due to its senility. However it is hard to find case studies which can be referred to for its acoustic renovation process. This study tried to provide a case study example of acoustic renovation for a high school auditorium which has many restrictions as a cultural heritage building. Requirements from the client and acoustic problems found through a field measurement of existing space motivated acoustic design solutions and alternatives which can improve the acoustics of the space. The whole process from the initial stage of diagnosing acoustic problems to the final stage of a post acoustic evaluation after the completion of construction was described. The result from the post acoustic evaluation suggested that reverberation characteristics of the space as well as definition and clarity have been greatly improved by applying acoustic design solutions and alternatives. However, loudness of sounds in the space didn't reach the aimed level, which is due to the limited capability of slat ceiling structure for providing strong early reflections.

Laser-Induced Thermal Imaging (LITI) is a laser addressed patterning process and has unique advantages such as high-resolution patterning with over all position accuracy of the imaged stripes of within 2.5 micrometer and scalability to large-size mother glass. This accuracy is accomplished by real-time error correction and a high-resolution stage control system that includes laser interferometers. Here the new concept of hybrid system that complement the merits of small molecule and polymer to be used as an OLED; our system can realize easy processing of light emitting polymers and high luminance efficiency of small molecules. LITI process enables the stripes to be patlerned with excellent thickness uniformity and multi-stacking of various functional layers without having to use any type of fine metal shadow mask. In this study, we report a full-color hybrid OLED using the multi-layered structure consisting of small molecules and polymers.

In this paper, we propose a new methodology which includes the optimal design procedure of Polynomial Neural Networks(PNN) structure for model identification of complex and nonlinear system. The proposed PNN algorithm is based on GMDA(Group Method of Data handling) method and its structure is similar to Neural Networks. But the structure of PNN is not fixed like in conventional Neural Networks and can be generated. The each node of PNN structure uses several types of high-order polynomial such as linear, quadratic and cubic, and is connected as various kinds of multi-variable inputs. In other words, the PNN uses high-order polynomial as extended type besides quadratic polynomial used in GMDH, and the number of input of its node in each layer depends on that of variables used in the polynomial. The design procedure to obtain an optimal model structure utilizing PNN algorithm is shown in each stage. The study is illustrated with the aid of pH neutralization process data besides representative time series data for gas furnace process used widely for performance comparison, and shows that the proposed PNN algorithm can produce the model with higher accuracy than previous other works. And performance index related to approximation and prediction capabilities of model is evaluated and also discussed.

A hybrid mid-story seismic isolation system with a smart damper has been proposed to mitigate seismic responses of tall buildings. Based on previous research, a hybrid mid-story seismic isolation system can provide effective control performance for reduction of seismic responses of tall buildings. Structural design of the hybrid mid-story seismic isolation system is generally performed after completion of structural design of a building structure. This design concept is called as an iterative design which is a general design process for structures and control devices. In the iterative design process, optimal design solution for the structure and control system is changed at each design stage. To solve this problem, the integrated optimal design method for the hybrid mid-story seismic isolation system and building structure was proposed in this study. An existing building with mid-story isolation system, i.e. Shiodome Sumitomo Building, was selected as an example structure for more realistic study. The hybrid mid-story isolation system in this study was composed of MR (magnetorheological) dampers. The stiffnessess and damping coefficients of the example building, maximum capacity of MR damper, and stiffness of isolation bearing were simultaneously optimized. Multi-objective genetic optimization method was employed for the simultaneous optimization of the example structure and the mid-story seismic isolation system. The optimization results show that the simultaneous optimization method can provide better control performance than the passive mid-story isolation system with reduction of structural materials.
Die slide injection marvelously reduces the cost and time in processing plastic products because they can simplify the conventional process through eliminating additional process. However, this process must resolve some defects like whitening, resin infiltration, blowhole, resin overflow, etc. In this study, the process parameters of the injection molding are optimized by using the finite element method and Taguchi method. The injection molding analysis is simulated by employing the Moldflow insight 2010 code and the 2nd injection is by adopting the Multi-stage injection code. The process parameters are optimized by using the $L_{16}$ orthogonal array and smaller-the-better characteristics of the Taguchi method that was used to produce an airtight container (coolant reservoir tank) from polypropylene (PP) plastic material.rodanwhile, the optimum values are confirmed to be similar in 95% confidence and 5% significance level through analysis of variance (ANOVA). rooreover, new products and old products were compared by mdasuring the dimensional accuracy, resulting in the improvement of dimensional stability more than 5%.
In this study, using a wet chemical process, we evaluate the effectiveness of different solution concentrations in removing layers from a solar cell, which is necessary for recovery of high-purity silicon. A 4-step wet etching process is applied to a 6-inch back surface field(BSF) solar cell. The metal electrode is removed in the first and second steps of the process, and the anti-reflection coating(ARC) is removed in the third step. In the fourth step, high purity silicon is recovered by simultaneously removing the emitter and the BSF layer from the solar cell. It is confirmed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy(ICP-MS) and secondary ion mass spectroscopy(SIMS) analyses that the effectiveness of layer removal increases with increasing chemical concentrations. The purity of silicon recovered through the process, using the optimal concentration for each process, is analyzed using inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy(ICP-AES). In addition, the silicon wafer is recovered through optimum etching conditions for silicon recovery, and the solar cell is remanufactured using this recovered silicon wafer. The efficiency of the remanufactured solar cell is very similar to that of a commercial wafer-based solar cell, and sufficient for use in the PV industry.
The gasification process has developed to convert coal into the more useful energy and material since decades. Despite the numberous design of ones, entrained flow gasifier of the major companies has had an advantage on the market. Because it has a merit of full-scale and high performance plant. In this paper, the gasification technologies of GE energy, Phillips, Siemens and Shell have been reviewed to compare their characteristics and a high performance gasification process was suggested. And the simulation model of gasifiers using Aspen Plus offered the quantitative comparison data for difference designs. The simulation results revealed the poor performance of the slurry feed than dry design. The corresponding cold gas efficiency of 77% is much lower than the 80.3% for the dry feed cases. The exergy analysis of the difference syngas quenching system showed that chemical quenching is superior to another. The results of analysis recommend the two stage gasifier with dry multi-feeder as the energy effective design.

FDM is one of the popular 3D printing technologies because of an inexpensive extrusion machine and multi-material printing. FDM can use thermoplastics such as ABS and PLA. The 3D-printed ABS parts fabricated by FDM are attractive in the automotive industry because of their weight. A 10% reduction in weight can increase the fuel economy by approximately 7%. To use 3D-printed ABS parts as automotive parts, we should evaluate the 3D-printed parts in terms of automotive reliability. In this study, 3D-printed ABS samples were evaluated using Ono's rotary bending fatigue test. We obtained an S-N curve for the 3D-printed ABS specimen from the finite-element analysis. The S-N curve can be useful in early-stage design decisions for 3D-printed ABS parts.
