  • Various groups of industrial and agricultural pollutants (heavy metal ions, cyanides, and pesticides) can be detected by enzymes. Since heavy metal ions inhibit urease, cyanides inhibit peroxidase, organophosphorus and carbamate pesticides inhibit butyrylcholinesterase, these enzymes were co-immobilized into a bovine serum albumin gel on the surface of an ion-sensitive field effect transistor to create a bioprobe that is sensitive to the compounds mentioned above. The sensitivity of the present sensor towards KCN corresponded to $1\;\mu\textrm{M}$ with 1 min of incubation time. The detection limits for Hg(II) ions and the pesticide carbofuran were 0.1 and $0.5\;\mu\textrm{M}$, respectively, when a 10 min sensor incubation time in contaminated samples was chosen. The total time for determining the concentrations of all species mentioned did not exceed 20 min.

  • Multi-channel sensors can be used to increase the reliability and remove the random iloise in ion-sensitive field effect transistors(ISFETs). Multi-channel sensors is also an essential step toward potential fabrication of sensors for several ionic species in one device. However, when the multi-channel sensors are separately biased, the biasing problems become difficult, that is to say, the bias circuit is needed as many sensors. In this work, a circuit for biasing the four pH-ISFETs in null-balance method, where bias voltages are switched, was proposed. The proposed concept is need only one bias circuit for the four sensors. Therefore it has advantages of smaller size and lower power consumption than the case that all sensors are separately biased at a time. The proposed circuit was tested with discrete devices and its performance was investigated. In the recent trend, sensor systems are implemented as portable systems. So the verified measurement circuit was integrated by using the CMOS circuit. Fortunately, ISFET fabrication process can be compatible with CMOS process. Full circuit has a mask area of $660{\mu}m{\times}500{\mu}m$. In the future, this step will be used for developing the smart sensor system with ISFET.

  • Nature utilizes various of the colorization process. Some species of birds can express their mood of tempers by changing their collagen structures on skin. For example, turkey can change their skin color by expansion of the collagen structures, which are associated with the distinct color changes. Here, we developed bioinspired virus-based colorimetric sensors which can be genetically tuned for target molecule. Using M 13 bacteriophage, we fabricated responsive self-assembled color matrices composed of quasi-ordered fiber bundle structures. These virus matrices can exhibit color change by stimuli through fiber bundle structure modulation. Upon exposure of volatile organic compounds, the resulting multi-colored matrices exhibited distinct color changes with different ratios that can be recognized by the naked eyes. Using the directed evolutionary approaches, we genetically engineered the virus matrix to incorporate binding motif for explosive detection (i.e., trinitrotoluene (TNT)). Through utilizing a common handheld device (i.e., iPhone), we could distinguish TNT molecules down to 20 ppb in a selective manner. Our novel biomimetic virus colorimetric sensor can overcome current limitation for low response selectivity.

  • On-chip micro humidity sensor, using $CN_x$ films for the sensing material, was designed, simulated, and fabricated with Op amp based readout circuit and diode temperature sensors. To compensate the temperature and other gases, two methods were applied. One is wheatstone-bridge with reference FET that eliminates other undesirable chemical species, and the other is a diode temperature sensor to compensate the temperature effect. $CN_x$ film can be a new humidity sensing material, and has a strong potential to adapt to smart sensors or multi-sensors using MEMS or nano-technology. A particular design technology for integration of sensors and systems together was proposed that whole fabrication process could be achieved by a standard CMOS process.

  • Recently, several ICT-based cat studies have produced some successful results, according to academic and industry sources. However, research on the level of simply identifying the cat's condition, such as the behavior and sound classification of cats based on images and sound signals, has yet to be found. In this paper, based on the veterinary scientific knowledge of cats, a practical and academic cat monitoring and disease diagnosis system is proposed to monitor the health status of the cat 24 hours a day by automatically categorizing and analyzing the behavior of the cat with location information using LSTM with a beacon sensor and a raspberry pie that can be built at low cost. Validity of the proposed system is verified through experimentation with cats in actual custody (the accuracy of the cat behavior classification and location identification was 96.3% and 92.7% on average, respectively). Furthermore, a rule-based disease analysis system based on the veterinary knowledge was designed and implemented so that owners can check whether or not the cats have diseases at home (or can be used as an auxiliary tool for diagnosis by a pet veterinarian).

  • A highly sensitive electrochemical detection method for bisphenol A (BPA) has been developed by using multi-walled carbon nanotube (CNT)-doped titania-Nafion composite modified glassy carbon (GC) electrode. The CNT-titania-Nafion/GC electrode exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity towards BPA. Therefore, the CNT-titania-Nafion/GC electrode showed improved voltammetric responses for BPA compared to that obtained with bare GC electrode. In addition, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), a cationic surfactant, was added into the BPA sample solution in order to accumulate BPA through hydrophobic interaction between CTAB and BPA. The CNT-titania-Nafion/GC electrode gave a linear response ($r^2$ = 0.999) for BPA from $1.0{\times}10^{-8}$ M to $5.0{\times}10^{-6}$ M with a detection limit of $9.0{\times}10^{-10}$ M (S/N = 3). The modified electrode showed good selectivity against interfering species and also exhibited good reproducibility. The present electrochemical sensor based on the CNT-titania-Nafion/GC electrode was applied to the determination of BPA in food package samples.

The types of industrial toxic substances are known about 700 species and many of these exist in gaseous form under normal conditions. he multi-gas detection sensors will be developed for casualties that detect the most important and find easy three kinds of gases in marine plant; carbon dioxide(CO2), carbon(CO), ammonia(NH3). Package block consists of gas sensing device minor ingredient, rf front end, zigbee chip. Develope interworking technology between the sensor and zigbee chip inside a package. Conduct a performance test through test jig about prototype zigbee sensor module with rf output power and unwanted emission test. This research task available early address when poisonous gas leaked from large industrial site and contribution for workers' safety at the enclosed space.
