  • The depth camera measures range information of the scene in real time using Time-of-Flight (TOF) technology. Measured depth data is then regularized and provided as a depth image. This depth image is utilized with the stereo or multi-view image to generate high-resolution depth map of the scene. However, it is required to correct noise and distortion of TOF depth image due to the technical limitation of the TOF depth camera. The corrected depth image is combined with the color image in various methods, and then we obtain the high-resolution depth of the scene. In this paper, we introduce the principal and various techniques of sensor fusion for high-quality depth generation that uses multiple camera with depth cameras.

  • In this paper we propose new image coding using wavelet transform. The new method constructs hierarchical bit plane and progressively transports each bit plane. The Proposed algorithm not only supports multi-resolution, dividing original image into special band and various resolution using Antonini's wavelet basis function but also reduces blocking effects that come into JPEG. In encoding time this algorithm considers each band characters and priority of transport order, and applies to fast search of image.

  • The 3D DWT(The Three Dimensional Discrete Wavelet Transform) scheme is potentially regarded as useful one on analyzing both spatial and spectral information. Nevertheless, few researchers have attempted to process or classified remotely sensed images using the 3D DWT. This study aims to apply the 3D DWT to the land cover classification of optical and SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) images. Then, their results are evaluated quantitatively and compared with the results of traditional classification technique. As the experimental results, the 3D DWT shows superior classification results to conventional techniques, especially dealing with the high-resolution imagery and SAR imagery. It is thought that the 3D DWT scheme can be extended to multi-temporal or multi-sensor image classification.

  • We propose a universal image processor for a-Si TFT LCD of UXGA class that can display the full screen on the LCD panel with low resolution of video sources such as NTSC, VGA, SVGA, XGA, and SXGA by using the proposed interpolation filter. In addition, we propose a real-time contrast controller for image improvement of multi-gray scale image. The operation of the proposed methods has been verified using Synopsys VHDL and computer simulation. Results show that the proposed methods might be suitable for a UXGA LCD controller for real-time image improvement.

  • SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) is a technology to acquire images by processing signals obtained from radar, and there is an increasing demand for utilization of high-resolution SAR images. In this paper, for high-speed processing of high-resolution SAR image data, a study for SAR image processing algorithms to achieve optimal performance in multi-core based computer architecture is performed. The performance deterioration due to a large amount of input/output data for high resolution images is reduced by maximizing the memory utilization, and the parallelization ratio of the code is increased by using dynamic scheduling and nested parallelism of OpenMP. As a result, not only the total computation time is reduced, but also the upper bound of parallel performance is increased and the actual parallel performance on a multi-core system with 10 cores is improved by more than 8 times. The result of this study is expected to be used effectively in the development of high-resolution SAR image processing software for multi-core systems with large memory.

  • To restore image degraded by motion blur and additive noise, In conventional method, regularization is usually applied to all over the image without considering the local characteristics of image. As a result, ringing artifacts appear in edge regions and the noise amplification is introduced in flat regions. To solve this problem we propose an adaptive regularization iterative restoration using wavelet directional considering edges and the regularization operator with no direction for flat regions. We verified that the proposed method showed results in the suppression of the noise amplification in flat regions, and introduced less ringing artifacts in edge regions.

  • A novel multiframe super-resolution (SR) algorithm is presented to overcome the limitation of existing single-image SR algorithms using motion information from adjacent frames in a video. The proposed SR algorithm consists of three steps: i) definition of a local region using interframe motion vectors, ii) multiscale patch generation and adaptive selection of multiple optimum patches, and iii) combination of optimum patches for super-resolution. The proposed algorithm increases the accuracy of patch selection using motion information and multiscale patches. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm performs better than existing patch-based SR algorithms in the sense of both subjective and objective measures including the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and structural similarity measure (SSIM).

  • This paper presents an imaging system for reconstruction of enhanced color images using the conventional Bayer CFA. By extracting various colors such as RGBCY from two sequential images which consist of a image by broadband G channel lens filter and the other image captured without one, the proposed color image reconstruction system can reduce the computational complexity for demosaicking and make high resolution color information without aliasing artifacts. Because the proposed system uses the common Bayer CFA image sensor, fabricating a new type of CFA is not necessary for obtaining a multi-spectral image, which can be easily extensible for applications of multi-spectral imaging. Finally, in order to verify the performance of the proposed system, experimental results are performed. By comparing with the existing demosaicking methods, the proposed camera system showed the significant improvements in the sense of color resolution.

  • The demand for high-resolution images is gradually increasing, whereas many imaging systems yield aliased and undersampled images during image acquisition. In this paper, we propose a high-resolution image reconstruction algorithm considering inaccurate subpixel registration. A regularized Iterative reconstruction algorithm is adopted to overcome the ill-posedness problem resulting from inaccurate subpixel registration. In particular, we use multichannel image reconstruction algorithms suitable for application with multiframe environments. Since the registration error in each low-resolution has a different pattern, the regularization parameters are determined adaptively for each channel. We propose a methods for estimating the regularization parameter automatically. The preposed algorithm are robust against the registration error noise. and they do not require any prior information about the original image or the registration error process. Experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithms outperform conventional approaches in terms of both objective measurements and visual evaluation.
