When a slow-moving vehicle occupies one of the lanes of a multi-lane highway, it often causes queuing behind, unlike one is caused by an actual stoppage on that lane. This happens when the traffic flow rate upstream from the slow vehicle exceeds a certain critical value. This phenomena is called as the Moving Bottleneck, defined by Gazis and Herman (1992), Newell (1998) [3], and Munoz and Daganzo (2002), who conducted the flow estimates of upstream and downstream and considered slow-moving vehicle speed and the flow ratio exceeding slow vehicle and the microscopic traffic flow characteristics of moving bottleneck. But, a study of delay on moving bottleneck was not conducted until now. So this study provides a average delay time model related to upstream flow and the speed of slow vehicle. We have chosen the two-lane highway and homogeneous traffic flow. A slow-moving vehicle occupies one of the two lanes. Average delay time value is a result of AIMSUN[9], the microscopic traffic flow simulator. We developed a multiple regression model based on that value. Average delay time has a high value when the speed of slow vehicle is decreased and traffic flow is increased. Conclusively, the model is formulated by the negative exponential function.

We have studied the port-automation system which is requested by the steep increment of cost and complexity for processing the freight. This paper will introduce a new algorithm for navigating and controlling the autonomous Guided Vehicle (AGV). The camera has the optical distortion in nature and is sensitive to the external ray, the weather, and the shadow, but it is very cheap and flexible to make and construct the automation system for the port. So we tried to apply to the AGV for detecting and tracking the lane using the CCD camera. In order to make the error stable and exact, this paper proposes new concept and algorithm for obtaining the error is generated by the Virtual Photo-Sensor Array (VPSA). VPSAs are implemented by programming and very easy to use for the various autonomous systems. Because the load of the computation is light, the AGV utilizes the maximal performance of the CCD camera and enables the CPU to take multi-tasks. We experimented on the proposed algorithm using the mobile robot and confirmed the stable and exact performance for tracking the lane.

A subsea pipeline designed across active shipping lane prones to failure against external interferences such as anchorage activities, hence risk assessment is essential. It requires quantifying the geometric probability derived from ship traffic distribution based on Automatic Identification System (AIS) data. The actual probability density function from historical vessel traffic data is ideal, as for rapid assessment, conceptual study, when the AIS data is scarce or when the local vessels traffic are not utilised with AIS. Recommended practices suggest the probability distribution is assumed as a single peak Gaussian. This study compares several fitted Gaussian distributions and Monte Carlo simulation based on actual ship traffic data in main ship direction in an active shipping lane across a subsea pipeline. The results shows that a Gaussian distribution with five peaks is required to represent the ship traffic data, providing an error of 0.23%, while a single peak Gaussian distribution and the Monte Carlo simulation with one hundred million realisation provide an error of 1.32% and 0.79% respectively. Thus, it can be concluded that the multi-peak Gaussian distribution can represent the actual ship traffic distribution in the main direction, but it is less representative for ship traffic distribution in other direction. The geometric probability is utilised in a quantitative risk assessment (QRA) for subsea pipeline against vessel anchor dropping and dragging and vessel sinking.
In this paper, we design a future mobile camera standard interface based on the MIPI CSI-2 and D-PHY specification. The proposed CSI-2 have the efficient multi-lane management layer, which the independent buffer on the each lane are merged into single buffer. This scheme can flexibly manage data on multi lanes though the number of supported lanes are mismatched in a camera processor transmitter and a host processor. The proposed CSI-2 & D-PHY are verified under test bench. We make an experiment on CSI-2 & D-PHY with FPGA type test-bed and implement them onto a mobile handset. The proposed CSI-2 & D-PHY module are used as both the bridge type and the future camera processor IP for SoC.

In companion paper, the composition and structure of the traffic environment is derived. Rules to regulate agent behaviors and the frameworks to communicate between the agents are proposed. In this paper, the model of a driver agent which controls a vehicle agent is constructed. The driver agent is capable of having different driving styles. That is, each driver agent has individual behavior settings of the yielding index and the passing index. The yielding index can be defined as how often the agent yields in case of lane changes, and the passing index can be defined as how often the agent passes ahead. According to these indices, the agents overtake or make their lanes for other vehicles. Similarly, the vehicle agents can have various vehicle dynamic models. According to their dynamic characteristics, the vehicle agent shows its own behavior. The vehicle model of the vehicle agent contains the nonlinear subcomponents of engine, torque converter, automatic transmission, and wheels. The simulation has proceeded for an interrupted flow model. The result has shown that it is possible to express the characteristics of each vehicle and its driver in a traffic flow, and that the change of the traffic state is closely related with the distance and the signal delay between intersections. The system developed in this paper shows the effectiveness and the practical usefulness of the traffic simulation.
Over the past few years, due to the climate change of the earth, the Arctic's sea ice cover is undergoing a historic transformation - thinning, extent reduction in all seasons, and mitigation in the area of multi-year ice in the central Arctic Ocean. These changes allow for increases in maritime access throughout the Arctic Ocean and for potential longer seasons of navigation and possibly transarctic voyage in the summer. These changes also allow more exploration for oil, gas, and other minerals. The Arctic is now an archetype of the complex, multi-dimensional global problems of the twenty-first century. Military security, environmental security, and economic security interact. The potentially enormous economic stakes, sufficient to change the strategic balance among the states of the region, set off competitive pressures for national advantage. Korea, which is heavily dependent upon the sea lane in terms of transportation of its exports and imports, is very much interested in the Arctic sea routes. Korea believes that the Artic sea route, particularly the Northern Sea Route (NSR), could serve as a new useful sea lane, which will enable shorter times between East Asia and Europe, thus resulting in substantial cost saving for ship operators. In addition to shipping, Korea is interested in other Arctic-related maritime industries. Korea, as a leading shipbuilder in the global market, is interested in building ice breakers, drill ships, and other vessels which can contribute to safe operation in Arctic resource development and exploration. Korea, as one of the future stakeholders in Arctic maritime activities, should be ready to foster international cooperation in the region.
Since real road experiments have many restrictions, a multi-vehicle traffic simulator can be an effective tool to develop and evaluate fully automated driving systems. This paper presents multi-vehicle environment simulation tool to develop and evaluate motorway automated driving systems. The proposed simulation tool consists of following two main parts: surrounding vehicle model and environment sensor model. The surrounding vehicle model is designed to quickly generate rational complex traffic situations of motorway. The environment sensor model depicts uncertainty of environment sensor. As a result, various traffic situations with uncertainty of environment sensor can be proposed by the multi-vehicle environment simulation tool. An application to automated driving system has been conducted. A lane changing algorithm is evaluated by performance indexes from the multi-vehicle environment simulation tool.
The purpose of this study was to evaluated noise environment of the low-rise multi-family house in Athens, Georgia. The results of this study can be applied to the prevention of noise when planning multi-family houses, roads and cities in Korea. The subjects of this study were the place of 1m, 10m, 50m, 100m from 4-lane road ofT apartment and 233 residents lived in the low-rise multi-family houses in Athens. The results of this study were as follows. 1. The average noise level at 1m, 10m, 50m and 100m was 55.5dB, 46.7dB, 43.0dB, 43.0dB and 41.2dB respectively from 4-lane road of T apartment. From the view of the standard in this study, the physical noise was good. 2. The results of the residents subjective response on the noise were as follows. The external noise residents felt - that was a noise by operating machines, and traffic noise - ware as 2.57 on average. The noise by the daily activities, the noise of nature are a little as 2.38 on average. They were disturbed a little by the external noise. They felt the solid born sounds(average 2.49) more than airbone sound(average 2.23) by the internal noise. They are suffered worse from noise in summer and they worse from 8-12 oclock due to external noise and 16-20 oclock due to internal noise. Comparing the noise environment of Korean with that of American, I found a meaningful difference of nature and the noise of daily activities of external noise and all internal noise.
For decades, simulation technique has been well validated in areas such as computer and communication systems. Recently, the technique has been much used in the area of transportation and traffic forecasting. Several methods have been proposed for investigating complex traffic flows. However, the dynamics of vehicles and diversities of driver characteristics have never been considered sufficiently in these methods, although they are considered important factors in traffic flow analysis. In this paper, we propose a traffic simulation tool called Multi-Agent for Traffic Simulation with Vehicle Dynamics Model (MATDYMO). Road transport consultants, traffic engineers and urban traffic control center managers are expected to use MATDYMO to efficiently simulate traffic flow. MATDYMO has four sub systems: the road management system, the vehicle motion control system, the driver management system, and the integration control system. The road management system simulates traffic flow for various traffic environments (e.g., multi-lane roads, nodes, virtual lanes, and signals); the vehicle motion control system constructs the vehicle agent by using various vehicle dynamic models; the driver management system constructs the driver agent capable of having different driving styles; and lastly, the integrated control system regulates the MATDYMO as a whole and observes the agents running in the system. The vehicle motion control system and driver management system are described in the companion paper. An interrupted and uninterrupted flow model were simulated, and the simulation results were verified by comparing them with the results from a commercial software, TRANSYT-7F. The simulation result of the uninterrupted flow model showed that the driver agent displayed human-like behavior ranging from slow and careful driving to fast and aggressive driving. The simulation of the interrupted flow model was implemented as two cases. The first case analyzed traffic flow as the traffic signals changed at different intervals and as the turning traffic volume changed. Second case analyzed the traffic flow as the traffic signals changed at different intervals and as the road length changed. The simulation results of the interrupted flow model showed that the close relationship between traffic state change and traffic signal interval.
Korean Highway Capacity Manual applies 7 adjustment factors to estimate saturation flows at signalized intersections. Among the adjustment factors, the right-turn adjustment factor uses equation hard to understand and requires complicated computing process comparing other adjustment factors. Thus. this study was conducted in order to suggest a new technique of estimating the right-turn adjustment factor which is easy to understand and simple to computer by having reasonable degree of accuracy. In this study the right-turn saturation flow ratios which are important in estimating the factor are suggested and the equation to estimate the volume of right-turn on red signal(RTOR) is developed based on observed data. The right-turn saturation flow rates can be estimated according to turning radius and number of lanes of crossing road dividing right-turn lanes into canalized and uncanalized lanes. The RTOR volume is estimated using the proportion of the time during which RTOR is possible to the whole time of red signal according to the through traffic volume per lane of the approach at signalized intersections. The technique of estimating the right-turn adjustment factor suggested in this study, which follows the HCM2000 of U.S. in principal, first judges the right-turn lane to be used exclusively for right-turn or not by employing the RTOR factor and the judging equation developed in this study. Next, if the right-turn lane is not exclusive right-turn lane, the shared right-turn lane is classified into single lane approach or multi lane approach. Thus, a total of three methods of estimating the right-turn adjustment factor to the three cases are suggested in this study.
