A comparison of three performance-based seismic design methods for plane steel braced frames

  • This work presents a comparison of three performance-based seismic design methods (PBSD) as applied to plane steel frames having eccentric braces (EBFs) and buckling restrained braces (BRBFs). The first method uses equivalent modal damping ratios (ξk), referring to an equivalent multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) linear system, which retains the mass, the elastic stiffness and responds in the same way as the original non-linear MDOF system. The second method employs modal strength reduction factors (${\bar{q}}_k$) resulting from the corresponding modal damping ratios. Contrary to the behavior factors of code based design methods, both ξk and ${\bar{q}}_k$ account for the first few modes of significance and incorporate target deformation metrics like inter-storey drift ratio (IDR) and local ductility as well as structural characteristics like structural natural period, and soil types. Explicit empirical expressions of ξk and ${\bar{q}}_k$, recently presented by the present authors elsewhere, are also provided here for reasons of completeness and easy reference. The third method, developed here by the authors, is based on a hybrid force/displacement (HFD) seismic design scheme, since it combines the force-base design (FBD) method with the displacement-based design (DBD) method. According to this method, seismic design is accomplished by using a behavior factor (qh), empirically expressed in terms of the global ductility of the frame, which takes into account both non-structural and structural deformation metrics. These expressions for qh are obtained through extensive parametric studies involving non-linear dynamic analysis (NLDA) of 98 frames, subjected to 100 far-fault ground motions that correspond to four soil types of Eurocode 8. Furthermore, these factors can be used in conjunction with an elastic acceleration design spectrum for seismic design purposes. Finally, a comparison among the above three seismic design methods and the Eurocode 8 method is conducted with the aid of non-linear dynamic analyses via representative numerical examples, involving plane steel EBFs and BRBFs.

저층건축물의 구조골조 설계용 풍압계수 및 풍하중 평가 약산식의 제안 (A Proposal of the Wind Pressure Coefficient and Simplified Wind Load Estimating Formula for the Design of Structural Frames of the Low-Rise Buildings)

  • 본 연구는 각주형 저층건축물에 작용하는 지점별 풍압을 다점동시측정시스템을 이용하여 건물 폭과 깊이변화에 따른 평균풍압분포 특성에 대한 기초적인 결과를 정리한 것이다. 본 실험에서는 건물의 폭과 깊이를 변화시킨 5개의 각주형 풍압실험모형이 사용되었으며, 풍동실험은 금오공과대학교 소재 토출식 경계층풍동에서 실시하였다. 실험결과는 저층건축물의 건물 폭 및 깊이의 변화에 따른 저층건축물의 평균풍압분포 변화경향을 건축물의 풍상면, 풍측면 및 풍하면 중심으로 특성을 분석하였다. 실험결과를 토대로 저층건축물의 구조골조 설계용 풍하중을 합리적으로 산정하기 위해 필요한 새로운 풍압계수 및 간략한 약산식을 제시하였다.

매입형 합성보의 휨 성능 평가 -속 빈 프리캐스트 콘크리트 슬래브와 비대칭 H형강 철골보- (Flexural Capacity of Encased Composite Beam with Hollow Core PC Slabs)

  • 본 연구에서는 합성보의 전체 춤을 절감할 수 있도록 속 빈 프리캐스트 콘크리트 슬래브를 철골보의 춤내에 삽입하여 일체화함으로써 철골조 고층건물에서 층고를 최소화 할 수 있는 이른바 "슬림플로어"공법에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 본 연구는 콘크리트에 매입된 비대칭 철골보를 가지는 불완전 합성 슬림플로어 시스템의 휨 거동에 관한 것이다. 총 10개의 실대형 실험체를 철골보 춤, 속빈 프리캐스트 콘크리트 슬래브 춤, 슬래브 유효폭, 및 콘크리트 슬래브의 지지방식 별로 제작하여 실험을 수행하였다. 실험결과, 매입형 합성보의 경우, 별도의 전단연결재를 설치하지 않아도 자체가 가지고 있는 기계적 화학적 부착응력으로 인해 완전합성보에 비해서 0.48~0.98의 전단합성비를 나타내었다.

  • Many researchers have studied on the lightness of automobile. These researches are such as a body shell, sub frame, fuel tank, engine etc. The transmission Part is a magnitude one in the aspect of weight. A drive shaft (propeller shaft) transmits the engine power to rear differential gear assembly. It is used in the compact car that is a single drive shaft. But in the case of long body cars such as SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle), truck and large vehicle, two or three divided drive shaft are used to prevent the vibration damage from a drive shaft that has been taken high torsion and rotation. This multi-divided drive shaft structure is so heavy because it is assembled by yoke, center bearing and solid spline axis. When the rear axle move up and down, the spline shaft adjust the variation of a length between the transmission and rear axle gearbox. In this paper, it is studied in the experimental method that is a bending vibration characteristic of slip in tube shaped propeller shaft. This type propeller shaft is developed to combine the spline axis with drive shaft and can be light in weight of transmission part.

디지털 변화에 따른 뷰티제품의 휴대기능성 연구 (A study in Mobile Functionality of beauty products according to the Digital changes)

  • The instant trend of mobile functionality in the digital age is performing a mediating role of promoting the hybrid tendency in fashion and cosmetics industry. Consumers' needs, which are getting complex and diversified along with development in scientific technology, are requiring product of technology equipped with multi-tasking function in the whole industry. The social and cultural factors, which are shown in cosmetics due to the instant trend of mobile functionality, came to be known on the basis of a ground for classification caused by a change in nomadic lifestyle and by the advance in scientific technology. The irst, The mobile functionality, which is being developed in fashion in the digital age, was indicated to be types such as mobility, one-off, and unity. Second, Even the types of mobile functionality, which are also being developed in make-up and cosmetics in digital age, were indicated to be mobility, one-off, and unity. Third, The trend caused by mobile functionality in fashion was consistent with a type in mobile functionality, which is being developed in cosmetics, thereby having been indicated to be the same type. This implies that there is the same type through independent trend in each sphere even while fashion and cosmetics organically function in the middle of the whole frame, which expresses a human being's external beauty, and implies that even the cosmetics are influenced by fashion. Swift-type beauty product, which is thrown away within one week lengthily and after being used once, are being launched diversely. This quick product can be said to be product that best reflected the characteristic of digital age. However, at this point of time that fast fashion and instant cosmetics, which are thrown away in the wake of being worn easily, are overflowing, the clothing and product with perfection, which has philosophy and thinking of being put more devotion, exert more value and are felt to be necessary.

Impact of multiple firings and resin cement type on shear bond strength between zirconia and resin cements

  • PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of multiple firings on the bond strength between yttriatetragonal zirconia polycrystals (Y-TZP) and 2 types of resin cements. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Sixty 3Y-TZP specimens (LAVA Frame Multi) were divided into 3 groups depending on the following firing procedures: (1) 2-firing cycles, (2) 5-firing cycles, (3) 10-firing cycles. Two samples from each group were investigated by using SEM to determine the morphological changes. All specimens were treated with 125 ㎛ airborne-particle abrasion and the surface roughness of each specimen was measured. The specimens from each firing group were then further divided into 2 subgroups (n = 9) to apply 2 types of resin cement (MDP-free resin cement: RelyX Unicem-RU, and MDP containing resin cement: Panavia F 2.0-PA). The shear bond strength (SBS) test was performed and failure types of all the debonded specimens were classified by using a stereomicroscope as adhesive, cohesive, and mixed. The statistical analysis of surface roughness and SBS data were performed by using 1-way ANOVA and 2-way ANOVA followed by Tukey-HSD tests (α=.05). Failure modes were calculated as a percentage for each group. RESULTS. The bond strength of RU and PA to the specimens obtained with 2 firings were not statistically different from each other (P=.1). However, the SBS values of PA were found to be significantly higher than RU for the specimens obtained with 5 and 10 firing cycles (P=.001 and P=.02, respectively). Surface roughness analysis revealed no statistical difference between groups (P=.2). The SEM analysis of samples fired 5- and 10- times showed irregularities and boundary loss in zirconia grains, and empty spaces between zirconia grains. CONCLUSION. The bond strength of PA cement was higher than that of RU to the zirconia subjected to repeated firings (5 and 10 firing cycles). When zirconia is subjected to multiple firings, using MDP-containing resin cement can be recommended.

APON에서 멀티미디어 전송을 위한 효율적인 MAC 프로토콜 (An Efficient MAC Protocol for Supporting Multimedia Services in APON)

  • 본 논문에서는 트리 구조의 가입자망인 APON(ATM over Passive Optical Network)에서 멀티미디어 정보를 보다 효율적으로 제공하기 위한 매체 접근 제어 프로토콜을 제안하였다. 제안된 프로토콜은 사용자 측에서 발생한 원래의 트래픽 패턴을 손상시키지 않으면서 상향 데이터 흐름을 효과적으로 다중화할 수 있도록 하고, ATM 트래픽 클래스별 전송 품질(QoS)의 특성을 반영하였다. 이를 위하여 먼저 요구-허락형 전송 구조에서 다양한 요구 방식에 따른 성능을 분석하여, 각 트래픽 클래스에 적합한 요구 방식을 설정하고, 오버헤드를 최소화할 수 있는 전송 프레임 구조를 제안하였다. 또한 OLT의 셀 허락 분배 과정에서 ATM 클래스별로 각기 다른 우선 순위를 주어 셀 전송에 대한 허락을 스케줄링 한다. 제안한 허락 분배 알고리즘은 전송 지연과 CDV에 엄격한 성능을 요구하는 CBR/VBR 트래픽에 우선적으로 허락을 분배하고, ABR 트래픽은 최소 셀 전송률(MCR)을 보장하면서 이용 가능한 대역폭을 동적으로 사용하도록 하였으며, UBR 트래픽은 가장 낮은 우선 순위를 가지고 남은 대역을 사용하게 된다. 따라서 트래픽 속성을 변화시키지 않고 ATM 셀을 전달\ulcorner 가능하여 멀티미디어 전송에 있어 전송 품질(QoS)을 만족시킬 수 있다. 제안한 프로토콜에 대한 성능 평가를 위하여 평균 전송 지연 시간 및 CDV(Cell Delay Variation)등의 관점에서 시뮬레이션을 실시하고 성능 평가 결과를 기술하였다.

TMS320C6201을 이용한 적응 다중 전송율을 갖는 광대역 음성부호화기의 실시간 구현 (Real-Time Implementation of Wideband Adaptive Multi Rate (AMR-WB) Speech Codec Using TMS32OC6201)

  • 본 논문에서는 적응 다중 전송율을 갖는 광대역 음성부호화기인 AMR-WB 의 알고리즘을 분석하고, TI사의 고정소수점 DSP인 TMS320C6201를 이용한 실시간 구현 결과를 제시한다. AMR-WB 음성부호화기는 두 가지 대 역으로 분리된 신호가 독립적으로 부호화되며, 저대역 신호는 ACELP 방식으로、 고대역 신호는 잡음 여기신호와 선형예측 합성필터를 사용하는 방식으로 각각 합성된다. 구현된 AMR-WB 음성부호화기는 프로그램 메모리와 데이터 메모리가 각각 218 kbytes, 92kbytes의 크기를 가지며 , 한 프레임인 20 ms를 처리하는데 평균 920,267 정도의 클릭 수가 사용되어 약 5.75 ms의 시간이 소요 되였다. 또한, DSP로 구현한 AMR-WB 음성부호화기의 결과와 PC에서 시뮬레이션 한 결과가 서로 일치함을 확인하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는, HCCA로 동작되는 IEEE 802.11e MAC의 Transmission Opportunity (TXOP) 구간을 동적으로 제어함으로서, 무선 Local Area Network (LAN) 환경에서 실시간 멀티미디어 트래픽의 전송 성능을 향상시키는 방식을 제안한다. 프레임의 전송 시기 및 시간을 결정하는 스케줄러의 기존 방식은 무선 단말의 전송률 변화에 상관없이 TXOP 구간을 고정하기 때문에 무선 통신 환경 변화를 동적으로 반영하지 못하는 문제점을 내포하고 있다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 제안방식에서는 무선 단말의 전송률이 낮아지더라도 TXOP 구간이 확대됨으로서, 사용자로부터 발생된 실시간 멀티미디어 트래픽의 전송이 최대한 유지될 수 있도록 한다. 제안방식의 성능 분석을 위해, IEEE 802.11e 참조모델과 함께 NCTUns 시뮬레이터를 이용한 모의실험을 수행하였으며, 그 결과 제안방식은 무선통신 거리 변화에 따른 전송률 변화에도 실시간 멀티미디어 트래픽의 전송이 효과적으로 이루어짐을 확인하였다.

On the influence of strong-ground motion duration on residual displacement demands

  • This paper summarizes results of a comprehensive analytical study aimed at evaluating the influence of strong ground motion duration on residual displacement demands of single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) and multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) systems. For that purpose, two sets of 20 earthquake ground motions representative of short-duration and long-duration records were considered in this investigation. While the influence of strong ground motion duration was evaluated through constant-strength residual displacement ratios, $C_r$, computed from the nonlinear response of elastoplastic SDOF systems, its effect on the amplitude and height-wise distribution of residual drift demands in MDOF systems was studied from the response of three one-bay two-dimensional generic frame models. In this investigation, an inelastic ground motion intensity measure was employed to scale each record, which allowed reducing the record-to-record variability in the estimation of residual drift demands. From the results obtained in this study, it was found that long strong-motion duration records might trigger larger median $C_r$ ratios for SDOF systems having short-to-medium period of vibration than short strong-motion duration records. However, taking into account the large record-to-record variability of $C_r$, it was found that strong motion duration might not be statistically significant for most of the combinations of period of vibration and levels of lateral strength considered in this study. In addition, strong motion duration does not have a significant influence on the amplitude of peak residual drift demands in MDOF systems, but records having long strong-motion duration tend to increase residual drift demands in the upper stories of long-period generic frames.
