In this study we propose a novel approach to segment a terrain in two parts: ground and none-ground. The terrain is gained by a multi-channel 3D laser range sensor. We process each vertical line in each frame data. The vertical line is bounded by the sensor's position and a point in the largest circle of the frame. We consider each pair of two consecutive points in each line to find begin-ground and end-ground points. All points placed between a begin-ground point and an end-ground point are ground ones. The other points are none-ground. After examining all vertical lines in the frame, we obtain the terrain segmentation result.
This paper describes the open frame type high power density switching converter. It is based on active clamp forward converter with synchronous rectifier, and packaged by using the open frame and multi-layer printed circuit board (PCB) techniques to achieve the high power density. Furthermore, windings of transformer and inductor are also realized by multi-layer PCB so that it achieves the higher power density. Through the experiment on the proto-type converter of 50[W], it is confirmed that power density of $50[W/in^3]$ and maximum efficiency of over 91 [%] are obtained.
We propose a frame loss concealment algorithm for multi-view video sequences based on correspondence matching, which can hide the effects of frame losses efficiently. To achieve high PSNR performances, we employ a block error concealment scheme to refine the concealed results. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm effectively protects the quality of reconstructed videos against transmission errors.

This paper presents an analytical model for the estimation of initial lateral stiffness of steel moment resisting frames with masonry infills. However, rather than focusing on the single bay-single storey substructure, the developed model attempts to estimate the global stiffness of multi-storey and multi-bay frames, using an assembly of equivalent springs and taking into account the shape of the lateral loading pattern. The contribution from each infilled frame panel is included as an individual spring, whose properties are determined on the basis of established diagonal strut macro-modeling approaches from the literature. The proposed model is evaluated parametrically against numerical results from frame analyses, with varying number of frame stories, infill openings, masonry thickness and modulus of elasticity. The performance of the model is evaluated and found quite satisfactory.
Significant improvements to methodologies on structural damage detection (SDD) have emerged in recent years. However, many methods are related to inversion computation which is prone to be ill-posed or ill-conditioning, leading to low-computing efficiency or inaccurate results. To explore a more accurate solution with satisfactory efficiency, a PSO-INM algorithm, combining particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm and an improved Nelder-Mead method (INM), is proposed to solve multi-sample objective function defined based on Bayesian inference in this study. The PSO-based algorithm, as a heuristic algorithm, is reliable to explore solution to SDD problem converted into a constrained optimization problem in mathematics. And the multi-sample objective function provides a stable pattern under different level of noise. Advantages of multi-sample objective function and its superior over traditional objective function are studied. Numerical simulation results of a two-storey frame structure show that the proposed method is sensitive to multi-damage cases. For further confirming accuracy of the proposed method, the ASCE 4-storey benchmark frame structure subjected to single and multiple damage cases is employed. Different kinds of modal identification methods are utilized to extract structural modal data from noise-contaminating acceleration responses. The illustrated results show that the proposed method is efficient to exact locations and extents of induced damages in structures.

Recently, the enormous increase in the volume of remotely sensed data is being acquired by an ever-growing number of earth observation satellites. The combining of diversely sourced imagery together is an important requirement in many applications such as data fusion, city modeling and object recognition. Aerial triangulation is a procedure to reconstruct object space from imagery. However, since the different kinds of imagery have their own sensor model, characteristics, and resolution, the previous approach in aerial triangulation (or georeferencing) is performed on a sensor model separately. This study evaluated the advantages of aerial triangulation of large number of images from multi-sensors simultaneously. The incorporated multi-sensors are frame, push broom, and whisky broom cameras. The limits and problems of push-broom or whisky broom sensor models can be compensated by combined triangulation with frame imagery and vise versa. The reconstructed object space from multi-sensor triangulation is more accurate than that from a single model. Experiments conducted in this study show the more accurately reconstructed object space from multi-sensor triangulation.
This study aims to improve the dynamic stiffness of an inspection robot frame to prevent derailment from transmission lines. Finite element models for the transmission lines and robot frame are developed for the multi-body dynamic simulation. Natural frequency analysis was conducted using the FE models. Three types of spacer damper clamps installed on 4-conductor transmission lines are used to evaluate the derailment of the robot. Multi-body dynamic simulations with FE models are demonstrated for sub-span oscillation. When the robot operates, derailment of inspection robot from the transmission lines is determined because of resonance. To prevent the resonance, body position was changed and thickness optimization was conducted. The results show that derailment was not occurred because of the natural frequency improvement.

Face classification has wide applications in security and surveillance. However, this technique presents various challenges caused by pose, illumination, and expression changes. Face recognition with long-distance images involves additional challenges, owing to focusing problems and motion blurring. Multiple frames under varying spatial or temporal settings can acquire additional information, which can be used to achieve improved classification performance. This study investigates the effectiveness of multi-frame decision-level fusion with photon-counting linear discriminant analysis. Multiple frames generate multiple scores for each class. The fusion process comprises three stages: score normalization, score validation, and score combination. Candidate scores are selected during the score validation process, after the scores are normalized. The score validation process removes bad scores that can degrade the final output. The selected candidate scores are combined using one of the following fusion rules: maximum, averaging, and majority voting. Degraded facial images are employed to demonstrate the robustness of multi-frame decision-level fusion in harsh environments. Out-of-focus and motion blurring point-spread functions are applied to the test images, to simulate long-distance acquisition. Experimental results with three facial data sets indicate the efficiency of the proposed decision-level fusion scheme.
In this study, the effectiveness of a multi-action hybrid damper (MHD) composed of lead rubber bearing (LRB) and friction pad was verified in terms of seismic performance improvement of a frame structure. The LRB and the friction elements are connected in series, so the LRB governs the intial small deformation and the friction determines large deformation behavior. Cyclic loading tests were conducted by using a half scale steel frame structure with the MHD, and the results indicated that the structure became to have the stable trilinear hysteresis with large initial stiffness and first yielding due to the LRB, and the second yielding due to the friction. The MHD could significantly increase the energy dissipation capacity of the structure and the hysteresis curves obtained by tests were almost identical to the analytically estimated ones.
The purpose of this article is to depict the relationship between the frames of leadership and the dependent variables such as job satisfaction, respect from subordinates, promotion, and effective attainment of unit objectives. To attain this purpose, for types of multiple leadership frames, such as structural, human resources, political, and symbolic frames were surveyed through questionnaire and analyzed by SPSS. The major findings are : 1) In general, the symbolic frame is an important factor having a stronger influence on job satisfaction, respect from subordinates, promotion, and effective attainment of unit objectives. 2) In details, the human resources frame shows a positive effects on job satisfaction and respect; the structural frame on effective attainment of unit objectives; the political frame, to a certain degree, on promotion; and the symbolic frame, especially on respect from subordinates, promotion, and effective attainment of unit objectives.
