  • This study is to predict the spatial expansion of urban areas by applying CA(Cellular Automata)-Markov technique considering MCE(multi-criteria evaluation) and MOLA(multi-objective land allocation) of factor analysis. For the 10 administration districts$(3677.3km^2)$ including the whole Anseong-cheon watershed, the past six temporal land use data(1973, 1981, 1985, 1990, 1994, 2000) from Landsat satellite images were prepared. During this period, the urban area increased $233.71km^2$. Using the 36 indices composed of topological characteristics, population and land use change, the final factor map of MOLA was produced through 5 maps of MCE. Using 1990 and 1994 land use data, the 2000 predicted urban area of CA-Markov with factor map showed 0.06% improvement of absolute error comparing with that of CA-Markov without factor map. By the CA-Markov technique considering factor map, the 2030 and 2060 urban area increased $58.94km^2(0.78%)\;and\;60.14km^2(0.81%)$ respectively comparing with 2000 urban area$(313.19km^2)$. The 2030 and 2060 paddy area decreased $93.28km^2(2.54%)\;and\;93.65km^2(2.55%)$ respectively comparing with 2000 paddy area$(1383.23km^2)$.

  • Determining sizes and the locations of reservoirs in the water distribution system(WDS) with multi-reservoirs is much difficult than that with single reservoir. The extended period simulation(EPS) models provide more comprehensive analysis of water distribution systems than the steady-state models can do. Therefore, EPS models should be applied to the WDS with multi-reservoirs. This study is to investigate the variations of required reservoir sizes and residual nodal pressures according to reservoir locations. In this study, EPS was applied to analyze an artificial and a real WDS under several water demand patterns. As a result, it was found that water demand patterns make no significant differences in the determining of the reservoir size, if they have similar peaking factors. And the variations of the peaking factor should be carefully checked in the design and the analysis of the WDS with multi-reservoirs, because the peaking factor itself will affect the minimum allowable sizes of reservoirs in those systems.

  • This paper investigates the ground vibration induced by high-speed trains moving on multi-span continuous bridges. The dynamic impact factor of multi-span continuous bridges under trainloads was first determined in the parametric study, which shows that the dynamic impact factor will be large when the first bridge vertical natural frequency is equal to the trainload dominant frequencies, nV/D, where n is a positive integer, V is the train speed, and D is the train carriage interval. In addition, more continuous spans will produce smaller dynamic impact factors at this resonance condition. Based on the results of three-dimensional finite element analyses using the soil-structure interaction for realistic high-speed railway bridges, we suggest that the bridge span be set at 1.4 to 1.5 times the carriage interval for simply supported bridges. If not, the use of four or more-than-four-span continuous bridges is suggested to reduce the train-induced vibration. This study also indicates that the vibration in the train is major generated from the rail irregularities and that from the bridge deformation is not dominant.

  • Although the large supply of multi-family housings played a very important role in forming the urban structure and allocation of functions, and also enhanced the whole level of housing environment, it caused several problems relating to physical form such as isolation of housing estate, inhumanity of the exterior space, and mismatch with the urban structure. To handle these problems, the purpose of this study is to analyse design elements which have a direct impact on physical forms, thereby understand the characteristics of planning. Therefore design elements are reformed into respective analyzing indices. This study analyzes design elements based on analysing indices. Thus, several important results were found from the Factor Analysis and after classifying housing estates into several types, the study found the characteristics of planning within each type of housing estates.

  • This paper numerically investigates the effects of pass arrangement on the flow distribution characteristics and the performance of a multi-pass multi-branch heat exchanger. Four cases of pass arrangement (2, 4, 6, 8 pass) are chosen to select a proper pass arrangement. A JF factor is used as an evaluation characteristic value to consider the heat transfer and the pressure drop. The present results indicate that 4-pass heat exchanger shows the best performance, and the design parameters in 4-pass heat exchanger are optimized. The design parameters are the locations of the inlet, outlet and separator, and are optimized using a response surface methodology. The JF factor of the optimum model is increased by about 9.3%, compared to that of the reference model (2-pass heat exchanger).

  • The objective data and subjective data correlated in order to rate sound quality of loudspeaker system and these data were analyzed by the Factor Analysis and Multi-Dimensioinal Scaling. The dimensions yielded Factor Analysis were interpreted as "Contrast", "Metallic", "Rich", "Present" and their relation to physical variables were explored by studying the positions of loudspeaker systems in the respective dimension. When the subjective similarity degree of loudspeaker systems was compared with the objective similarity degree of loudspeaker systems by Multi-Dimensional Scaling, the similarity degree of sound pressure response in the listening room closely coincided with the subjective similarity degree regardless of sound source. This result implies the necessity of measurements taken not only in an anechoic room but also in a listening room in order to rate sound quality of loudspeaker systems.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out factors affecting patient moving to receive medical service. This study is analyzed by multi-level model with patient and hospital level by using SAS 9.3. Total number of patients is 600,000 persons for inpatients and 550,000 patients for outpatients. The degree of the factors, which is combined with personnel factor and hospital factor, can be analyzed by Intra-Class Correlation (ICC). The percentage of group(hospital) level variance of the total variance for out-bound moving case are 30.6% at inpatients, and 28.3% at outpatients. And the percentage of hospital level variance of the total variance for moving distance, are 26.7%, 32,5% respectively. Conclusionally, although the main factor of moving is patient level, hospital is also very important factor to make decision to go out-bound. It contributed to about 1/3 for hospital choice. And, when the one make decision, he will consider the hospital type, number of bed, and training institute in hospital level. Through this study to find out hospital factors affecting patient moving for medical service, it must be continued to find out which factors have more influence to choice the hospital among disease type after this.
