The next generation cellular wireless communication systems require high data rate transmissions and large system capacities. In order to meet these requirements, multiple antennas can be used at the base and mobile stations, forming MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output) channels. This paper proposes a MIMO SDMA(Space Division Multiple Access) technique with dynamic slot allocation which allows the transmitter to efficiently transmit parallel data streams to each of multiple receivers. The proposed technique can increase system capacities significantly by transmitting a larger number of data streams than conventional MIMO techniques while minimizing the performance degradation due to the beamforming dimension reduction.
Cooperative diversity protocols have attracted a great deal of attention since they are thought to be capable of providing diversity multiplexing tradeoff among single antenna wireless devices. In the high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) region, cooperation is rarely required; hence, the spectral efficiency of the cooperative protocol can be improved by applying a proper cooperation selection technique. In this paper, we present a simple "cooperation selection" technique based on instantaneous channel measurement to improve the spectral efficiency of cooperative protocols. We show that the same instantaneous channel measurement can also be used for relay selection. In this paper two protocols are proposed-proactive and reactive; the selection of one of these protocols depends on whether the decision of cooperation selection is made before or after the transmission of the source. These protocols can successfully select cooperation along with the best relay from a set of available M relays. If the instantaneous source-to-destination channel is strong enough to support the system requirements, then the source simply transmits to the destination as a noncooperative direct transmission; otherwise, a cooperative transmission with the help of the selected best relay is chosen by the system. Analysis and simulation results show that these protocols can achieve higher order diversity with improved spectral efficiency, i.e., a higher diversity-multiplexing tradeoff in a slow-fading environment.

In non-selective frequency environment, it is difficult to take the advantage of path diversity. In the literature, some methods have been proposed to solve the issue. This paper presents a new method to obtain the resolvable path in Indoor Multi-carrier Code Division Multiple Access (MC-CDMA) system by using downlink beam forming. With the aid of downlink beamforming, the most reliable path is found and chosen for the communication link. The new approach is evaluated in term of bit error rate (BER) and power consumption. The simulation results show that the new approach can get better BER performance. However, the cost of BER improvement is a small degradation in power reservation.

For wireless communication systems of (and beyond) LTE-Advanced, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) with an increased number of antennas will be utilized for system throughput improvement. When using such an increased number of antenna, an excessive amount of overhead in channel state information (CSI) feedback can be a serious problem. In this paper, we propose methods which reduce the CSI feedback overhead, particularly including application strategies for multi-rank transmission targeted for two or more reception antennas. To reduce the information which is instantaneously transmitted from the reception node to the transmission node, we present a beamforming method utilizing singular value decomposition (SVD) based on channel estimation of partitioned antenna arrays. Since the SVDs for partial matrices of the channel may lose the characteristics of the original unpartitioned matrix, we explain an appropriate scheme to cope with this problem.

In this paper, we propose a novel global navigation satellite system (GNSS) spoofing detection technique through an array antenna-based direction of arrival (DoA) estimation of satellite and spoofer. Specifically, we consider a sophisticated GNSS spoofing attack scenario where the spoofer can accurately mimic the multiple pseudo-random number (PRN) signals since the spoofer has its own GNSS receiver and knows the location of the target receiver in advance. The target GNSS receiver precisely estimates the DoA of all PRN signals using compressed sensing-based orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) even with a small number of samples, and it performs spoofing detection from the DoA estimation results of all PRN signals. In addition, considering the initial situation of a sophisticated spoofing attack scenario, we designed the algorithm to have high spoofing detection performance regardless of the relative spoofing signal power. Therefore, we do not consider the assumption in which the power of the spoofing signal is about 3 dB greater than that of the authentic signal. Then, we introduce design parameters to get high true detection probability and low false alarm probability in tandem by considering the condition for the presence of signal sources and the proximity of the DoA between authentic signals. Through computer simulations, we compare the DoA estimation performance between the conventional signal direction estimation method and the OMP algorithm in few samples. Finally, we show in the sophisticated spoofing attack scenario that the proposed spoofing detection technique using OMP-based estimated DoA of all PRN signals outperforms the conventional spoofing detection scheme in terms of true detection and false alarm probability.

In this paper, we consider 19 cells with the two tiers for polar-rectangular coordinates (PRCs) and provide the cell edge performance of cellular networks based on distance from cell center i.e., BS (base station). When FFR is applied(or adopted) to cell edge, it is expected that BS cooperation, or a coordinated multipoint (CoMP) multiple access strategy will further improve the system performance. We proposed a new method to evaluate the sum rate capacity of the MIMO DC of multicell system. We improve the performance of cell edge users for intercell interference cancelation in cooperative downlink multicell systems. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the reference schemes, in terms of cell edge SINR (signal-to-interference-noise ratio) with a minimal impact on the network path loss exponent. We show 13 dB improvements in cell-edge SINR by using reuse of three relative to reuse of one. BS cooperation has been proposed to mitigate the cell edge effect.

In this paper, we consider multiuser multi-input/multi-output antenna systems with zero-forcing receivers in downlink. In this case, to exploit multiuser diversity, spatial-division multiple access (SDMA) system allows to assign different users to a part of transmit antennas at the base station whereas spatial-division multiplexing (SDM) system assigns all antennas to single user's data stream. In this paper, we present analytical frameworks to evaluate performance of these systems. We first analyze the performance of these two systems by deriving closed-form expressions of achievable throughput. Numerical results show that the derived expressions are very tight. In addition, we approximate the capacity expression of SDM and SDMA systems and compare the SDM with the optimal case.

A high speed data link capability is one of the critical factors in determining the performance of the spaceborne SAR system with high resolution because of the strict requirement for the real-time data transmission of the massive SAR data in a limited time of mission. In this paper, based on the data link model characterized by the spaceborne small SAR system, the high rate multi-channel data link module is designed including link storage, link processor, transmitter, and wide-angle antenna. The design results are presented with the performance analysis on the data link budget as well as the multi-mode data rate in association with the SAR imaging mode of operation from high resolution to the wide swath. The designed data link module can be effectively used for the spaceborne and airborne applications which requires to expand the high speed data link capability.

We propose an optimal number of transmit antennas which maximizes energy-efficiency (EE) in multi-user massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) downlink system with the maximal ratio transmission (MRT) precoding. With full channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT), we find a closed form solution by partial differential function with proper approximations using average channel gain, independence of individual channels, and average path loss. With limited feedback, we get a solution numerically by the bisection with approximations in the same manner, and analyze an effect of feedback bits on the optimal number of transmit antennas. Simulation results show that the optimal numbers of transmit antenna getting from proposed closed form solution and exhaustive search are nearly same.

Coordinated multi-point (CoMP) transmission has been regarded as a potential technology for LTE-Advanced. In frequency division duplexing systems, channel quantization is applied for reporting channel state information (CSI). Considering the dynamic number of cooperation base stations (BSs), asymmetry feature of CoMP channels and high searching complexity, simply increasing the size of the codebook used in traditional multiple antenna systems to quantize the global CSI of CoMP systems directly is infeasible. Per-cell codebook based channel quantization to quantize local CSI for each BS separately is an effective method. In this paper, the theoretical upper bounds of system throughput are derived for two codeword selection schemes, independent codeword selection (ICS) and joint codeword selection (JCS), respectively. The feedback overhead and selection complexity of these two schemes are analyzed. In the simulation, the system throughput of ICS and JCS is compared. Both analysis and simulation results show that JCS has a better tradeoff between system throughput and feedback overhead. The ICS has obvious advantage in complexity, but it needs additional phase information (PI) feedback for obtaining the approximate system throughput with JCS. Under the same number of feedback bits constraint, allocating the number of bits for channel direction information (CDI) and PI quantization can increase the system throughput, but ICS is still inferior to JCS. Based on theoretical analysis and simulation results, some recommendations are given with regard to the application of each scheme respectively.
