  • This paper discusses computer system performance evaluation and analysis by employing a simulator which able to execute a symmetric multiprocessor in machine simulation environment. We also perform a multiprocessor system analysis using SPLASH-2, which is a suite of multi-program benchmarks for multiprocessors, to perform the behavior study of the symmetric multiprocessor OS kernel, IRIX5.3. To validate the scalability of symmetric multiprocessor system, we demonstrate structure and evaluation methods for symmetric multiprocessor as well as a functionality-based software simulator, SimOS. In this paper, we examine cache miss count and stall time on the symmetric multiprocessor between the local instruction and local data, using the multi-program benchmarks such as RADIX sorting algorithm and Cholesky factorization.

  • In this paper, we implement monitoring system for grain sorting using a high-speed FPGA and embedded LINUX. The proposed system is designed by base on web server and web-based applications while existing system was designed by base on stand-alone mode. The interface the Web server with high speed hardware of FPGA is designed on the implemented monitoring system. The proposed system has the advantages of multi-tasking on Linux web server and real-time high speed on FPGA also. The control logic of a high speed rate line-scan CCD camera, the method of center of gravity, HSL decoding and the interface on the Web server are implemented in FPGA. The implemented monitoring system has the advantage of being able to control the grain monitoring, system failure and recovery remotely by web application. As a result, we can upgrade the performance of sorting quality compared by existing system.

  • This Paper Proposes a new optimization algorithm named by GBNSGA-II(Goal-pareto Based Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm-II) which uses Goal Programming to find non-dominated solutions in NSGA-II. Although the conventional NSGA is very popular to solve multiobjective optimization problem, its high computational complexity, lack of elitism and difficulty of selecting sharing parameter have been considered as problems to be overcome. To overcome these problems, NSGA-II has been introduced as the alternative for multiobjective optimization algorithm preventing aforementioned defects arising in the conventional NSGA. Together with advantageous features of NSGA-II, this paper proposes rather effective optimization algorithm formulated by purposely combining NSGA-II algorithm with GP (Goal Programming) subject to satisfying multiple objectives as possible as it can. By conducting computer simulations, the superiority of the proposed GBNSGA-II algorithm will be verified in the aspects of the effectiveness on optimization process in presence of a priori constrained goals and its fast converging capability.

  • As a basic research for the development of the automatic grading and sorting system for dried oak mushrooms, the device to acquire both cap and gill side images of mushroom has been developed and neural network based side recognition and quality grading has been proposed via inputting both side images. 20 quality grades have been selected considering the requirement of grade classifications imposed by the mushroom company. Developed DC motor driven‘V’type reversing device for the image acquisition of both side images of mushroom showed more than 95% success. Most error was caused by very small size mushrooms with a radius of around 1cm. However, it required a further research to reduce the reversing time. Grading and side recognition were performed via inputting normalized size factors and average gray levels of $8{\times}8$ grids converted from the raw images of both surfaces to the multi-layer back propagation(BP) network. Accuracy of the grading showed about 88.5% and the total grading time including reversing operation was around 2 seconds.

  • Identification of the nonlinear hysteretic behavior of a reinforced concrete (RC) bridge pier subjected to earthquake loads is carried out based on acceleration measurements of the earthquake motion and bridge responses. The modified Takeda model is used to describe the hysteretic behavior of the RC pier with a small number of parameters, in which the nonlinear behavior is described in logical forms rather than analytical expressions. Hence, the modified extended Kalman filter is employed to construct the state transition matrix using a finite difference scheme. The sequential modified extended Kalman filter algorithm is proposed to identify the unknown parameters and the state vector separately in two steps, so that the size of the problem for each identification procedure may be reduced and possible numerical problems may be avoided. Mode superposition with a modal sorting technique is also proposed to reduce the size of the identification problem for the nonlinear dynamic system with multi-degrees of freedom. Example analysis is carried out for a continuous bridge with a RC pier subjected to earthquake loads in the longitudinal and transverse directions.

  • An integrated on-line inspection system was constructed with seven cameras, half mirrors to split images. 720 nm and 970 nm band pass filters, illumination chamber having several tungsten-halogen lamps, one main computer, one color frame grabber, two 4-channel multiplexors, and flat plate conveyer, etc. A total of seven images, that is, one color image form the top of an apple and two B/W images from each side (top, right and left) could be captured and displayed on a computer monitor through the multiplexor. One of the two B/W images captured from each side is 720nm filtered image and the other is 970 nm. With this system an on-line grading software was developed to evaluate appearance quality. On-line test results with Fuji apples that were manually fed on the conveyer showed that grading accuracies of the color, defect and shape were 95.3%, 86% and 88.6%, respectively. Grading time was 0.35 second per apple on an average. Therefore, this on-line grading system could be used for inspection of the final products produced from an apple sorting system.

  • In this paper, we propose a new sorting algorithm for ATM switch with a shared buffer which has a sequencer architecture with single queue. The proposed switch performs a sorting procedure of ATM cell based on the output port number of ATM cell with hardware implementation. The proposed architecture has a single buffer physically but logically it has function of multi-queue which is designed at most to control the conflicts in output port. In the future, this architecture will take various applications for routing switch and has flexibility for the extension of system structure. therefore, this structure is expected on good structure in effective transmission.

  • Minimizing construction cost and reducing seismic damage are two conflicting objectives in the design of any new structure. In the present work, we try to develop a framework in order to solve the optimum performance-based design problem considering the construction cost and the seismic damage of steel moment-frame structures. The Park-Ang damage index is selected as the seismic damage measure because it is one of the most realistic measures of structural damage. The non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) is employed as the optimization algorithm to search the Pareto optimal solutions. To improve the time efficiency of the proposed framework, three simplifying strategies are adopted: first, simplified nonlinear modeling investigating minimum level of structural modeling sophistication; second, fitness approximation decreasing the number of fitness function evaluations; third, wavelet decomposition of earthquake record decreasing the number of acceleration points involved in time-history loading. The constraints of the optimization problem are considered in accordance with Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) recommended seismic design specifications. The results from numerical application of the proposed framework demonstrate the efficiency of the framework in solving the present multi-objective optimization problem.

  • An approach to construct multiple interpretable and precise fuzzy systems based on the Pareto Multi-objective Cooperative Coevolutionary Algorithm (PMOCCA) is proposed in this paper. First, a modified fuzzy clustering algorithm is used to construct antecedents of fuzzy system, and consequents are identified separately to reduce computational burden. Then, the PMOCCA and the interpretability-driven simplification techniques are executed to optimize the initial fuzzy system with three objectives: the precision performance, the number of fuzzy rules and the number of fuzzy sets; thus both the precision and the interpretability of the fuzzy systems are improved. In order to select the best individuals from each species, we generalize the NSGA-II algorithm from one species to multi-species, and propose a new non-dominated sorting technique and collaboration mechanism for cooperative coevolutionary algorithm. Finally, the proposed approach is applied to two benchmark problems, and the results show its validity.
