The experimental study on the NOx formation of fuel staged combustor (연료다단 연소기의 NOx 발생특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • The characteristics of NOx emission in multi fuel/air staged combustor have been experimentally studied. The design concept of multi fuel/air staged combustor is creation of two separate flame, a primary flame is act as a pilot Dame for the secondary combustion stage combustion zone, where most of fuel bums. Experiments were performed on a semi-industrial scale (thermal input 0.233 MW) in a laboratory furnace and Liquefied Petroleum Gas(LPG) was used as primary and secondary fuels. The study included parametric study to identify the optimum operating conditions which are primary/secondary fuel ratio, primary/secondary air ratio, primary swirl intensity and secondary swirl intensity for reducing NOx emission. The test demonstrated that NOx emission can be reduced by ${>}$70% in accordance with operating conditions.

Reduced Quasi-Dimensional Combustion Model of the Direct Injection Diesel Engine for Performance and Emissions Predictions

  • A new concept of reduced quasi-dimensional combustion model for a direct injection diesel engine is developed based on the previously developed quasi-dimensional multi-zone model to improve the computational efficiency. In the reduced model, spray penetration and air entrainment are calculated for a number of zones within the spray while three zones with aggregated spray zone concept are used for the calculation of spray combustion and emission formation processes. It is also assumed that liquid phase fuel appears only near the nozzle exit during the breakup period and that spray vaporization is immediate in order to reduce the computational time. Validation of the reduced model with experimental data demonstrated that the new model can predict engine performance and NO and soot emissions reasonably well compared to the original model. With the new concept of reduced model, computational efficiency is significantly improved as much as 200 times compared to the original model.

A Study on the Characteristic of Fracture Toughness in the Multi-Pass Welding Zone for Nuclear Piping (원전 배관재 다층 용접부의 파괴 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The objective of this paper is to evaluate the fracture resistance characteristics of SA508 Cl.1a to SA508 Cl.3 welds manufactured for the reactor coolant loop piping system of nuclear power plants. The effect of the crack plane orientation to the welding process orientation and the preheat temperature on the fracture resistance characteristics were discussed. Results of the fracture resistance test showed that the effect of the crack plane orientation to the welding process orientation of the fracture toughness is significant, while that of preheat temperature on the fracture toughness is negligible. The micro Vickers hardness test, the metallographic observation and the fractography analysis were conducted to analyse the crack jump phenomenon on the L-R crack plane orientation in the multi-pass welding zone. As these results, it is shown that the crack jump phenomenon was produced because of the inhomogeneity between welding beads and the crack plane orientation must be considered for the safety of the welding zone in the piping system.

Study on the Multi-Zone Furnace Analysis Method for Power Plant Boiler (발전용 보일러에 대한 다중영역분할 화로해석 기법의 활용성 연구)

  • In this study, a multi-zone furnace analysis method that couples a 1D energy and mass balance calculation with a 3D radiative heat transfer calculation is tested in order to verify its reliability. The calculated results for a domestic 500 MW capacity coal-fired boiler furnace were compared with the design data of the boiler manufacturer and CFD analysis, and a good agreement was achieved. Although this calculation method is less sophisticated than the CFD furnace analysis, it has an advantage in terms of calculation time while being able to provide the furnace behavior according to the fuel characteristics and operational variable changes. Therefore, it is expected to be useful for boiler operation diagnosis and daily fuel/operation planning.

  • Tandem AGV system is obtained by partitioning all workstations into multiple zones assigning a single vehicle to each zone. In this paper, we propose an analytical model to design a tandem AGV system with multi-load AGVs. Using simulation, the performance of the proposed model is shown by comparing a conventional multi-load AGV system.

  • The technology using ARM TrustZone draws attention as a new embedded virtualization approach. The ARM TrustZone defines two virtual execution environment, the secure world and the normal world. In such an environment, the inter-world communication is important to extend function of software. However, the current monitor software does not sufficiently support the inter-world communication. This paper presents a new inter guestOS communication scheme, for each world, for the ARM TrustZone virtualization. The proposed communication scheme supports bidirectional inter-world communication for single core and multicore environment. In this paper, It is implemented on a NVIDIA Tegra3 processor based on the ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore and it showed a bandwidth of 30MB/s.

  • The current paper proposes a boundary element formulation, applicable to 2-D and 3-D elastostatics problems using a unified approach for transformations of the domain integrals into boundary integrals. The method is applicable to linear problems encompassing both finite and infinite multi-region domains allowing non-vanishing body forces. Numerical results agree quite well with the analytical solutions; while the present method offers easy formulation with less numerical efforts in comparison to FEM or some BEM which need interior points to treat arbitrary body forces. It is demonstrated that the method has the potential to have profound impact on engineering design, notably in dam-foundation interaction.

  • The finite element analysis by the computer program SYSWELD in consideration of phase transformation was carried out to simulate the multi-pass welding process of SA106 Gr. C which is used for the main steam pipe in nuclear power plant. All the numerical results such as temperatures, the size of heat affected zone and the residual stresses were compared to the experimental results.

Compressor Control of a Multi-type AIr Conditioning System (멀티형 냉방시스템의 압축기 제어)

  • For the compressor speed control of a multi-type air conditioning system, a fuzzy control algorithm was developed. The sum of zone temperature errors and its derivative were used as input variables, and the compressor speed was selected as the output variable. To test the effectiveness of the control algorithm, one outdoor environmental chamber and four indoor environmental chambers were used. In the chambers the zone temperature step change test and the indoor unit change over test were performed. Test results showed that, for the control of compressor speed, the fuzzy control algorithm was more effective than the conventional proportional control algorithm for the energy conservation.

  • In this paper, we propose a resource allocation scheme that guarantees transmission rate for each mobile stations by mitigating interference between a base station-to-mobile station link and a relay station-to-mobile station link. Specifically, we dynamically adjust the boundary between access zone and relay zone using signal to interference plus noise ratio. Moreover, we cluster the mobile stations under sever interference and manage the channel quality of these mobile stations by allocating additional radio resource. Our simulation results show that the proposed scheme can improve the efficiency of radio resources and ensure fairness among mobile stations.
